Potential problem? Most fungi breathe oxygen, and expel carbon dioxide. I don't think this will be all that beneficial if industrialized on a large scale unless this is one of the rare types of fungi that breathes carbon dioxide. We'll solve the problem with renewable energy while exacerbating the greenhouse gas problem. Greenhouse gases will be produced in the production AND consumption of the fuel.

I disagree. As soon as word gets out that this is possible, criminals will find a way of either stealing or duplicating this technology. Then all one has to do is set up a hidden camera near a door and wait for the rightful owner to come and take out their keys and open the door. Then you'd have pictures of the keys to duplicate and you can rob the place at your leisure with minimal effort. With no signs of forced entry, good luck convincing your insurance company that your place was robbed.

Why not just use flashblock for firefox instead of firing up IE? You can enable/disable individual flash objects on the fly with flashblock.

In IE you have to let everything load, which is less secure. If the page is full of flash adverts it'll also consume more CPU cycles.

  17. Re:Mooo on EU Wants Removable Batteries In iPhones · · Score: 1

Who says I'm American? I didn't say I didn't want a removable battery. In fact, I would love to have that option. I'm just commenting on the economical sense of the price of the battery replacement.

I don't approve of Apple's trend of locking all their product features, but I consider the ipod to be a good product, and there wasn't anything really comparable at the time I bought it. I consider it money well spent considering how often I use it daily.

I suspect that the outrageous pricing is partly to discourage battery replacements. The more people getting battery replacements means less people buying newer products.

  18. Re:Mooo on EU Wants Removable Batteries In iPhones · · Score: 3, Interesting

That is quite expensive, but I've had my ipod for 3 years already and the battery is still going strong. I use it for at least 4-5 hours every day. When the battery does die, $85 will buy a much better cheap mp3 player than this old generation ipod. I don't see any point in replacing the battery for a 3+ year old device for that price.

  20. Main disadvantage: What if you forget to charge? on Plug-in Hybrids May Not Go Mainstream, Toyota Says · · Score: 1

One of the main reasons I am wary of 100% electric plug-in vehicles is the consequences of forgetting to charge it. I forget to charge my ipod and cell phone all the time. This construes a minor inconvenience, as I can charge them in the car or at work. But forgetting to charge your car means you will be late for work, or miss it altogether if you live in a rural area and do not have access to public transportation. This is a much more dire consequence.

However, with a hybrid, you have a lot more flexibility, and it's more forgiving to absent-minded people like me. I have plenty of friends and family members that also chronically forget to charge things and I see full electric plug-in vehicles as a potential nightmare for us. What if after work you and your coworkers decide to drive to a faraway bar for an impromptu party? Do you have enough charge in your batteries? No, you're pretty much screwed. With a hybrid, you just fill it up at the next gas station.
