Recorded music should be considered advertising for live performances. Not a gravy train for life. Everyday coders dont get this - the people who do the actual work. it's the software companies who can sell the work on. In the same vein, it's the recording industry who should profit, not the artists. So, who cares about the recording executives? Hands up? Thought so.
Actually, I wonder if theaters could promote a sliding scale - 5 mins before the doors close on tickets the price drops to 50%, 1 min before it's at 10% and 10s before it's at 0%. Might be an interesting scramble. Want to guarantee a ticket? Buy early! If it's a film you're not that bothered about, wait and chance it.
But still it's not a good comparison - wear and tear on seats and you have a physical effect of being there which does not exist with a download.
This whole IM thing is no different than a phone call. Some communication requires careful thought and so is best written down so you can think about a response. Email is the perfect medium for such communication. Facebook is a general post to anyone who might read it. When you need a private, considered opinion, email is the way. Or am I now too old to 'get' facebook or twitter? They both seem pointless to me. In fact, moving your employees towards them would seem to be a drain on productivity if nothing else.
Not that I agree with the broken system, but shouldn't biometrics fix this in one fell swoop? Iris and fingerprint as well as PIN should be about as secure as anyone needs.
Thank you John D and Martin G for the invites. I accepted J.D's, but I appreciate the effort from both. Hopefully with a lot of/. getting on board G+ will be a little better than FB.
I want a planetarium at home. Is there a short throw projector that can fill a reasonable ceiling with a half decent resolution? I can make the assets myself for it, but I'm suprised there isn't more of this done. Movie on the ceiling, maybe, but planetarium for the kids is a very cool piece of kit.
Will JWST be able to produce images that fire the imagination of the public like Hubble, being IR? The science will be better, sure, but it seems like the US needs prodding to fund space exploration which Hubble seemed to do by the bucketload.
That can't be right, surely. I mean, I'd expect such a camera to come across some sort of mega engineering projects if that were the case, and directly image many planets, which I thought was many years down the line? Or is it set up just for stellar observation with limitations that preclude what I'd just said?
Why do we have to defeat them every episode? It's easy enough to write a story where there are people in danger, the Daleks are involved and the Doctor comes swanning in. He can't fight the whole Dalek army but decides to save as many as he can, fighting a few and sneaking them out, losing some on the way. The Daleks don't lose and the Doctor wins.
Plenty of scope for Dalek / Doctor stories that don't mean anyone gets wiped out. I could come up with ideas about that all day long. New Dalek empire, stronger than ever, they snatch the TARDIS and Doctor and decide to put him on trial. Clever writing making it seem like the Doctor is somewhat guilty of leaving too many people to die, killing too many Daleks, whatever. Twist at the end where the Doctor escapes in the TARDIS. Hey, I'd like to see that episode. Then bring back Gallifrey - not for one paltry episode, but for good, along with the Daleks.
No need to go for the end of the world every season.
When the PS3 was announced, wasn't it said that if it had been made 5 years earlier, it would have gone into the top 100 supercomputer list? I think that's what the summary is talking about - more a nickname from the past than an actual assessment of the performance now against todays supercomputers.
I don't care if he was talking in a miss piggy voice, he was R I G H T. When, legally, you are in the right, there's nothing else to say. The police here had no purpose or right to do what they did. In fact, detaining this guy was taking them away from policing the crowd. They were actively making the march more dangerous by their absence.
Judging someone by the tone or pitch of their voice is idiotic. It is the content that matters.
The real problem are with those hypocrites that say "I use to play my backups". Come on, we all here know that 90% of people that say that are lying and use homebrew to pirate games.
90% of people speed on the roads. Should we punish ALL drivers for speeding? I have the homebrew channel on my wii, and I love the emulation side of it, as well as being able to use my wii via ftp to store files etc. (I know, emulation tends to use ripped ROMS as well, but honestly, all the speccy games I play via emulation I still own in the loft somewhere. I can't bear to throw them out) Homebrew just makes the thing more useful. If nintendo found a way to allow homebrew and write apps for it there would be a LOT of developers for it I'm sure, maybe even monetise the apps similar to apples model with the iphone.
But no, they punish all modders and homebrew writers who do it for the love of doing it.
I think nintendo would be suprised at the homebrew developers if they gave them an avenue to work with while trying to combat piracy. But in the end, this won't change anything. Piracy cannot be stopped, it's just the level that the company is willing to endure that changes.
The most use my wii sees these days is watching things via BBC's iplayer, which is a fantastic function. The wii could be turned into an internet TV instantly if nintendo got some companies involved like the BBC. There's life in the thing yet before a Wii 2.
But both those options cost money. Homebrew would be free, therefore the better solution as long as it's not leading to active piracy. Why spend when you don't have to?
I've only had one lucid dream, new years day 2009 at 8.04 am. I can say this as it's one of the most powerful experiences of my life. To wake up within a dream and have total control over everything is not something you can easily describe to someone. While the actual experience might sound stupid (I conjured up a robot, melted it with fire from my hands, smashed it through a wall and opened a portal before it hit the ground to get rid of it, then went flying) it doesn't bring across the feeling of power.
It was literally your own universe to play in. And I'm convinced if someone cracks the secret of sparking lucid dreaming regularly for the masses, it would be the end of civilisation as we see it now. There would be no point in doing much in reality, except eat enough to get to the next dream. I'm a lifelong gamer in my mid 30's now, I don't think that qualifies me for just one lucid dream. I wish I could have more. Reality is fun and all, don't get me wrong. But being God is something else.
As long as it's not Vorlon. They're too flighty.

Ahh, I see they have exceeded capacity at the moment. Does that mean the goldrush for invites is now over for a bit?
Only if you're in a generous mood :)

Thanks in anticipation

It's cheaper because they actually get to earn profit by selling games this time.

I simply keep mine turned off, and turn it on when I need to use it. A mobile is for my convenience, not other peoples.
There is a library (TV Out) which already outputs 2 bit colour to PAL or NTSC, and some games written for it: http://nootropicdesign.com/hackvision/
Hey!
Green! Purple! Green!

I'm glad he's doing fine. I'm sure 99% of the nerdocracy wish him well. Especially from me since I made a SW kid video.
Good luck to him, but now we should leave him alone.
But should you be sent to China for the trial??
