So Tennessee is tossing aside the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment in favor of teaching religious doctrine in public schools. What's next?...Abstinence-only Sex Ed? Witch trials? Burning at the stake? a Christian theocracy?
"it's a dystopia where ONLY consumers have rights. Looks kinda interesting, might have to give it a read."
You read wrong. Both Jennifer Government and The Space Merchants are leftist-leaning. I read both novels recently and I assure you the consumer has no rights and ONLY corporations have rights
True, it was libertarian in that the Federal Government was weak but the corporations had all the rights. Nike was able to assassinate one of its consumers, believing by some twisted logic that the assassination would increase market value of their product. In fact, murder and corporate espionage occured throughout the novel. The police were private-sector and only acted upon payment.
Has anyone ever read the Science Fiction classic The Space Merchants or the more recent novel Jennifer Government? This is where we're headed...a society where consumers have no rights.
Put it this way, do you think its acceptable to put out an app that's a cure for Christianity or "family values" Conservatism? I don't fall into either of these two categories but I still understand how it would be inappropriate for Apple to block such apps. The company potentially hurts its profits by taking sides on controversial moral issues. So, the best option is to take niether side.
My understanding about most law schools (correct me if I'm wrong) is that the law students only need to maintain a 2.0 GPA to graduate, whereas most other grad students must maintain a 3.0. IMO, if law students can get away with that, then they should have to pay a high price for their education.
"If you don't like your internet service provider's policies, you can simply switch to another one." In the land of make-believe it might be that easy. In reality, there is only one cable internet provider per town. The ISP receives municipal subsidies for land and equipment. Therefore, the ISPs are a monopolies. If you want another cable ISP, you have to move. As for other broadband technologies...they all have serious faults and disadvantages compared to cable ISP. DSL => must be within 3 miles of CO. Verizon FIOS => limited availability by region. Satellite => requires an unobstructed view of the southern sky, performance severely affected by weather. Mobile => got dead zones? I worked in the telecommunications industry for 15 years and this Lee Sharpe hasn't got a clue.
Blame the thousands of lobbyists in Washington. They have many of the politicians in their pockets, both Republicans and Democrats. The lobbyists are their to protect the corporate exec's interests.
Just a few days ago I had to remove a rogue anti-virus from my folks' desktop PC. I had to boot into safe mode, remove some files and run SuperAntiSpyware to get rid of it. The name of it was "Security Tools". It first popped up from the system tray and said the computer had 47 viruses. It then asked for a credit card number to remove the viruses (fortunately, my folks never entered a cc number). The "47 viruses" reported was false and the rogue-antivirus itself was intercepting Taskmanager and anti-spyware programs. I don't know how anyone can say these rogue antivirus programs are legit.
"Dell has stopped selling consumer PCs preloaded with Ubuntu from its website, and doesn't know when they're coming back." I wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft had a hand in this.
It should now be China's responsibility to send up a chain-gang of cons in orange jumpsuits/spacesuits with burlap bags and trash sticks to collect all the floating junk.
"Nokia, for example, welcomed the move by the Indian government to have a symbol for the rupee.". Not surprising since a huge portion of Nokia's hardware and software development is now done in Hyderabad, India.

The power of the internet compels you!

Um... I meant appropriate for Apple to block such apps. :P

It also reminded me of "The Accidental Time Machine" by Joe Haldeman. Anyway, I'm ecstatic that Futurama is back.
Smellovision, just like the Bugs Bunny cartoon?
What can possibly be admired by the Pope, or Glenn Beck and his straw-man arguments
...and if the Martian child comes back to earth, he can start a revolution with a religious cult and become a stranger in a strange land.

Do not ask me to choose between religion and technology. Technology will win over every time.
"could there possibly be any other logical explanation for kids having more symptoms of illness on school days?" Yeah, how about psycho-somatic?

I bet Red is the most likely to be pulled over and ticketed for speeding.

What next? Will there be an anti-drug propaganda film called "Binaural Madness"?
Forget about iris, retinal or fingerprint scans. Please deposit stool sample on the scanning pad. Kind'a gross.
I refuse to believe that.
If Bruce Willis can find the fifth element in time, we'll all be saved.
