What a great society we Americans have these days. I can watch what is basically Crime Scene Porn on the major networks any night of the week I want, see countless murders happen on TV, and basically dismember characters in pretty much any video game I want to, watch more than simulated sex acts on cable, and listen to some pretty graphic swearing on television.
But God help us if little Bobbie might have seen a blur on some "sim" in the tub. We already know if s/he wants to see anything of the sort, their hitting all the free super link porno sites anyway.
What is behind this outcry is the fact that most kids have these games and parents are finding that "Gee, I must be a lousy parent because I didn't know that my kids could do this and frankly didn't care because the distraction kept my kids quiet. I'll pretend to be horrified at this so that other people don't think I'm a bad parent, while I really couldn't care less."
Let's put it this way. My son saw more graphic sex in the gorilla house on a recent visit to the zoo than is possible in these games. Quick, let's make the zoo "AO" and fine the zookeepers for not having warnings that the critters might get jiggy.
Can't wait for the next "important social issue" to come up. It's going to be the horrors of chunky peanut butter or some such tripe.
JKR and Lucas decided to do a crossover?! Imagine little dorks with black hair, round lens glasses and fake trauma on the forehead waving lightsabers around with wooden handles!
"I felt a great disturbance in the force. Like a thousand fanboys have cried out in joy and have left their parents basements! Bugger!"
First thing I thought about when I saw this Conservation item was to "take showers with your significant other." My wife and I do most every morning, and on the weekdays, we do save time.
FCC will also shut you down if someone in the area complains about the content of the broadcast. I don't think much can be done about the type of music or content, but you best be using edited songs. I know of at least two instances of this happenning in the past three years within a about 100 miles of here.
At the community college that I work at, we have a am/fm tuner connected to the PBX for the on-hold music tuned to the local PBS station. Classical music during the day and NPR news on the hour as well as the news shows. (ATC, etc)
I take it you work in technology? Then there is an easy way to prove you need a pocket knife for you job. I am constantly using my pocket knife to open boxes with parts, shrink wrapped software, and new computers. I also use my pocket knife to cut zip tie bundles and the like.
Not being allowed to carry a pocket knife? In AU? Don't you need one to keep off all the crocs?;)
I notice that gun nut / 2nd amendment users are always screwing off looking gun websites when not wasting time talking about guns. Normal non-gun nut people don't usually waste time looking at anti gun websites. So there.
If your site is anything like the site I admin, I agree. The gun nuts look at NRA/gun related sites and the "normal non-gun nut" people surf porn.
I thought the same way as the post author, and was quite suprised when I cracked open the PIX 515 that we picked up to see a Pentium 200 processor and normal PCI cards for network interfaces.
Not to mention that the firewall software running the device is totally flaky crap unless updated with every patch, which then goes and breaks something else.
And another thing. Typed letters or handwritten letters -- they are both just as expressive. Who cares what it looks like? That's just being superficial. Typed letters are EVERY BIT as expressive as E-mail, and anyone who thinks otherwise is obviously inconsiderate.
Hardly. A neatly handwritten letter takes more time and effort into creating than a typed, block formated letter. And even bulk mail advertisers know it. I quite often recieve bulk mail that is printed in a script font, attempting to make it look more personal than a normal typed solisitation. Someone who doesn't notice that the writer would go to all that trouble is obviously inconsiderate. Just as a SO which they think is more thoughtful and "romantic" and the response will be a handwritten letter.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I remember when "V" first aired, they broadcast it so that you could use the blue/red "3d" glasses and get some sort of 3D effect from the show.
Would be very cool if they plan on doing something along the same lines this time.
Sure it is. It's part of a cultural history that is being lost. Much as we have Ebooks or Audio Books, there is nothing quite like sitting down with a good hardcover book. The same could be said for emails and a nice handwritten letter. Which says "I care" more?
Very good FAQ, if you are a chinese national communist.
Well, I figured that since the parent post said China had never attacked a western power, what better resource to use to prove that as false than something from the Chinese perspective.
Many of the UN and US prospectives on the Korean War say much the same things, but as directed to the Chinese. History is usually dictated by the "winner" of a conflict, but as the Korean War has no "winner" because techincally the War never ended but instead has been under a Cease Fire.
But, that was Korea, not China! Otherwise it would be the Chinese War. *sigh*
It's amazing what people don't know about history isn't it. If the person that posted the parent to this thread wants to actually learn something about the Korean War and China's involvment in attacking a Western Power, this is a very good FAQ on the subject.
During shooting of Lord of the Rings, yes. But it also says that he broke his back when he was younger, before the movie. That is what the poster is refering to, I believe.
has a link to a Real Media sound file that has "Mind the gap" in a male voice. I've not been able to find a recording of the female voice that they used to use.
It's the paper trail for payment that would more for concern.

On the weekends however......
I remember hearing this on NPR also, almost a month ago
Your link goes to a story piece from the morning of Febuary 1st.

You obviously don't drive your car "correctly" then if you haven't the need to replace the engine block. VaROOM!

Since it lacks any moving parts, I would assume that a UPS backup solution would power the device for quite some time until normal power was restored.
If a APC SmartUPS 1400 can power my PE 6400 quad box for 20 minutes, I'm sure it could power this WAP for a day or so.
Just as well, the border guards tried to surrender to him when he landed.
And I thought that the militant French farmers only attacked McDonald's? *chuckle*
Umm ... Didn't they ground the Concorde? Even my dialup is faster than the Concorde now...

Althought it goes great with a side of BBQ Ribs, and it goes great while you're grilling said ribs.
But learning to pour a good half and half or black and tan is a life lesson that should be taught in school.

I touched it, I'm done.. .. huh?
Because once we found out it wasn't made of Blue Cheese, what was the point of going back?
how was it out of place? That was the girl that "kissed" Persephone's husband and left the lip stick, I'd wager.

"... or the entire cast of MASH the TV show being better than the entire cast of MASH the movie."
Except for Gary Burghoff, who played Radar O'Reilly in both the movie and the TV series.
