Make the switch. MS will be plagued by this for a long time to come. Switch now before you go Vista, imho. That's exactly what I'm doing. I've been too lazy to really put a lot of time into learning Linux until I saw the Vista betas.
Well, I bet we've all read/. summaries with abbreviations that we've wondered about. The summary just courteously saved those people a lookup, even if just to brush up.
MP? Implicitly, a British law, yes?
That would mean that the option of activism to have this enforced is only possible for the British. That is not to say this is a bad thing, on the contrary - the British market is so large that the HW manufacturers probably cannot negate it, and if they're forced to open up a bit we all win. Even the HW manufacturers.
Actually the radio will be telling people who to like. It will be people they can afford (most likely free people in many cases). Sounds like a win for me if the RIAA gets what they want. Actually, that could just imply that the ones who make it affordable for radio stations make it less affordable to the consumer. That gives more airtime and more profit...
DE: DR, FRANK MORGAN
Cher

Gmail can't support IMAP properly because of the labels feature they have. Breaks IMAP spec. Really? I've noticed that Thunderbird colour "labels" are shared between clients... But of course, that's just 6 different states. Hell, if it wasn't for the ease of use and my work-provided IMAP, I'd probably look into IMAP server setup myself.
"(..) making it harder to change ISPs if a better deal comes along."
So... Setting up Outlook Express with the phone support poses too much of a challenge? POP3 not doing it for ya? Hell, I can even ask GMail to import mails as POP3 from my other Gmail App addresses (or the other way around). AFAIR, Google touted this as being "pro-consumer", for the reason that there's no lock in to Gmail, nor Gmail for your domain.
Of course, a case can be made for them reinforcing the binding by being excessively aweXome, but we can hardly blame them for it.
And then, the question would be, would I rather have some targeted text ads around my mail, or some flashy viagra-ringtone ads. Actually... A flashy viagra-ringtone might be useful in the trains. Then, when someone decides to test EVERY FUCKING RINGTONE on their phone, I can just call myself from my other phone. I haven't seen any viagra-ads, but if it's flashy, I think it'll shut them up.
Now, I honestly don't believe that the infrastructure element is less expensive in Denmark, especially since GSM rollout was years before the US GSM rollout. We have very tightly packed competition, and that sort of takes care of some of the excess fat there used to be...
Your points argue against your statement. A smaller, more dense population, with an older (thus paid for) infrastructure and high competition allows for more flexibility in price than what we get in the States. Those of us in urban and more dense sub-urban areas are paying for the cost of spreading infrastructure to less dense suburban and rural areas.
Oh. Yeah. That's true. As for coverage... I was extrapolating from hearsay (my american chums) that coverage was nowhere near as good, even in the town areas... But maybe that was back in the CDMA-days.
OTOH, it probably balances out with my taxes nearing 50% and our Sales Tax at 25%.
That's horrible! I pay maybe 30% on income taxes (no state income tax, yay!), and ~8.8% sales tax (which is actually high since WA doesn't have an income tax), and I still feel like I'm being overtaxed. I have no idea how you deal with such high taxation.
Then again, we don't have many of the social services that your taxes provide (health care, for example), but my job provides excellent benefits so I'm not going to complain:)
Social services is where it's at... Only thing not covered is dental, really, and child care - both of which are subsidized in some portion, anyway. Also, I've never paid to go to school (save for trips to other countries and some books), plus we get a student allowance from the state. Sadly, we have a right-leaning government right now (think of them as a leftist Democratic Party leadership) that are tripping up all the little things that matter. Bastards.
My cell works just about everywhere, including Canada (though I have to roam, which I'm fine with as I rarely go to Canada), I always have it on me, and the $40/mo plan I'm on gives me 1000 minutes a month with free, unlimited nights and weekends. However, I'm also an anomoly in terms of phone usage for my age group. I spend an average of < 30 minutes a month on the phone, as most of my calls generally sound something like, "Hey it's me. Yeah, I'll see you in a few minutes." Honestly, I'm glad we don't have those shady, intransparent subscriptions in Denmark...
Well, we have something half-shady, but nowhere near as horribly overcharged. 40$ a month for 30 min usage? (Plus, I'm guessing, you're also paying in some way to receive calls). Disclaimer: I used to work at a regional mobile telco.
30 min usage at a very high rate of 1 DKK per minute, that would come to 30 DKK. If not using a prepaid card, there'd probably be a monthly minimum of around 25-50 DKK. So, if we said you had a minimum usage of 50 DKK a month, that would come out to roughly 10US$. Per month.

Their ICQ accounts have not been baleeted, they've simply been reassigned to a new number.
If they can guess the number within 96 hours they can keep their account. Everything is the same eccept the number. A minor problem is that it does not update your friends' ICQ numbers if they're in the same lottery.
Maybe it's his signature? Does he really need to tell everyone he works for Microsoft? Can't you just provide good information and not bring the company you work for in to try to up your "cred"? However little I care for Microsoft and their business methods, I prefer that he has a disclaimer - otherwise someone would probably troll over his repeated MS-related posts (which I've seen countless times here when people have had repeated good things to say about X company). Also, apart from that, Microsoft is a very visible and controversial company, so owning up to being part of it is fine (in my book). That gives you a chance to weigh that onto what he has written and evaluate it in that context.
Whether it belongs under every post is debatable, but the fact of the matter is that it is relevant in many cases where he talks about MS.
Mods can use their points in any way they see fit. That's what Metamod is for - catching obvious abuse. --- Sorry if the post is messy, I got 4 phone calls while I was typing this. It's as if my employer expects me to be working just because I'm present.
Unless, of course, you know how to pronounce Chinese. His name is properly read as "Gong Wong". Not nearly as funny, now, is it? Is this a result of a poor transliteration tradition? That would, to me, not make much sense as the Chinese language is very structured, and transliterating it to a simpler structure shouldn't bring about such wide gaps (a and o? Come on!)
Well, you may have a point about Cory in particular, I take exception to your use of the term "anyone". The majority of the world lives outside the US and therefore should not feel intimidated by its laws. -- 09 F9 11 02 9D 74 E3 5B D8 41 56 C5 63 56 88 C0 Damnit, I hate being part of the majority. Argh. Sorry. Forgot that Slashcode removes the line breaks. Then again, you probably didn't read much anyway.

Very good. However, the article is about Shift, which builds on the Offset Cursor concept - and works around that problem.

That's way too scare for me. I find the old Palpatine easier on the eyes.
That was also my first thought...
Nobody is nearly universally adored. Not even the Dalai Lama, who is basically just a nice guy with bad eyes.
This isn't any other OS. This is BSD. Renowned for security implementation.
