  1. Re:Educational content as "cheat codes" on What's In an Educational Game? · · Score: 1

For boys at least you could make a FPS style game. Where in order to reload you must accomplish an arithmetic question. In order to obtain more ammo with which you may reload you have to do more problems, possibly of any sort (reading comprehension, spelling, math, math word problems, the list could go on). You could make almost all interactions with objects in the world involve solving a problem, anything that you'd want done without breaking the pace of gameplay would probably be best left as a simple arithmetic question, the kind of problems that you usually encourage children to memorize.

Granted that's a very straight forward way of implementing the educational material into a game and it may garner resistance from children. That could be addressed though by tailoring the difficulty so that the game provides a simple enough challenge that the child doesn't mind the occasional halt in game play.

While I agree that the rule "Never go to bed angry" is a bad one I wouldn't bet on the problem(s) that caused the anger to evaporate over night.

Communication is the biggest problem. If there is something wrong or that the two partners disagree on then you need to discuss it. It doesn't have to be immediately but the partners do need to set a day and time to discuss it. And when you talk about the issue it's important to only say what you think and feel personally, do not under any circumstances put words in your partners mouth. Whenever one of you finishes a statement the other needs to ensure that you accurately understand what they said by restating it without adding judgement. Sometimes hearing what you've said restated will help you see where you aren't being clear about something.

And when your partner is upset about something do not ever try and laugh it off, laughing about something they consider serious is dismissive of the problem and their concerns. No one appreciates not being taken seriously by their partner. Personally I am too likely myself to laugh about something that upsets my wife. I tend to see humour in most everything and end up laughing about some aspect of the issue before I think about it.

And lastly do not hint at something unless you really really don't care if you get the desired result. Expecting someone else to understand if they really loved you is just plain idiotic. When you hint around at something you are setting your partner up for failure. It'll frustrate you and them when it doesn't work out so just politely ask for what you want and say what you feel and think when it's appropriate to do so, but do not hint.

My water bottle example was overly simple because it didn't demonstrate any modification for it to be useable. Modifying an existing device into a Bong is not illegal everywhere nor is it illegal to sell them everywhere in the US. The distinction there is that you can't advertise them for use with illegal drugs, though tobacco use is fine. That's a silly distinction in my opinion and is along the same lines as laws that ban the sale of "sex toys", but "adult novelties" that are marked as not for actual use are okay. The people that press for these laws should push for making spoons, open flames and syringes all illegal also.

You are perfectly free to remove the emmissions controls from your vehicles. Just don't get mad when you are no longer allowed to drive them on public property.

You are also allowed to do whatever you want with an Odometer in your own vehicle. Just don't go and claim that the reading is accurate.

You may also remove all the seatbelts from a vehicle. Operating it in that condition though on public property or with passengers will likely get you in trouble.

The only semi valid point is the odometer adjusting, and that's because it's not a safety issue but an honesty one. When I purchased my xbox there was no aggreement for me to sign or not that said I could not modify it or have another modify it.

If the beverage companies got a law passed so that no one could re-use their bottles would you find that law valid? What if Nalogen started selling their bottles prefilled with water and stated selling "refills" for their bottles and tried to restrict you from refilling your bottle on your own through acts of congress?

Unless it breaks someone elses basic human rights we should be allowed to use and modify any product legally purchased as we see fit.

Whether or not the 187 F-22's will be enough to fullfil our needs in the future we won't know until it's already too late. Restarting production for them will just make them even more expensive, it's a judgement call and congress had to be talked into it by the DoD.

That said the F-22 is way more plane supposedly than any of our potential competitors can field. And even a few F-22's can dominate a force of 5 times their size. The 180 something of them that we are already planning to produce should be enough to keep our forces superior. The new F-35 isn't actually as good as the F-22 in many respects but it is cheaper and good enough to fill the roles it's designed for.
