Instead of ignoring the second amendment, or crusading for the rights of Neo-Nazis to march through black neighborhoods the ACLU is doing something that's actually positive. I applaud them for this.
My understanding of online taxes is that businesses charge tax only if they have a physical presence in the state the order originated from, i.e. warehouse, storefront, offices.
He's not talking about sales tax, he's talking about income tax. Even if you only sell intrastate, you are still responsible to pay income taxes on the profits that you make.
The IRS is the one organization that you don't want to fuck with. Remember, these are the guys who took down Al Capone.
(there's a reason the first thing apple removed from their unix was X11).
Namely that they wanted add "Apple's" look and feel to the OS. Since they were breaking new ground, they didn't have to worry about backwards compatibility with thousands of existing apps. It may not be perfect, but it's what we have. If someone did do away with X11, the naysayers would be bitching about how unreliable Linux developers are for breaking compatibility with all of those apps.
Cable and Satellite companies will have higher overhead because of cheapskates who change their programming 8 times a day so that they only have to pay for 3 channels.
OK, that's an extreme example but when I worked for a Satellite TV company we had people who would switch from HBO to Showtime to Cinemax to Starz two or three times per week.
It costs money to have customer service reps. The computing power necessary to process all of those changes is not free. Lawyers to constantly negotiate new pricing contracts with the networks are not free. Companies are not going to eat those costs. It's going to get passed along to every one of their subscribers.
Then again I've never seen sex as 'something that can happen anytime', but hten I'm picky about who I'll have sex with... I guess if you don't really care who it's with, then things are different...
I have a girlfriend. She's the only one I'm having sex with. Make no mistake about it, it's fantastic. If it'll be fantastic now, it'll be fantastic an in hour too.
Maybe when you're 15 and it's still amazing that you're having sex, but I'm 30. I've had all kinds of sex. I've been married and divorced. I've had several girlfriends over the years.
When I'm having a good run at CS and I have an 80/23 kill/death ratio, I'd rather keep playing for a while. Sex is something you can have anytime, a good gaming session needs to be enjoyed when it happens.
I'm a crypto beginner. I've read a couple of books on the subject but I'm still no cypherpunk.
Basically, this means nothing for file validation.
When digitally signing documents, typically get the MD5 hash of the document and then sign that. It's faster to sign a hash than it is to sign an entire document. Also, it *might* provide you with more security (of your secret key) when you sign a hash than the entire document. It's all theoretical, but having more signed data to analyze might possibly provide an attacker with a faster avenue to deduce your secret key, it's HIGHLY unlikely but possible.
Being able to find MD5 collisions means that if you sign a message that says "I agree to terms ABC." I can generate a message that says "I agree to terms XYZ." and make it appear that you have agreed to something different. Or a really connected attacker could intercept your original message and substitute a false one in its place.
You'll be hurt in the time you're wasting. Your credibility will be harmed as well.
These are the kinds of things that can be done in one's spare time and anonymously. Without libel and slander laws, the person making false accusations has less to fear than the object of them.
Someone I fired did something similar, online. I believe the site lasted a year with no updates and no one except a girlfriend asked me about it. The site might still exist, but with a 2001 date it is pretty meaningless.
Perhaps then, you fired this person for being inept. Someone who is determined enough AND resourceful enough can and will generate more traffic to their libelous site.
If I call your (Significant other), parents, employer, all of your clients, (clergyperson), the managers of all the nearby grocery stores and tell them all that you're a child molester and a rapist don't you think you'd be harmed?
Don't you think that you'd be entitled to sue me for slander?
If I posted your picture, phone number and address on my blog and said all of those same things, why shouldn't you be able to sue me for libel?
Well, at least as long as the things I said/wrote were untrue.
Did the fallout of criticism over DIVX make people stop shopping at Circuit City? No.
I worked at CC when DiVX was launched. The difference is that most of what people were saying about DiVX was TRUE.

It's a pretty simple rule in the camera community: If the deal's too good to be true, it is.
That's the rule in every community.
Like every rule there are exceptions, yesterday I bought a 5.6" TFT display for under $10, but these kind of things don't happen often.

Hot iron branding have progressed little since the days of cowboys.
There's always cold brass iron branding.

Bullshit...It didn't mean higher prices for c-band sat's so how would it with dbs sats and cable?
And in case you didn't notice, C-Band is dying.

Pay attention, you young whippersnappers! This is either deep wisdom, hard-won through age... or the early onset of senility.

Sex sometimes ISN'T better than gaming.

This is NOT a functional engine, it is a model. A functional engine made out of paper would most likely burn.

There's no accounting for taste, some people actually like to get fucked in the ass too.
I've never taken one in my pooper and I've never overpaid for digital audio files. And I'll never do either.
Just because some people actually like to do both doesn't mean that the rest of us should do anything besides laugh at them.

Its what I DO when I'm at work that should matter, NOT what I wear.
That's precisely it. IT is the one department in most businesses where what you do means far more than how you look when you do it.
Unshaven, wrinkled pants and no tie doesn't mean that you can't do well in IT.
