    We always knew we were relying on MS Typography's generosity, and that these could disappear at any time.

    I hadn't heard about these fonts until a few weeks ago, and up until then never used them. Somehow I've survived. However, I agree that we need better fonts/font support in Linux, but if you've played with a recent copy of Mozilla or Galeon/XFT/Artwiz Fonts lately, things have come a long way.

    I don't think I can curl up with an I-Paq and get any studying done. The left side of a book is designed so you can rest your head on it and read the right side. Then you fall asleep. Falling asleep on a I-Paq = time for a new I-Paq.

    I have to agree. I was an MT devotee for a while, but got tired of no new material. I realize I wasn't paying for it, didn't buy an t-shirts or anything... but I started reading MT because it was funny/interesting/fresh .. a few weeks of sketches and no story was enough to make me decide I wasn't into it. Penny Arcade on the other hand...

    A mention of IBM's facility in Endicott brought back some memories... okay, granted they were only from a few months back, but before I graduated from SUNY Binghamton, I used to drive through the facilities there a lot. The ominous stone wall with INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES in small block letters really gives one a sense of nostaglia. Upstate NY is sort of a black hole when it comes to corporate enterprise and culture, maybe if some more businesses get the idea that it's cheap to operate there, the southern tier and capital city area will see some sort of renaissance. Right now, the only reason I would go to Albany is Mahar's Public Bar... I love me some Magic Hat!

    I never like to "me too" on a comment, but Gentoo is perhaps the finest, easiest to use distro I've ever used -- and I've tried more than I'd care to admit..

    Slack -> RedHat -> Suse -> Mandrake -> Slack -> Gentoo

    Gentoo's emerge is a stroke of genius. Build your system from the bottom and then install what -you- want.

    A slight nitpick from even a devout linux user -- you can 'easily' remotely admin a windows box with pcanywhere ($$$) or tightvnc...just a thought as I see lots of comments mentioning remote administation...

    My cousin reviewed this book a couple months ago.. although if I recall correctly he said there was no sex in it... which in this case was a good thing, I guess. Anyway, you can check out review for a slightly more insane take on this book if you just can't get enough.
