  1. Wasted research... on Analyst Estimates AT&T Needs To Spend $5B To Catch Up · · Score: 1

Most AT&T users could tell you that AT&T really needs to get their shit together. No need for expensive research.

Personally, I am with AT&T now because:
1 - I had to have a GSM phone (CDMA FTL!)
2 - T-Mobile's covereage sucks where I live in Atlanta (or at least it did 18 months ago)

I am pissed and dont have much of a choice - its MaBell of Tmob. Not much is out there that would drive me to the shackles of CDMA hell with BigRed.

At distances greater than 10 meters, I am not sure of the lethality...but just hearing it causes me to double over with pain.

I dunno...I think there is a huge difference even in the past 20 years. I was born in 1974 and was told that basically not everyone is a winner - there are some losers, the world needs astronauts and ditch diggers, we cant all drive a hot rod camaro - sometimes you have to have the brown LTD that smokes a little when it starts up. It conditioned to me the inevitable failures that I would have in life and I did not overreact. Life sucks, get a helmet.

Kids these days (hell, my 17 year old cousin is like this) are told that EVERYONE is a winner and a unique and beautiful snowflake, that everyone can be whatever they want to be, and that we all can have whatever we want. These kids have no exposure to failure...and have a meltdown when they meet it for the first time.

My wife and I have had this discussion (and its gone interesting since she is Swedish and was not raised around corporal punishment - while I got whippings if I deserved it) and we are going to raise our kids to not bullshit them about the reality of life. That there is always going to be someone better at them at something - but that its ok. Life goes on and there is no reason to freak if you get a B- when you did your best, get picked last at kick ball because you dont run as fast as some of the other kids, or the girl/boy of you have been having wet dreams about is not interested in you.

As much as I cringe saying this, I almost wish the FCC would punch AT&T and T-Mobile in the seed - make them use the same fucking frequencies 800/850/1800/1900 would work for me - and fucking be over it.

So its for the same reason they do the FPS - because its pure fantasy being a golf pro, basketball player, super soldier ...etc...

Its good that the Wii provides SOME mobility though...its better than some people would normally get.

Now...regarding the wife f*cking. If there was a Wii interface for the PC, I am sure that someone would have written a invented a virtual f*cking game where you clip the controller to your belt or...something. In fact, I would not be suprised if someone is not working on that game now.

As for early termination fees increasing, that's what gets you nice phones for cheap. I don't really see a problem with these fees since they are making phones more affordable given that you would have a phone plan anyway.

The pisser is that I want to BUY the phone by itself...and then be able to go to whatever provider I wanted. "Cheap phones" be damned! They should be clear about how much the phone is subsidized...and for how long...and make that as an "adder" to the normal monthly charge. You can either BUY a Droid for $550 outright and have a $40/mo bill...or get it for "Free" and pay an addl $28/month for 24 months (threw in some interest to boot). If you cancel after 12 months, then you owe 12*28, or $336.

But that makes too much sense...carriers would never go for that.

Plenty of people are whinging on about Orwell...Big Brother...ad nauseum. Do people not understand the concept of what identification is and why we need it? Your drivers licence has become so much more than just a "drivers licence." Hell - when you buy beer they "ID" you. If the cops want to talk to you, often they do the same thing - check your ID so they know that you are who you say you are. What is the alternative? Everyone running around saying their name is "Nunya Bizness"?

Personally, I am for a national ID system - and a national ID card. Verify social security numbers and biometric data (and even DNA) - and unless govt screws the pooch - identity theft is a thing of the past. Mistaken identity is a thing of the past. Illegal aliens using false ID is a thing of the past. Hell - sequence DNA from a string of serial rapes and crossreference - does not scare me in the least! And dont be so droll as to think that cops are going to be pinning crimes on John Q Innocent because he matches 80%...they are going to investigate just as they would any other crime. Are there going to be some false positives? Of course there will be - just like there is in standard police investigations.

Some people really need to stay off the pipe - makes yah paranoid!
