    You know this isnt' a bad idea, I've lived in NYC, and La, Southern california has an extrodinary amount of traffic. Now most of the time you look in traffic 80% of it is single passnger. Now back east they generate a ton of revinue based on Tolls. The way I see it this is a better way to tax the traffic. If anyone has ever sat in the valley say around sunset and seen the smog trust me it's worth it.

    a.) Any underground excavation requires you call the 1-800-DIG-ALERT number. If you've ever look on any set of Civil drawings you woudl know that.

    b.) Now you are right, there are maps, and yes some are out of date. However very few are, and when there is doubt a simple Sonar, or EMR scan is done to locate any pipes.

    The problem is the company Verizon is using for thier excavation is doing it ass backwords.

    This all seems very nice and all, however are there companies out there that offer voip with the services you typically get with a land line. example being caller id call waiting, 911, 411 and any operator service ? This is a genuine question as I am looking into this in the long run for the company I work with.

    I still have my old over clocked p300a running at 512mgh, with 128 megs of ram, and a dual voodoo2 set up. This machine is over 6 years old and still does everything for me. Now that i'm grown I dont game as much, more of my time is spent in spread sheet and word. The moral of teh story is dont upgrade until yo uneed to, otherwise your wasting money. I have a friend (rich) who has an apple newton, He also has a dual p4 with rambus memory, and a dvd player with teh old standard. Moral of his story is the newest and greatest doesnt' always turn out to be the best.

    Well as much as we all would love this, I think from a financial stand point businesses will fair better. If you've ever compared the cost of a POTS line for a business as opposed to a home user you will notice the large price difference. At my company we pay for a T-1 which is split between voice and data, with VOIP we can pay only for the data (cheaper) then go with a VOIP career and save houndreds in LD charges a month. To be honest on the home realm I see Cell phones driving down the cost of POTS lines to where theywill be much less regulated (hopefully).

    thats liek saying well if pots legals lets all smoke pot then they will never catch us. No they will just pick a select few give them the maximum sentence until everybody get a clue. you should be responcible for your own network. so if you open your WAN then your responcible for its content. Suppose instead of mp3's these turned out to be pedofile material. I guess it would be ok then. laws are in place to protect society, not just yoru society but everyone.

    this is what makes the brain so powerful. it builds itself as needs be. The neurons that form pathways to move yrou hands, can just as easily learn to manage other body parts. I remember my sister who is a research scientist showing pictures of nuerons before and after trials. where they would paralyze a rat in a certain area then the rat woudl learn to walk with it's limited capacity. then looking on the nueeron pathways that formed in responce to learning the new task was incredible.

    Keep in mind the compressive strength of a material is not the same as the strenth in tension. Not only that material like this has pretty much no elastic properties. ie, thats why you can easily shatter a diamond even though it's so strong

    Yes this is true, however it woudlnt' be to difficult to create a system to feather the props in a inefficient enviroment. However wind from: natrual wind gust, passing viehicles, and slowing the viehicle.

    Going directly from electricity to mechanical energy is much more effcient that using electricity to liberate hydrogen, then using the chemical energy from the hydrogen to creat mechanical energy. in the latter process a significant amount of energy is lost to heat and a very mechanically in-effcient system (52% See link below.) also solar panels are only about 22% effecient as is. So all in all this makes a cool science experiment for the kids but it isn't proactical by any means.

    This concept isn't new by anymeans. The challenge to projects like this lay in the efficiency of solar cells. One would almost think that wind generators, with a combination of dynamic breaking (sticking a generator on the axles to slow the viehicle) woudl generate more hydrogen and do so more efficiently.

    A friend and I produce a little 1/2 hour news talk show which we broadcast on local cable channel three. Now we are looking to get it on our local pbs station. costs are negligable. My friend who is a tech freak has the latest G5 with a DV card and a high end Sony Cam (about $5000 in hardware). Studio time is free based on cable regulations. (if your not aware FCC requires cable operators to provide free service and equipment to local users.) for us this included a studio with 3 mounted cameras, an editing room and post editing equipment. The hardest recourse is time. but for someone who is dedicated is the price we pay.

    From what I've seen or read, the solutions to the x-prize challenge have been built for that specific purpose. example being Rutans space ship was disigned to fly 100km then return safely. I think to foster more innovation the challenge itself has to become more challenging. How about an orbital flight next. Then a moon orbital. This will allow designers to build on existing designs as opposed to coming up with the best and cheapest way to fly 100km. I sort of equating it with making lynnburgs flight a yearly event ..whats the point

    I grew up with the quake world generation. In college I remember playing 8 hour stretches on CTF servers. Now that i'm an adult 29y/o with a job, bills, kids I just can't have the fun I used to. sometimes it's depressing. My 11 y/o however would willingly mutalate himself for an extra hour of warcraft. The way I solve this is simple turning it off and kicking him out of the house to get an hour or two of ruff housing sun and fresh air. Now that he is in junior high he joined the football team and has learned the fun of interacting with others. He also uses that same competitive spirit that his games once satisfied on the field. so it's all about focusing that energy.

    It's called $4.00 a bottle. Damn it bud I can get for a $1 draft. This means more drunk more long more happy. Plus have more bills to give to the strippers. Before going out with the boys would cost upwards of $50 drinking imports. But after seeing the light $10 worth of bud can get one very lit.

    you know moving to an indirect drive system has pretty much been planned. I think the problem is that there needs to be more self checks and overides built into these cars.     $300,000 and more. Concidering tha this is really a cult classic and always will be. I personally think if this piece is authentic and you can prove it, it will go up in value.

    In my college years I would have agreed with you. People like you make bad architects. Architecture is issentially the fusion of creativity and problem solving. The goal of those design classes was to get you to think outside of the box, thus we dont have more re-invention of roman classism, or some other over burdoned style but somethign true and unique. eg.

    I think the true success of an architect is to solve a problem efficiently nd functionally, but at the same time in a truly creative and unque approach. It doesn't take a jeniious to design a barn, or montachello (sp)

    Reading an article recently on Prince's sales model. He makes $7.50 for each $10 CD. He controls distribution, handling advertising everything. If you've noticed the bill board charts lately his latest CD is doing well. My GF is a member of his sight where she can hang with other fanatics, or famatics as they call themselves. Prince has even managed to circumvent Ticketmaster to an extent. He sells a percentage of the floor seats through his site directly to his fans. I think everyone will agree that he is also the opposing force to any manufactured talent out there.

    Anything that will put ticket master out of business is good news to me. I could see this system working well with how Prince sells tickets through his website. You get a membership for $24 a year. Then when he tours you get a chance to buy floor tickets for $75. When you get to the theater you pick them up at will call. only thing is the line at will call is a mile long. The tickets are worth it though concidering his LA show I sat two rows across from Halle Berry :P on the floor seats at staples
