At the risk of a -1 Redundant, thanks for the link. That was really interesting and very cool. And ... on topic!! Surely this spells the end of Slashdot!

I agree wholeheartedly. Pardon my French, but upon getting about halfway through the story, I thought "Oh man, not these fucks again..."

Ass clowns like PanIP need to ... have something hideously painful and violent done to them. It's late, I can't be any more creative than that.

Hahahaha.... NO. What bigger motivation is there for some misguided soul to go buck wild and compromise that server? People will be running remote code as root, hoping to get this shiny new software. Er, no thanks. The review doesn't mention it, but there HAS to be a better way to install it than this.

  18. WalMart PC? feh. on Microsoft foils Xbox hackers with new Config · · Score: 3, Insightful

The problem is that $200 hardware from WalMart is exactly that -- $200. It's probably (now this is just a guess) full of cut rate components. Where as from numerous postings of its components across the net, we know that the X-box contains some pretty decent hardware. Also, it's being sold below cost (or at least it -was-), so the worth of the components is actually > $200.

  19. Haha, News 12... on New Yorkers Get a Taste of Digital Restrictions · · Score: 2

I've often said the only time anyone watches News 12 (or reads Newsday, for that matter) is because they know they're going to be on/in it. We've only been keeping Basic cable to get a couple bucks knocked off our Optimum Online bill (I -think-). And yup, we use DirecTV. I won't mention the fact that there's *still* nothing to watch.. whoops.

As the overnight guy on a classic rock station, I usually hit up some Red Bull to keep myself going. Especially when some shifts end at 2a and then begin again at 6a. You've got to love your job when you work hours like that. From what I hear though some kids dies from drinking a lot of highly caffinated drinks (may be an urban legend) so I try to limit it to one or two a night. Nothing worse than keeling over in the middle of a stopset...
