A year ago I tried to use the Dvorak keyboard layout, but later gave up when I needed to type a lot of things and couldn't handle typing at 30 wpm. In order to learn dvorak, I had switch all the keys on my keyboard to match the layout. I was already not looking at the keyboard, but now there was no way for even my peripheral vision to look at the keyboard. I can't say it improved by typing speed that much (maybe 5-10%) but my dependence on seeing the keyboard has been completely removed.
Oh on another note, I recently noticed that I hit the CTRL key (it's a regular keyboard, with the ctrl key on the bottom left, not where the caps lock is) with the knuckle of my left pinky... somehow I started doing this and didn't even notice. Does anyone else do this?
Since I had moderator points, I wanted to read all the crap that gets posted and see if there was anything that needed to be modded up. I was very dissapointed to hardly see *anything* relevant to the topic other than lame jokes.
I think that this will be good for users. Both companies have something to gain by there being less spam, and thus it will help both companies bottom lines to get rid of it.
What I hope they *don't* do (since both companies are large) is throw money at the problem and hope it gets fixed.
I think this is a good day for the internet in general!
the trick to not getting owned (I play on the hardest level) is to get take all your money from trading early on and make a small army. Then go over to the incas. Also, planning your cities, only have Max 2-3 cities on the water and every else inland to support those bigger coastal cities.
Are you serious? I played Alpha Centauri once and thought it was cool - however it never had the staying power. ie I would never play it again.
Now Colonization, *That's* another story. If anyone liked the civ series, and has never played Colonization, you MUST. I've met a few other people that also agree that Colonization is one of the best. This game was made in 96 I believe, and I still pull it up and play once a year!
Its a company that does something to provide a service. Just because you don't like what they do or think they should be making money for it, doesn't mean that they shouldn't exist.
See I think this patent model is a flawed model - all this company does is buy up patents that they think they can apply to current companies and leech from their profits.
The fucked jam here is that patents can be submarined for years until someone else develops your product profitably, and then you can sue them bowlegged. It doesn't matter to RIM whether it's NTP doing the suing.
To me it matters. I would feel better about the world if a company that did something real was suing RIM. Obviously business doesn't run on ideologies, but I think this is just part of the litegous society we've created for ourselves.
I find the 'patent holding company' to be very counterproductive. Patents should be owned by companies creating products, like they were originally intended. Companies like NTP (correct me if i'm wrong) are made solely to find other companies to sue due to infringement. The company doesn't actually DO anything other than sue other companies right?
I'm glad Canada is stepping and saying "this sucks." Though I'm a diehard palm user, it would be a shame to see a company lose a significant chunk of their profits to a bullshit company like NTP.
I've had a few friends that have wanted to join me in playing this game (yes, it's quite good). They can't find it anywhere. Obviously supply is better in the US, but in Canada it's quite hard to find
You know, although I'm a big computer user, and I've been an avid gamer since I was 13, I don't think I would let my kids (if/when I have them) use the computer as I did. I would sign them up for sports and keep them outside as much as possible!
Yes, this has been happening for years, and somehow the media companies will have to figure out a way to make money. The problem is simple - when you donwload a show, the media companies don't know that you are watching. Family Guy is a good example of this - a lot of people love this show, but almost none of them (that I know) actually watched it on TV. Though we definitely all have our mpegs...
Palm has me as a loyal customer, pretty much forever. Not only do I like their design and their OS, I also like their customer service. A few years back I brought a palm IIIc, and it had a screen problem, so a new one was given to me. Then, the same one, 7 months later had a faulty screw, and they gave me another.
These both happened to be known issues to them, and they gave me a new one with no questions asked. I'm not surprised at this move at all.
Everyone is going to be different here, but I go on number of hours per *day* rather than per week. I find I can work 10 hours per day, up to 12 if the work is easy on the brain and keep going. If I go beyond that, I need a day off every 5 or less the longer I work.
Important for me is to get my sleep. If I'm working long enough that I can't get close to 8 hours, my useful working time goes down rapidly. Next most important is to get at least a couple of hours away doing something else - a game, movie, book etc. By the time you add your travel time, eating, etc you have 12 hours max useful work time.
I agree with a loot that you say, except the "close to 8 hours' thing. I haven't gotten 8 hours of sleep on a work day/skule day in... ever.
I'd assume it is the same for most people here... 5.5-6.5 hours max.
See I've heard the exact opposite, though I'm not the one who sees the coin. I heard they actually get quarterly bonuses, which is pretty amazing considering the status quo.
I just saw a lecture about outsourcing in one of my grad courses, and the guest lecturer mentioned farmsourcing as a trend that was thought to be as cost effective as sending it overseas.
Maybe they'll come up with a term for sending your company to Canada too! Northsourcing?
As someone who plays music, I would be appalled to find out that a band who's concert I went to used an autotuner, since I feel it misrepresents their abilities. Sure, in the studio, it's fine to use whatever you want (although I think there is a difference in the integrity of the artist) but live, I go to be impressed by the skill and musicianship of the artist. To find out someone used an autotuner would make me feel like their talent was misrepresented.
I dont have the link handy so I cant give it to you, but when I was applying to universities in Canada, I saw a ranking that put University of Toronto fifth in north america for Electrical and Computer Engineering departments, with Waterloo at around ninth. In fourth place was Cornell I believe.
but if people are going to fight, the faster its over the better, in my mind. Maybe I'm mistaken?
I think that if you have super fast battles (read: anti tank missles against a house, or carpet bombing) people end up forgetting that there are real people on the other side. The slower it is (and the more they see), the more people remember that war is dumb. Things are only getting faster, unfourtunately.
It is completely valid to take DNA and fingerprints from someone in the military, since they are going to be trained beyond what a regular citizen will be.
Imagine if we had no information whatsoever on a Special Operations soldier who retires and decides to lead a life of crime.
hey epine, I havn't played in years, but i'd be interested in knowing other things you've learned through playing. I've played A+A hundreds of times and have lost twice.

Perhaps the DVD profits made up for it?

>Middle management's first and only answer to each new day in business: fire hundreds of people, preferably by entire departments.
If you think middle management is firing entire departments you have a lot to learn about business.
I had always thought I typed around 60 WPM until I took a test and found I was anywhere between 80-105.
My question to the speed demons out there, is this:
Any of you use wireless keyboards, and get annoyed that you type faster than it can respond? Or did I just get a crappy wireless keyboard? =)
mat,.

From Hamilton to Kingston, from Barrie to Windsor. NYC all the way to Detroit.
There are multiple power stations in this area, does anyone have any information how they could all not be transmitting power?
Anyone know anything about the power outage going on throughout New York, Detroit, and Most of Ontario?

This feels wrong. It would all make more sense if they were doing this with MSN 8.0 which costs 9.95 a month...
There has to be some new user tracking code or something hidden within the new version that would warrant them working this hard to upgrade everyone.
