Basically, RAID-4 with no striping, sometimes called MAID. I like the concepts; low power instead of increased speed, simpler recovery, even losing two disks doesn't lose all your data.
I've never used it though. I wish it was part of md, so I could
use it on a standard distro.
Once a buddy and I had to get up early and do something after a night out.
He was hurting and I was mysteriously pain free.
I laughed at him because he usually handled his alcohol
and the morning after better than me.
If IMAP isn't available for your email: Thunderbird allows you to "leave the (POP) messages on the server", "don't delete (from server) until moved from inbox", and "fetch headers only" from server.
BTW, IIRC, it's pretty important to get these settings set before you open your inbox the first time.
Never had a tivo, I refuse to pay the outrageous monthly fee.
Then don't pay it, I never did. Some friends just got a Series2 for about $40 after rebates. The lifetime subscription is $300 now, I think.
How much did you pay for your mythtv box? How much time did you put into setting it up? How much time do you put into maintaining it? Can non-geeks use it successfully? How loud is it in the living room? Does it look good in the stereo cabinet?
Tivo is the iPod of PVRs. It just works and does it so well.
We have a Tivo that works great. The HD DVR from Cablevision is crap and expensive. (It's been called "paying to be in their beta test".) And we can't get satellite.
As a result, we mostly watch SD Tivo, except for the occasional football or baseball game.
The convenience is more important than the picture quality for most TV shows.
There's a discussion here.
I like the basic concept, RAID-4 without striping, but I'm not rushing to buy their package. I'd like to see an open source driver that does that though.
So let's see them open up the Windows Media Connect and/or Windows Media Center protocols so we don't need a Windows box to serve video to these.
The Xbox360 will be a polished media front end. If I could serve it from my Linux server, I'd be on the waiting list. As it is, I'll wait until someone makes a mod-chip.
Serenity was cancelled because it was slyly political, Robin Hood and the Sheriff of Nottingham style. The shocker is that it managed to get aired at all, on Fox TV, which is basically a mouthpiece for the Sheriff.
Never assume conspiracy when stupidity is one of the possible answers.
It's good to see the nano hold up to so much abuse. The pictures I'd seen made it look so delicate.
But one test I'd like to see involves trying to damage it by flexing it. Sitting on a nano laid on a wooden chair or even running over it is different from putting it in a tight pants pocket and sitting on a hard surface.
Right now, some people see some movies in the theater (even multiple times!) and buy the DVD later. No one will do this if the movie is released on DVD at the same time.
Releasing simultaneously won't bring in more money, it will bring in less. Movie theaters will become as rare as drive-ins if they do this.
I've never used it though. I wish it was part of md, so I could use it on a standard distro.

There's a long thread about this over on AVSForum.com. LB
This was true even when the cars did less for you.

Then my hangover hit in the afternoon...

Christ, I work for a major telecom company where they make software developers use 900 MHz PIII laptops.
just on the cost :(

Doesn't flash write a lot slower than an HDD?
It takes so long for my cable box to change channels.

Bell Labs is part of Lucent, not AT&T. The article is about the demise of a Lucent department.
for a shop that didn't have anything in it?
The elderly loose motor skills along with strength. Augment them and you'll have a bunch of people blundering around breaking things...
