Does anyone have any inside deets on what the major fuck-up was with the first revision?
I know that bugs are bugs, but I'm particularly curious about what was responsible for the halved battery life. Was there some rogue process factoring random numbers constantly in the background that slipped in, or something?
I would recommend the MOTU 828mkII; it connects by Firewire, has a plethora of onboard mixing capabilities, and costs about 2/3 of the Digi 002 Rack (not to mention is only 1U high instead of 2U).
I just got one a couple weeks ago. Pretty pleased with it. (The bundled Audiodesk software is a bit strange in some respects though... I haven't used Digital Performer, maybe it is also just as strange)
Am I dense... or is this joke, while amusing and worthy of +5 for its intent, backwards?
Typically it is impaired short-term memory and slower reaction time that are known to accompany the munchies... so one might figure that 3G would *suppress* appetite, no?
If you assemble enough bongo-players standing side beside one another (and throw in some representation from the wind section for good measure), I posit this can be assured to beat the avian carrier in band width.:)
Actually, you've conjured two other interesting points I'd like to comment on.:)
1. Calling an advertisement a "commercial" is something else that has always bothered me. "Commercial" is an adjective, meaning something to do with commerce. True, ads are commercial in nature, but why not just call them what they are? A little less euphemistic.
2. Yeah, why are trailers called trailers anyway? They don't trail behind anything; in fact, they lead. (Actually, I think I know the answer to that... back in the good old days, these teasers actually did follow the feature presentation, I believe. Then, the studios got obstinate and greedy.)
Where do they come up with these terms, anyway? "Screener"? I had to begin reading the article to understand that it meant a copy of a movie on DVD, like the common person calls, uh, a "movie".
"Pre-release" or "restricted print" would get the idea across to any layperson, without having to invent new language.
The phrase "to screen a film" has always bothered me too. It makes me envision a group of censors sitting around a table examining the flick for banned content.
I think I'm going to go and headphones some music now.
You and Dreadlord just don't get the goddamn joke, do you.
(Yes, I read the article... and I know what it stands for... and I realise that posting this lame reply to my own lame joke is lame... but it's a boring Sunday afternoon)
So that means every time you buy a CD to backup your Word documents, or photos, or home movies etc you pay a $0.77 tax which ends up going to the music industry.
I keep hearing this, and I guess it must be true bureaucratically. However, in practice, it has never been a problem. For several years I've been buying media at this place here in Ottawa at reasonable prices. For example: 100-spindle of CDRs for 35.99 (CAD). Prices elsewhere are similar. The net cost per CDR is less than half of what you say is the tax that's supposed to be included in it. Right.
"Root for" is exactly the key to this issue: if a de facto majority started using alternate root servers (say ones that were administered by a commonly sanctioned, independent, non-profit, sane third party) then Verisign would have no leverage to make this occur.
Apple doesn't recommend booting off an iPod because it might overheat the device from too much use on the drive
Really? I didn't know that. One would think then that using it as an external hard disk would be just as bad, no? How do you differentiate between good and excessive use?
Actually, my favourite high school math teacher (in fact one of the best profs I'd ever had) typically spoke in units of elephants, when trying to illustrate concepts involving quantities that were otherwise hard to relate to.
(e.g. "imagine I have root two elephants sitting on the floor here, and then multiply the imaginary part...")
So you're saying that the audio file is part of the Apple software?
(I would read the license myself to find out what the definition of "Apple Software" is, but I can't find it. Online help doesn't have it, nor does the about box. Where can I find it?)

Believe it or not, the world is not black and white!
(...can I borrow your glasses?)

Record everything to the HD, then burn the disc, and viola, home CD recording.
;)
Ahh, so when you said you were turning your computer room into a studio, you weren't kidding about the chamber music!

Yes, it's too bad... for some strange reason, technology didn't promise to stop advancing upon cue of your purchase!
-ben
Which has the greater bandwidth?
:)

Ooooh a deft karma-doubling trick. :)
Can I try too?
Here is the mirror.
There, I even "added value" to the HREF. heh.

You unintentionally made a great on-point pun.

Word to Big Bird. I've stated the same position for months (probably more than a year) now. Here's hopin'.
I can't see it replacing 4-trackers, but to do stereo to disk would be killer. Recording live shows, exactly.
Since the disk would be spinning full time, though, I wonder what kind of record time one would get (battery would be the limiting factor).

It's interesting how the "populous" (sic poster) can't relate to the "cumulous" (sic article) clouds.

Why guess? Steve explained at the keynote, like it says right here:
Or are you alluding to something else?
Well, that depends on your provider I guess.
I had Bell Canada for a couple of years, and all toll-free calls came through as unknown name, unknown number on my call display.
I switched to Sprint a couple of weeks ago, and now I get the name for some odd reason, but no number.
-ben
Tea and SCOne(s)?
heh.

The first two things it conjured in my mind were "efface" (eraser), and "defecate". Hmm...

Hmm... get a new job? Petition your company to use a different phone?
There's always some choice and free will involved.

"irate" is how a lot of people start to feel as they witness an increasingly large community being bamboozled by the RIAA.
