The scientific haters of astrology say that 'the planets/stars are too far, their influence is very weak..' I think those people are just arrogant. The planets/stars are huge objects that bend space-time, emit EM radiation and particles.. We are just a mycosis on one small rock and as such, we are affected by changes in the environment of the rock. Astrology studies the relation between us (the individual) and the clockwork of outer space. It is an old science that combines math, astronomy, history, medicine, sociology, psychology.
It requires the apprentice to be open-minded and to have some level of empathy. And of course, one has to study. The basics can be covered in a year, but the devil is in the detail, so one can study astrology his whole life and still be surprised. Besides, a good astrology book starts by saying that it can help you to understand, not to predict.
However, there are also bad books on astrology. There are also lazy/greedy people with no talent or integrity and these charlatans degrade the whole idea. Combine that with the arrogance of modern science and the stupidity of modern journalism and as a result, members of human society are deprived of a tool that can help them to understand life.
Obligatory: I have not RTFA;) But I see it more like a first attempt to get to the 3laws.
When E.T. came to cinemas I couldn't read yet so my mother had to read the subtitles for me (this was in OMG!! socialist CzechoSlovakia) and I have been a sci-fi fan since. But you know, it's just stories about possible concepts that cannot be realized yet. But we are getting there. Sometimes it's faster (computing, communications..), sometimes slower (energy, spacetech, robotics..) than expected. Industrial robots with great force and dangerous tools have been working with humans for years, but until now it was the DirtyDancing approach: 'This is my space and this is your space'..
I think it is good that they work on man/machine interaction solution and we might eventually get The 3 Laws of Robotics, or something like it;)
The French were not able (too sexist?) to elect a woman so they ended up with Hungarian gypsy instead. I am from Slovakia and we have some issues with both Hungarians (tend to be arrogant) and gypsies (tend to be criminal), but maybe it's just our experiences with them.
I am glad to hear that it is faster - hell! I am glad it works and even more - on an old config, because I have a 3yr old asus A6M. I am always quite suspicious about Ubuntu. My first experience was OK, but it was the 6.x and set up by an uebergeek friend of mine. Then a 7.10 64bit did not even get to install (serious graphic issue - just stripes on the screen), the 7.10 i386 was OK (after solving the issue with nVidia Go and yes, it was not that difficult to do some editing after 15s of googlin';) Then the 8.04 64bit was beautiful and fast with one tiny little problem with the network - and we know that Only a network is a computer. This time I couldn't solve that so it just sits there and takes 20GB of my disk space. I should wait until 8.04.1 was out... So when I yesterday finally started the 8.04.1 64bit I realized that it is more convenient to go with the 32bit edition. But for now I think I will just wait and continue with XP. btw - the only time I saw a BSOD on my winXP on the said notebook was after I have installed Firefox3 when it was released and updated winamp at the same time. So much for a fresh version.:(
See, there is a problem - different processes take place during aging. Of course, using this method won't add any flavour to the beverage - you need a wooden barrel for that. But this is about the heavier alcohols mentioned above. You can filter those out by active charcoal filtration. What this machine does is the decomposition of these big molecules. And it works - one of my professors at university uses the ultrasonic cleaner (regular lab/jewelers equipment) for aging of plum brandy. Fruit brandies are traditionally very popular in central Europe - it's the best way of saving summer sunlight for the cold winter;) The best distillers even don't want to sell you a product that is younger than 6years (and yes, the aging takes place in glass containers).
Except that the last natural resources reserves will be in Russia so they don't need to leave their country when looking for oil/gas/coal/gold/diamonds... It's more likely they will need to defend themselves againts China when the resources will get depleted.
What is your culture worth when you are in Guantanamo or other concentration camp?
Did not understand why Great Britain belonged to Oceania considering its proximity (and maybe some cultural relations) to Europe.
Yes, that is correct (at least for now). But Google is not only a piece of software running on some hardware. Google has MILLIONS fleshware nodes. Because every user provides inputs and makes choices and... I think you can figure out the rest. And the moral of the story is - if you are afraid of artificial intelligence, stop teaching it.
Earth callin' anonymous coward - today is the 31st of July 2008, i repeat - 2008. Please stop reading 20years old newspapers and recycle it.

It is called dynamic balance.

There is even more justified anti-americanism in the world - see some interviews with Gore Vidal (an American btw) on youtube. But I agree with you - I am not American either but I think that NASA is actually the biggest American contribution to the evolution of mankind. And I am also glad that US adopted something good from nazi Germany and not only fascism and brainwashing.
i have installed a prefresh software (never did before and did so only based on the slashdot article) maybe i an a n00b, but since i've installed firefox3 and winamp 5.xx (the newest that time) i have seen BSOD (yes, i am a n00b...) on my XP more times in 1 month than... hell! never have seen BSOD on my XP before!! seriously - it is the same situation all over again - have installed ubuntu 8.04 on the machine and it's just sitting there cause the network is not workin' (so it is pretty much useless). i know - it is not impossible to repair, but then they should not say "linux for human beings" cause it is still for the hackers, like any other linux. seriously - NEVER install the newest version of anything (w8 at least a week)
Every fascist regime needs an enemy to justify any unpopular actions. I am from a former socialist country so I still remember how it was important to protect "the socialist way of life" against the "western imperialists". Fortunately, the whole communism idea was dropped all over the world(hell - even in its cradle - Russia) so now all these people can think for themselves. But there was no change in the system in the US and the owners of the country are all old men that probably still live in the 60's so they still use the same enemy to scare the simple people (u know - the rednecks that probably never left their county). That's the reason why Cuba is still officially evil. The situation was really bad in Cuba for some time, now they are in a better situation than cca 10years ago. The crisis even helped to cure the population - the level of obesity, cardiovascular diseases and diabetes dropped significantly. The American media (if accessible there) would probably help to change the regime in Cuba. But access to the internet (where people have free access to different information) could actually even strenghten the good feeling about NOT living in the USA. You know, the dollar was almost 3times more expensive 15yrs ago (and yes, we have inflation too) and when I watched M.Moore's movie Sicko (I know - I did not say he doesn't exagerate a bit) I was crying the tears of rage for the poor people that have no right for a basic health care and are told to live in the "greatest country".
smooth move
Also, don't forget Neal Stephenson.. Are you serious or just trolling?

That would be maybe Czech. Correct Slovak is 'Pojebte sa!'
Motorola's chip division is now called Freescale semiconductor and their portfolio of 32bit processors is quite rich http://www.freescale.com/webapp/sps/site/homepage.jsp?nodeId=0162468rH3. Granted, most of them are not suitable for a PC, but some are - and yes, they do run Linux ;).

Xactly! English wine must be something like French beer or German tea - you just don't drink those if you want to enjoy your beverage.
