I've never had to force any search engine to do my bidding. The domain for my site is pretty unique so it is really easy to search on. One word pretty much brings up everything on the site.
On the other hand, if you're a business looking to get some traffic to your site a search engine can be a great place to start. Especially a popular one like google. I would be very tempted to do the same thing to get my sites near the top if they weren't already there.
Okay, before all you blurt out the obvious by saying it is not possible, read the articles. It is possible under certain circumstances.
It comes down to how your devices react to incoming and outgoing data. Some devices will pulse out the contents of your data packet, while others will just blink your LED on whenever a packet is passed through. This can yield totally different results. One is that they can reconstruct the information. The other is that the only thing they can see is that a packet was just moved.
per page??? sorry no. as difficult as it would be to stay away from slashdot there is no way i will pay to read slashdot. especially on a per page basis. I might be more willing for a flat rate.
For slashdot I think this will be brutal on them. I look around and see who is the typical reader. The only paying people are going to be those who are really interested in paying for things. The trolls are not going to pay. And a lot of the linux die hard won't either. A lot of them believe in free (as in beer) rather than the other way around and won't fork out.
one of the people I work with has a water cooled athlon system. He was worried about the same thing. Pesky Leak. He looked at the inside of the case and looked to see what would get dripped on if it sprung a leak. There was alot. But, if you tipped the tower on its side the only thing water would hit would be the plastic door. So that's what he did. He runs his tower on the side *just in case.*
The only problem that he had so far was scummy water. Something was growing inside the system. Fixed that pronto.
it's not the content of the letter that is the questonable part. It's just that there seems to be a lot of leaked letters of late. The whole letter 'to me' seems to be written by an outsider portraying how 'just about every linux user' feels what a MS sale exec would be like.
just crack the data center. cracking into the data center would quit possible actually be the easiest. If you consider that most people would more than likely electrocute themselve trying to cut the power. HVAC, most people don't even know what it is. Where as sitting down at your computer and cracking the system would be far easier. At least in terms of actually trying. Whether your successful or not is another factor altogether.
It can't really be serving off of that board. I mean, slashdotters can 'slashdot' even highend equipment. Yet, a Pentium 100 with only 64 megs is taking the punishment???
No, you do not need ANY fiber in a house. At least not any time soon. You will be fine with Cat5e. Depending on what the cable is specced at you whould be able to easily upgrade to a Gigabit system down the road on the same cable. So no, you don't need any expensive fiber equipment.

It's not that Linux users are smart, it's more that you easily forget what you didn't know when you were a newbie. This makes it difficult to explain simple things such as emptying a trash can for someone who has never done it before.

Okay, I'm going to be going half way off topic so mod me if you must.
The issue I'm going to deal with pertains to what is Global Warming and what humans have to do with it.
Many people lately, mostly hardcore environmentalists and unlearned individuals have lumped our industrialized ways and its byproducts as what causes Global Warming. This is not the case. Industrialization has nothing to do with what Global Warming is. I will explain.
For starters, Global Warming is a climatic effect that deals with how our planet traps energy from the sun and keeps us warm. (in the very basic sense) Various gasses and particles in our atmosphere are what help the effect. The main contributers being CO2 and 'dust' particles. When you remove 'man' from the model and work with the Global Warming model, it can be shown to be a very represenative model of how one aspect of our climate works. The base model of Global Warming, as a theory, is fairly well rooted.
The more recent definition of Global Warming has evolved into something far more than what it really is. Extremists have taken a sound model and twisted it into something that they can 'fear monger' with. The phrase 'Global Warming' implies warming, but that isn't always the case in the Global Warming model. Now it includes everything from industrial waste, power plants, and SUV's.
The real puzzle isn't whether Global Warming as a theory is true, but rather what is the effect on the Global warming model by man? As far as we know so far, we NEED Global Warming. Without it we would be living far colder than the Eskimos.
So please, before you try and argue that Global Warming is bad or that we need to stop it, PLEASE or PLEASE figure out what the hell it is first. Hint, it usually isn't what your favorite movie star says it is.
It isn't that anyone doesn't think global warming as a natural occurance isn't possible, it's whether or not we, as humans, have somehow drastically changed or altered the affect of it. The 'eco-weenies' have for years tried to shove off inconlusive data as facts to promote their environmental agenda. Some of it I agree with, some of it I don't.
Proxy records in the Southern ice cap show that there has been drastic CO2 changes in earths history. It has cycled up and down, up and down, without human interaction. After CO2 levels reached a certain peak, the onset of an ice age was near. Shortly after words it occured and Co2 levels would drop. Currently, we are on such a peak. Extremists argue that it was caused by us. However, going back to the proxy records, they show that we were already on a trend that would lead to high CO2 levels. This trend dates back far before the Industrial Age. Previous peaks have been even higher in earths history.
So, have we contributed to the CO2 level, more than likely. Will it have any ill affects to our planet, probably not. Anyone who can conclusivly say one way or the other is lying through their teeth. If it had been figured out all ready there wouldn't be this ongoing debate.
Probably the first 'hack' or 'mod' I would do to it would be to replace the stock motors with some lower count wound motors and a set of custom battery pack to handle the increased load.
Imaginations and media hype, that's all it was. After all, only only a few people knew what it was. Everyone else was just speculating.

Seeing as how so many people are ridiculing this device already and saying how they wouldn't be caught dead on one, I thought that I would point out an interesting use that one person I know has already pointed out. Handicapped use. Strap a vertical seat on it and you could allow a great many handicapped persons to have vertical mobility in a 'very' compact unit. (compared to a typical wheel chair.)
It wasn't ever meant to be hyped like this. Kamen never intended for 'blabber mouths' to leak information about his project. Imaginations run wild when you don't know what something will be and people get false expectations. His invention seem to fall in line with today's technology and what is currently do-able. Everything else was just wild speculation.

According to the main segway site, segway.com, the motors are indeed wound. (Not sure how you could make an unwound motor?)

Probably the first 'hack' or 'mod' I would do to it would be to replace the stock motors with some lower count wound motors and a set of custom battery pack to handle the increased load.
