My previous post was certinly Off Topic, but it was not a Troll. I linked to the amazon.com page about the book that I was speaking of. It's a book that I own and read.
I use Spybot S&D along with their Tea Timer. I also use Ad Aware, MS Antispyware, Hijack This, Spyware Blaster and an antivirus. Every once in a while, something shows up in a scan but isn't usally too hard.
My GF's machine gets all kinds of shit on it. The biggest difference is the user involved. I don't install anything unless I know exactly what it is. My GF's kids play all kinds of java games on the web and without fail the machine with the most crap on it is the one that they use.
Be careful and you can usually avoid the infestation in the first place.
In Randall Kennedy's book "nigger", he describes the story of David Howard. David Howard, a white director of a municipal agency in Washington D.C. was having a meeting with his staff and said that they had to be "niggardly" with the money at their disposal. Obviously, the word has no racial connotations but the public outcry that resulted caused Mr. Howard to resign his position. Mr. Howard, who was an open homosexual, would no doubt have been offended if people had made comments about going to the smoking area to "smoke a fag", even though in this context there is no intent to be offensive.
The previous poster was right, the words Niggardly and Niggling have fallen out of common use because of their similarity to "The N word".
Many graphic houses are designed to run photoshop. Their equipment is calibrated for Photoshop's color separations. Their processes are centered around Photoshop.
The GIMP is cool, don't get me wrong but Photoshop based houses will only run Photoshop.
The day that it is ported to Linux is the day that these houses will start looking at Linux on the desktop.
Whenever labor is in great supply, employers get to pretty much fuck you at every opportunity. Because if there's something that you won't do, there is som poor unemployed SOB who will for either the same or less money.
I did some work for a large computer maker/direct seller and they did all kinds of shady things. Like expecting you to show up 30 minutes before the start of your scheduled shift and work that time for free. To offer "optional" training, but then penalize you for not taking it during your own time.
More and more companies are starting to do this sort of thing. It doesn't look like it's going to change anytime soon.
Hell, I've got an old P60 that I was using as a router until the last year or so and it just worked fine and it was always amusing to see Linux notice the FDIV bug on boot.
Intel offered free replacements for those. Why in the hell do you still have it?
Yeah could it be a sports car brakes better then a suv? Suvs are crap cars. They are a danger on the road and not just because they are driven by assholes.
Chill out Mr. Sierra Club, I think I can see where you're heading.
They are also heavy, have a high center of gravity making them worthless when the shit hits the fan as they react badly.
My SUV weighs ~13% more than my sports car. The stopping distance is approxamately 30% longer.
You are comparing the braking between a car designed to have good handling vs a car designed to appeal to the asshole in you.
Anything other than a Yugo is designed to appeal to the asshole in you. Be it a big honking SUV that most people don't take off-road or haul anything in. Or a sports car than can go 120 MPH on highways where the speed limit is 75 MPH. Or even the hybrids that are designed to appeal to the self righteous assholes who want to feel better than everyone else.
ABS on the same car has been proven time and time again to shorten brake distances. The only exception can occur with REALLY good drivers. You are not a really good driver.
Can I borrow your crystal ball? Or do you have some other method of divining information about me?
I know my vehicles. Bottom line. I know when I'm better off with ABS and when I'm better off without it. Maybe you don't and that's fine. But your inability to anticipate your car shouldn't doom the rest of us who can.
The closest car that I could find data on was the 1992 Camaro Coupe. My car is a 1986 Camaro Coupe. The weights should be roughtly the same. The Curb weight is 3105 pounds. The Curb Weight of my 1993 GMC Jimmy is 3536 pounds.
There is a 13% difference in weight between the two. The stopping distances when ABS kicks on is closer to 30% greater. It's NOT just the weight difference.
After driving the vehicles as long as I have, I know how they behave under most conditions.
About 3 1/2 years ago, I was involved in a discussion with a coworker. She felt that the higher education system was biased against black people and women, especially poor ones and as a result black people and women had no chance to get ahead in America.
My response was that if you work your ass off and do well in High School, you can get a scholarship, get an education and make something of yourself.
Her response was that people who didn't get straight As couldn't get scholarships. I said to her that some people don't belong in college. Some people are better suited as tradespeople. If you just squaked through med school with Cs, I don't want you as a doctor. It doesn't matter what you are(color or gender); not everyone is suited to be a scientist.
If white coats and glasses are enough to deter you, go work at the makeup counter at your local mall. You were never going to be a scientist anyway.
Long story short, the Democrats have some issues that I agree with. The problem is that they are such hard liners on the other issues, that I can't support them.
Why not develop some kind of air chamber that could be installed in a building that is insulated so air could be cooled off-peak but then released on-demand? Or maybe a pressurized tank?
Pressurizing the air will heat it. As the molecules are squeezed closer together there will be more friction and the temperature will rise. That would negate the benefit of such a mechanism, because the air would have to be cooled again.
Recording the lectures is against my university's policies (whether or not I agree with it, can be saved for another discussion). Encouraging others to break a universities rules and policies...
A university's policies are not laws.
It's not against the law to encourage someone to break a policy.
We depend on modern herbicides and pesticides to maintain the food production it takes to feed a planet that's already over-crowded.
We have more than enough arable land and labor to feed everyone on this planet. The problem is the greedy bastards who hoard resources for themselves and cause others to stave.
Apple on the other hand seems to be actively listening to their customers and gives them what they want
Take the dick out of your mouth fanboy.
Apple doesn't listen to its customers, customers listen to Apple. In it's heyday the PPC was the king of the processor mountain. Apple isn't giving the customers what they want, the customers want whatever Apple offers them. Remember Apple's commercial about how the G5 was a weapon?
I remember how a year ago, the Mac fanatics were singing the praises of the G5. Now every Apple fanboy is cheering about how great the new Intel Macs are.
Mac users are not entirely unlike a religious cult. Fanatically loyal and become quite hostile when one of their bretheren leaves the fold.
If you don't believe in DRM but can argue effectively for it, you're an asset to your company.
If you can argue for anything just because someone is paying you, you're a morally bankrupt intellectual whore.

I'm sure that there is a more elegant solution, but I use Autopatcher, when I need to bring a system up to date.
Slipstream SP2 into an install CD. When it's installed copy over and run Autopatcher.
If I had to do it more often, I'd probably look into a better way but the 4-5 times a year that I need to install XP doesn't make it worthwhile.

I have found that with FireFox, if you disable Java no spyware or viruses seem to slip past.

I'm in the US and I have a 27" Apex TV that has an actual power button on the front AND a power(standby) button on the remote control.
TV sets with a true power button are available here, just because some people choose not to buy them doesn't mean that they're not here.
