I work at a store, and I'll tell you.. This will NOT work. Just asking for a drivers license number gets most people huffy. Fingerprints? No way.. Unless check is the only form of payment in your store, this will not work.
JabberWokky, I think you are mistaken. The word "Frag" was included in the scoring of Doom, which came out in December 1992. I ran my BBS until late 1994.
Kazaa isn't illegal. Trading copywrited songs is, yes. But I can trade copywrited songs over HTTP also. Should they block that?
I really don't see the point in doing what RR is.. There is a way around *everything*.
They already had a press release stating they would charge customers more money if they exceeded a monthly download quota. Is blocking Kazaa required? It seems redundant to me.
If you choose AOL, you are given a local-network style IP address.
I don't know what the term is offhand (Class C? Crap I dunno.. I'm a hardware tech).
But this address cannot be routed through a typical Linksys-type home branded router. This isn't the case if you ask them for RR instead of AOL Broadband.

Electronic Music 101?

· Score: 1
I'd mod it up, but alas the ModerationGods(tm) have not appointed me in what seems to be eons.
Shoutcast is an excellent way to come accross new electronic bands. There's sooo much crap out there, and electronica is very rarely pimped by the media. I like to find a good station, listen to it for a bit and then research the songs I like. If I find a couple tunes by a specific group that are good, I'll throw fifteen or twenty bucks their way for the CD.
I can't be the only one doing this..
The RIAA is making a really bad decision in it's recent actions regarding streaming audio. People that steal music will steal it regardless of how much of a pain in the ass it is. But you piss off your paying customers, you're screwed.
Yes, I have used Kazaa Lite, and it works wonderfully. It is 100% identical as far as I can tell, except for the fake cydoor DLL, and a different logo.
I'll take the white towers over the yellow/gray airborne matter covering the horizon, thank you. =)

I use Samba daily it home and at work. Of course it means something to me, Troll.
Samba is great stuff... Congrats Andrew!
If caching becomes a big enough bandwidth problem for Google, I'm sure they would put ads in there.
There are heavier vehicles out there. Maybe he's a geek like me and just thinks the car is way cool =D
Who mentioned the 80's?
See my above post.. Anyways, "Frag" for me came from Doom. 1992. I think the term was in Wolfenstien, actually, but wasn't popular until Doom.

The top MP3 was a referance recording so you know what the original sounded like. The 3 after were the ones he extrapolated.
I use Kazaa Lite (Make sure to use the Lite version, do a google.com search for it--no spyware in Lite)
Or Gnucleus is very nice too.
Don't know about Linux clients, as my linux box is 100% server. 150 days of uptime Gawd I love my linux box. Like a rock I tell ya.
ROFL. THank you, that made my day.
Mod this shit +5 Funny =)
Never heard of it.. but looks extremely gay.
IRC is quote wonderful as well for this purpose.
In Raleigh, NC we have zero blocked ports on Roadrunner. (Fingers crossed)

BLocking a port in this can't wouldn't work, would it? Or, does Kazaa just use one port?
I was under the impression it used several dynamically, but I may be wrong.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh!
Contra flashbacks!
Yes, the program and codec will work.. If you assume the operating system and the computer hardware are that run it are still around of course.

Yes, a 404 error. You're right, very low quality. Thank you.
There are 50 useful responses to the thread, all helpful but yours. If you don't like the thread.. move on.
Seriously.. You took two minutes out of your life to bitch about something you could've easily skipped and forgotten about in half a second.
If your using it for backups.. who cares if it's an orphan format, as long as you can still purchase the media/drive.
