  1. This is news? on Crossplatform iTunes Sharing and Trading · · Score: 2, Interesting

Isn't this just a slow version of iTunes pre-version 4.5 with MyTunes? I haven't downloaded it but i've been using myTunes to download music off of my school network for months. Its an amazing source of files(depending what network youre on).

  2. slow-waker on SF Author Robert J. Sawyer Looks at 2014 · · Score: 1

Wow, why don't they have those gradual wake-up machines today? Waking up is soo painful for me, but i can't to sleep until noon every day! Are these under development? Most of the rest of this article seems pretty infeasable, except for the very rich.

Hasn't the education sector been in need of teachers for years? That problem doesn't seem to be going anywhere. True, teachers don't start at great salaries but the benefits are awesome after, say, 20 years.
Either way, i'm majoring in cognitive science because CS is definately too popular. People in my major seem to have much more passion for it; its widely applicable to many fields; and i see lots of potential for growth in the area. I don't really see that in computer science, and i can appreciate it with a degree.

  5. Re:Vastly important on Is Typing a Necessary Skill? · · Score: 1

I had typing in the eigth grade and it was by far one of the worst classes i ever had. I already new how to type from growing up with computers(which is much more common for kids nowadays), so instead of typing up my assignments I just went into my less-lazy classmates folders and copied them. Eventually they realized to put in the least bit of security on the network and so i stopped doing everything altogether. I believe I got a 30% in that class, but now I can type 85WPM @ %99 accuracy. Obviously i was an irreverent 13 year old, but i still don't understand why my teacher pulled me out if class to ask if i was doing drugs because i kept yelling out in class the evils of microsoft!

BTW, i'm not a troll, i'm just curious.

Also the nice thing about immigrating to the US is that you keep your old citizenship. But who cares, college will be incredibly cheap and it looks like i'll have some job security to look forward to!

  14. Great Idea! on Atlantis: Discovered at Last? · · Score: 1

Now the little guys can spend endless amounts of money on a meaningless race much as the U.S. and Russia did for space. "Who is the first to discover Atlantis in their country" is the 21st century way of drawing attention away from more important current events and to secure a re-election!

  15. Re:Nuclear power isn't all that bad on Creator of the Gaia Hypothesis Urges Nuclear Power · · Score: 1

It's not neccessarily the environmental risks that are the problem.. And i live about half an hour away from Three Mile Island. I think the most unappealing aspect of nuclear power is the price. In the 70's the government said it would only cost a few million dollars to build another nearby plant, when in fact they went overbudget by a factor of at least 10. For that price, the state could have bought every house a solar panel and the pooled energy would be plenty to power the area for a fraction of the price.

  17. Re:MiB3 on I, Robot Trailer Available · · Score: 4, Interesting

I think this title is perfectly suited to the plot. To denote one's self as 'I' is implying that one has a consciousness, as the robots in this movie have been developed to have. This is, of course, dependent on your own conception of consciousness.

Yeah, this is a great publicity stunt for re-election. What makes you think this is the real saddam, and not a look-alike? Saddam is considered captured and thus is free to live the rest of his life, and Bush gets credibility for capturing the guy. I wanna see DNA evidence, pronto. Bush will do anything to get re-elected, and that is why we need more than 1/3 of the population to vote next fall to boot his ass out of office.

  20. Re:Why must my government stymy me again and again on Canadians [Will] Pay Levy on MP3 Players - Updated · · Score: 1

Do you think the amount of money the music industry is losing is equal to that which will be gained by the CD/MP3 player levy? Of course not, so the industry is just trying to make up for some of the cash it's already lost by investing in laws that will help maintain the power they already have. They'll still try to go after the pirates if they can, if it means they'll get to keep even more cash.

All i've wanted since i moved to canada was a cheap pack of smokes, and i ain't getting one of those until i go back to the u.s. Live with your problems or else find a way to circumvent them!

  23. Re:Special Effects on Hitchhiker's Guide Movie Greenlighted · · Score: 1

I personally loved the original series. It followed the story with little abberation and the BBC effects make it much more likeable than a cold hollywood flick. I think the actors were quite well suited for the roles and they pulled it off well. As for Red Dwarf, i don't know what those guys are doing now, but they certainly have been going downhill since series 7(isn't there supposed to be a feature RD movie as well?)

  24. Re:and this my friends is why on The Computational Requirements for the Matrix · · Score: 1

The computer only needs to simulate what people can see--since the simulation is for people, anything else with a brain(or without) is merely a prop. Anything not in sight goes from the machines ram into storage, and i'm sure not every atom must be simulated.. equations describe our environment, and they can be applied to this simulation as they are in real life. This brings up the question... does a tree falling in the woods make a noise? Answer: NO, it doesn't deserve the proccessing power to be simulated. stop asking.
