By Plato, I assume you mean Plato's Republic where Socrates declares that the philosopher should rule in enlightened despotism. I am a big fan of the Foundation series. It just seems so American to me. The Foundation had this manifest destiny that carried it in its early days is reminiscent of the early U.S. In Contrast, the last book he wrote was a prequel, Forward the Foundation, that details the fall of the Trantorian galactic empire. This to me is very representative of the U.S. as it is now. My favorite scene is Seldon complaining about something breaking down and how in his day everyone would be outraged, yet now everyone just ignores the problem. Reminds me of Katrina or the Minneapolis bridge collapsing in America recently. The unwillingness to pay taxes to a corrupt government is also similar.

You are assuming the constituents know what they want or are experts in every field. That's not always the case. Most working economists agree that the bailout is a necessary evil. It's the armchair economists in the ivory towers whispering into Shelby's ears that are saying everything will be fine. If a congressman feels that the bailout is a good thing for the US economy, he has to vote his conscious even if it means he loses his seat. If he feels it's a bad thing, then he should vote against it. Either way, he has to vote regardless of the feelings of his constituency. America is not ruled by a mob, but by elected officials held accountable by the voters.

What it does show is that more McCain supporters chose Obama on a few specific key issues then the other way around. The notable exception was international trade in which more Obama supporters chose McCain instead. The conclusion I come away with is that economists feel that Obama is clearly better on Education, Health Care, and Energy while McCain is better on International Trade. Tech Innovation and Wars/Security were a push although for 2 different reasons. More economists said that neither would affect Tech Innovation then any other category (except reducing waste), but the Wars/Security issue split almost exactly along party or supporter lines. The other issues were not as important according to those surveyed.

It horrifies me to think so many people voting think Obama's trillions of dollars of new spending, vast government expansion, 20+ years of attending an anti white/anti US church, clueless foreign policy and zero experience are something to vote for.

Have you heard of a guy named John Maynard Keynes? Government investment in public works and infrastructure, even if it incurs a deficit, can stimulate demand in times of unemployment. You know like now. Government spending led to some of the best economic times after WW2. Eisenhower's investment in the highway system and JFK's investment in the space program are two prominent examples. We need to increase government investments into infrastructure like bridges. Remember the bridge in Minneapolis collapsing? That is the direct result of too small a government. The idea of lower taxes and smaller government was a great idea in 1982, but it won't necessarily fix today's economic problems.

My wife is a kindergarten/first grade teacher and she likes to use a technique to help some of her struggling kids. They are given a bit of PVC pipe shaped like a phone that allows them to hear themselves sound out words. For some reason, this helps many struggling kids to connect what the word sounds like and what the word looks like. Is your device similar to this technique?

Also, for kids with a teacher, does your "talking book" device give them any added value? Is it just to replace a teacher and if not can it also be used to supplement a teacher's lesson?

It doesn't matter if he intended to harm the victim or not. If damage was caused, he should pay the plaintiff for his trouble.
