I rather like the really small form factor. Given that it comes with OS X Server (which costs $499 by itself), I think it's a pretty decent deal for those who want an OS X Server machine for a small office.
Me too. I don't see this becoming hugely popular as any business with a large IT department can just throw together a small server if that is what they need but I can see that this mini server hits the sweet spot for a fair number of small businesses.
I -really- like the ribbon bar in Office 2007 so it will be hard to part with it.
I do not like it. I hate it very much. My method for learning a program is to go through each menu bar item and read the list of actions that are available to me and then click on the interesting ones. The ribbon bar makes this a pain. I have to mouse over each icon to read the tooltip which describes what the button does. Maybe the ribbon gets easier to use over time but I still hate it.
Of course, the older versions of Office had half the items in the menus hidden by default which annoyed me to no end. And the hidden items were the ones that I don't use very often so I don't know exactly where they are so hunting for them is that much more frustrating.
Not if they're more heavily reflecting UV and IR light.
So you are saying that if I'm sitting in my car and I have a TV with a Wii on the hood of my car the sensor bar won't work? I am not standing for this type of legislation! we are being ruled by tyrants who want nothing more than to take away our freedom to play video games in the type of setting that WE choose!
Not that I really condone the piracy of all software and media.
I agree. I wouldn't recommend that anyone pirate Microsoft Access. Ever. For any reason. At all! No reason at all. Believe me, don't touch Microsoft Access. Just let it die. Please?
2 - Maybe, if you call customer service and bitch.
Oh, and I am very good at calling customer services and bitching. I spent a summer once working at a call centre and I know how effective someone bitching can be.
There are two steps to bitching. State very clearly what you want. Just say what you want and ask them to give it to you. If they care why you want it then they will ask. If that doesn't work, ask to speak to the manager. Again, state what it is that you want them to do for you. If this doesn't work, then again, try to escalate to someone with more authority. Cry if you need to.
4 - You'll get a crappy web page or PDF with more health and safety warnings and "how to press the power button" information than actual game-relevant content.
And I will read that crappy web page in hope of getting useful information. I have a well developed skill of skimming and I can skim an instruction booklet taking note of the important information very quickly. Much quicker then the stupid tutorial most games these days make you play at the beginning. And the tutorial totally breaks the feel of the game right from the beginning.
I wonder if they'll "upgrade" it like the PSP so you can get to repurchase your older games through DLC?
I am guessing that they are watching people's reaction to Sony's decision to drop physical media and depending on the reaction, make their decision.
I don't think that Nintendo will go that route. Think of the Wii. They have old games for sale on the Virtual Console and they could have put Gamecube games on there too but instead they chose to fully* support old Gamecube games.
I am not sure if I want to give up physical media just yet. I would like to be able to bring all my games around with me without having to carry a bunch of cases. For me to switch completely to digital game distribution I would like the following
Loan / borrow / trade games with friends
Not be forced to rebuy all my games when I lose / break my gaming console
The game should be cheaper because there is "no" shipping cost, no store taking their cut and no physical material being produced
I want an instruction booklet dammit! I RTM and I don't care what anyone says but I want an instruction booklet. A digital one will do just fine.
It can't play GBA games, which were obsolete years ago. Oh noes!
There are quite a few DS games that use the GBA slot, you know. Either to add a peripheral, or to unlock bonus material in the game.
Which ones? I am only aware of Guitar Hero and the Opera browser. Guitar Hero is crap because of the tin can sound (which is only more noticeable when wearing nice headphones) and the Opera browser is replaced on the DSi.
Remember that when the DSi was released it got a ton of flak for not supporting these two "games" (and maybe a few more that I am not aware of).
I'm not sure where you get the idea we're more social. Both members of genus Pan are highly socialized (pygmy chimps are probably more socialized than humans are).
Umm... Do they have Facebook? I thought not. So obviously they are even less social than me.
So what Shuttleworth is saying is that we are all slow and need to start talking faster. Once everyone has mastered fast speech it will be the year of the linux desktop.
How long will it be before someone turns the page in the news paper and Jimbo from Jimbo's Used Cars and Ammo starts screaming about his amazing auto deals (free ammo with every car!) in a VERY LOUD OBNOXIOUS TONE?
No need for Flashblock, just read with a hammer next to you.
I rarely hand-write anything anymore, and find that although I can type over 80wpm, I can barely hand-scratch a legible paragraph without significant hand pain. My writing quality - and even my signature - has gone downhill over the last 10 years to the point where it's almost useless.
Your problem isn't that it's rote memorization -- I'm terrible at anything requiring rote memorization. Your problem (and a lot of other peoples') is you don't read enough books. I urge you and everyone else to acquaint yourselves with you local public library, or if you're in college, its library.
Readaholics never have trouble with spelling, unless all they read is the internet.
(Emphasis added)
I beg to differ. I read a lot (though mostly Wheel of Time... repeatedly) and I do not have good spelling. Same as the GP, in school I was always bad at any subject which required rote memorization and spelling was always my worst.
I don't think that typing has made my ability to spell any worse since it has always been terrible but my writing has become almost legendary for how bad it is. Sometime over the years I created my own font which is a horrible blend of script, monospaced and block letters which can only be deciphered by me, and not always by me.
The intelligence level of so many comments, one after another make me feel like I'm on CNet.
I better leave before my IQ level gets diminished too far and I too start foaming at the mouth.

[...] that I can't read outside is a better alternative.
Outside? What is this place? Tell me more.

Oh and profit too but I'm not sure how.
:(
*fully meaning all games except PSO
I read the title and thought, don't we already have substances to do this for us?
When I want to check out a band, I search Purevolume before resorting to Myspace.

Also what's "Arm"?
It is a unit of measurement used to measure cost, monetary value and desirability (often used in conjuncture with leg).

Yeah.. right. Because it's so hard to put all your documents in one area (I shall call it, My Documents) and backup/restore that data.
Wait! That's what I called my documents! How will we know the difference!?

Uh, the second Death Star was never completed, you idiot. ...
Yes, but I'll bet that although it was never completed it ran Linux. That's a lot more than you could say about the first (complete) Death Star.
I just want to know, is it fascism or is it not fascism? I'm confused because we have both tags.

Fixed that for you.
I don't think four year old kids should be drinking enough to get drunk. ...just saying.
The sad thing is, I can read that just fine.
I get and appreciate the joke but was this sentence incredibly difficult for anyone else to read, or am I just that much of a grammar nazi?
No, me too. I am not a grammar nazi (frequently using the wrong affect/effect word) and I had numerous *twitch* moments reading the GP's sentence.

...for those that don't want to read the summary but may wish to discuss it intelligently in person.
There. Fixed that for you.
