P.S.- that's a BADASS song. SOAD was the band I didn't want to like ("Oh, thats Nu-metal. I'm too olde sk00l for that") but a few MP3's changed my mind (like their Legend of Zelda song!)
But, when I got to the US, getting a licence over there was ridiculously easy by comparison.
Getting a license in the UK is a very difficult (and sometimes expensive) thing. There was an article about the dispairty a few years ago in (I believe) the Washington Post...
Don't get me wrong, there is a theoretical test in some US states(Well, multiple choice). If you go through drivers ed (lots of theoretics, lots of driving practice, including emergency stuff and changing a tire, etc.) you can get your "Senior" license early (at least in NY state) and my test not only had a three point turn but me parallel parking against an expensive sports car (you REALLY don't want to mess up!). But NJ and MD have you taking a drivers test in a PARKING LOT. Yep. How is that a test of driving skill?
I've got nothing but venom for Northwest and this comes as no shock to me.
I've got inlaws in Grand Forks, ND and Northwest gives me nothing but grief at every turn. Heck, I've even seen them arrest a mother of 3 on CRUTCHES Dec 20/21, 2000 at MSP airport... why? She had been in the airport for 10+ hours (obviously the Mesaba operated puddle jumper to Grand Forks was cancelled because their decrepit fleet is falling apart) and may or may not have surenndered her boarding pass, leaving her with just a stub, which was apparently not good enough to get on the BUS they chartered for us to Grand Forks... so yeah, they jailed the crippled mom right before Christmas.
In the meantime, every flight I've taken on Northwest has been punctuated by delays due to their fleet falling apart at the seams, and I only bring carry-on luggage now, because I'm tired of getting my bags lost.
Even the flights I get for free I feel cheated on!
I thought the core idea of IBM on-demand computing was having a box with 12 processors, but you are only paying for 4. Then, during a particularly busy time, your CPU usage goes way up- 80%. You then have the flexibility of having other CPU's "turn on" to meet the load... think of it as being able to handle a slashdotting dynamically ('cept with CPU, not bandwitdh).
When the counterfeit deterrence system detects an attempt to access a currency image, it aborts the operation, displays a warning message and directs the user to a website with information on international counterfeiting laws.
Everyone complained about the airlines getting bail-outs of government money. Well, now they're really going to need them.
Hopefully, on the positive side, now that everyone with half a brain has decided to stop flying in protest, I'll be able to get those cheap seats to Cancun! Viva La Dumbass!
P.S.- I break things. Its what I do best. This goes for hardware, software, clothing, bags, you name it, I stress it. My Handspring Visor? Has a Titanium case that costs more than the handspring. It too has been dropped. Sony Sport walkmen were a running joke through my childhood.
The plus side is that I've turned my "skill" into a lucrative career with Integration and Test!
I bought a Toshiba 3110CT laptop right when they were getting phased out so I saved some bucks. I sunk $300 for 3-year warranty support.
I dropped the laptop while it had a wifi card sticking out of it. PCMCIA slot now can't register any cards. Brought it in to the Warranty shop, they gave me a new motherboard. 1 day turn-around time.
Dropped again, Harddrive died. Asked for a a new harddrive and they did it while I waited.
I've had quite clueful comcast tech support. A level 1 on the phone gave me a tip saying "hey, there may be a problem in your area. I'll schedule you for some maintenance. They won't show up for a few weeks, but this will get the problem flagged and they may get a tech out tonight."
Lo and behold, my internet was back later that night. Weeks later while shoveling the driveway after a bad snow, the Comcast van pulls up! I say " Oh hey, everything is working fine!"
Now, as for the actual install- they sent it in the mail, I did it all myself (I already had the cable).
I had to call some tech-support guys in Swanwick (you don't pronounce the second 'w') to re-load some data I accidentally RM'd- and I know he was speaking the Queens english but I'll be DAMNED if I understood a word of it. Mind you, I find Scottish brogue to be charming and sometimes understandable, but this fellow made Cockney sound like the AT&T computer operator voice.
On a differnet note I called other tech support (this time in Florida) and tried to figure out how I could print from our ol' VM system. We were on the phone for 45 minutes, I tuned him out after 15 and just did screen captures and cut and pastes because he obviously had no idea what he was talking about, but sure had a lot of ideas. He seemed genuinely proud of the work he had just done for me, too! I hadn't the heart to tell him I did it the cut and paste way.
Insightful observation on Lego providing a low barrier of entry for those who are role players/dreamers, and a "Designer Set" for the budding engineer/architect.
I'd say by the quality content of your post "you must be new here!" but your low UID proves otherwise.
I just got an email from comcast saying "we've upgraded your broadband connection at no extra charge! Just unplug your cablemodem, wait 60 seconds, and then reconnect!"
Has anyone else gotten one of these? Maybe its just my area got an upgrade, but it seems you and I have far different ISPs.
Disassemble the app, find the "find the currency" algorithm, force it to noop or branch always around the check, and you are done. Yep, if you know assembly, the world is your oyster.
Or do they think that crackers don't exist?
This isn't going to stop REAL counterfeiters, this is just going to raise the bar for entry. In my mind, that's not a bad idea. Considering that if you print up dollar bills with your face on it and say "vote for me!" for a middle-school student election will get the FBI on you *, this may be a good thing. It will stop average joes from getting hassled by the FBI and wasting the FBI's time.
*-actually, the link is about an Econ project, not about an election. Still, its pretty funny in that "our country is going down the tubes!" way.
I just want my next car stereo to have a normal stereo jack input. So you'll be getting the Aiwa then. (although I'm sure some others have 'em).
The rest have RCA inputs in the back. On install, you can connect an RCA to 1/8 inch adapter, and have it exposed on the passenger side. Then, connect, select AUX in, and there you go.

Thats a clear analogy that was easy to understand. I don't think you have a future in selling technology. ;)

Then you might spot the dupes before they happen!
Or get enough friends to back you up when you dupe!

That sure beats a Goatse redirect.

so funny! Did you think that one up all by yourself? News for Nerds indeed, NERD.

Its hard to see the screen when its in a bag.

Best money I ever spent.
Hate to say I told you so!
Yes, it IS hard being right all the time.
To do: short sell SCO...
yeah, and have flavors, too!

Yet another reason to Love Carly Fiorina. Apparently HP still knows a thing or two about good engineering; even if its someone else's engineering.
No doubt! I'm CERTAIN they throttle me during prime-time.

yeah, finding a free audio converter is some HARD stuff! And the AAC audio codecs! Impossible! Especially with google!

Just my 2 dollars.
Inflations a bitch, ain't it?
Whoa! He's right!@
