  1. Tired of ICANN on Neither .Kids Nor .Porn For ICANN · · Score: 2
okay I'm tired of ICANN to the point where I think we need to make our own free distributed dns system. I think I've said this before, but USENET has the right idea with cataloging newsgroups. I think this model in itself is what we should follow. news.slashdot is pretty explanatory to the point that you'd have to be Jon Katz not to get what the site contained. The possibilites would be endless, but I see a need for a domain system like this becoming more and more apparent as I have to pay $40 to have dugnet.com. I would have much rather just pointed to an ip through personal.dugnet ... see how easy this would be to arrange?

I'm more than willing to help with this project if anyone else is interested in joining, making a team, or humoring me :-)

3D Linux is not only the next step it's probably the future of computers in the next 10 years. Think about it. We have peripheral vision and sound. And we can move our heads quite easily. Look at how much of our senses we're wasting when using a standard computer. I know none of these projects are designing the WM for VR helmets or any VR hardware for that matter, but wouldn't that be the next step? Basically all you need is alot of processing power and memory and the 3D computer world becomes the world that you like and don't want to go back from ... ever.

I don't know who will actually read this, but my first programming experiences were at the age 9 with an Apple IIe. Apple has a perfect beginners programming program. Basically you bought software or you made software. That's what I loved about the Apple II. Just because I learned how to program Basic and even more indepth High-Resolution Basic. Doesn't mean I immmediatelly moved to the mac and began programming on that just because apple made it.

Next I moved into the Dos/win3.1 world and found QBasic which was alot like apple except for the graphics end and also had a large user group and nice documentation. Hence I began to take my knowledge of Apple IIe's Basic and program on QBasic.

After a while I found HTML. Like Basic this language was easy and had pleanty of documentation for it. So I started creating webpages. Then along came CGI and JavaScript. So my webpages began to do all kinds of neat things.

Now that I'm in college I'm learning C++. And I'm making programs for not only win32, but also Linux and BeOS ...

So your theory that "Learn on MS always use MS" really doesn't hold much water with me.

Hypothetical ... but what would happen if the windows source code was released onto the internet ... (ie DeCSS) ... even if it was deemed illegal and the distributors were arrested ... the code would still live on and become what might be the downfall of MS.

Think about it ... not a rogue OS based off of MS code ... but thousands upon thousands of exploits would turn up thus any computer connected to the internet through a (sarcasm) "secure" internet connection would now be at risk.

Another hypothetical ... company A comes out with a product that can run all win32 binaries... this os is based off of the source code of windows but is a closed source project. This project is then suspected by MS ... but it would take illegal reverse engineering or a court warrent to confirm ... thus another downfall to MS.

One more question I have ... If MS is SOOO concerned about their code ... why the hell is it so easy to remote access it?
