HAPPY BIRTHDAY LINUX! Bday present, Dont tell Linus but i got you a bottle of Gin and a box of Trojan's. Use them in which ever order you find most pleasant.
Oh, the Kegger will be at Ballmer's house!
no, you have a piece of paper thats has "Obama" on one side and "McCain" on the other, and some old lady watches to make sure oyu only put one tally, and after four tallies you put a line through to show five, and do this in groups so its easy to count. If she cant count past 5, tell her to take her shoes off and use her toes.
I have geat advice for the contributors to this article:
1) quit being a bitch (mod -1 karma)
2) You married the girl for a reason, if shes not satisfied with you, its YOUR FAULT!
3) instead of whining that slashdot doesnt have a kids section, why dont you get off your ass and play with your kids!
my baby girl is due in a month and i cant wait cuz i get to hang out with her, Although im ready for the disapointment of her not being a C programmer, i know ill have the chance to show her all the great things that life has to offer, hunting, fishing, mechanics, math, hating boys...
Honestly, if you have a wife and child and you go home and play on your computer, maybe you should divorce her, get rid of the child, and move back to your parents house!
... And you cant turn yourself inside out?
Bring in your laptop and hack the school network,
and do it in Linux, have a few terminals running that you are not using to just spit out random stuff (Linux a kernel compilation). Then after you hack the ADS server, have every computer in the school pop up a message that says,
"HACK THE PLANET, GRAND CENTRAL". That's what i did, but then i had a bunch of FBI guys after me, and my buddy had to ditch a floppy disc in the garbage can right before he was caught... good ol days...
This is true. for being 22 years old, i still think like a kid. Most likely it will be the boys that you will have to get the attention from. not being sexist, but its more of a stereotype. You could bring in some, OMG PONIES!, but that wont last long.
my advice, for your visual aids, maybe a slide show? Do some aerospace, and show alot of mechanical stuff as you can. Pictures of servers ripped open, stuff like that. Its easy to seize the imagination of a boy when there is fire or disaster involved. Also, if your a unix admin, bring in a server thats tore apart and let them look at it. Its always cool to get upclose and see the chips and all the wiring on the boards.
just think to your self, what would my son like to see? or ask him! im sure hell be able to pick out the cool and interesting visuals at his whole class will enjoy. one more piece of advice, if its meatloaf day, DONT EAT IT!
*ring ring* Hey Dan?
Its Joe. I got some good news and bad news.
The bad news is i just smoked a pedestrian with your car, cuz i had a GTA flashback.
But the good news is a just saved a bunch of money on my car insurance by switching to Geico.
For someone that has lived in Northern Minnesota my whole life (like 250 miles from the border?) ive really never been there. I was on Lake of the Woods Last year. We would fish on the MN side and Pee on the Canadian side... but anyway, Its not like we live in a world where we have never seen a mixed couple, or something like that. They turned there head cuz you were wearing a "I [heart] ND" shirt, and they thought you were weird.
But one thing i have noticed, from traveling around the US, There is NOTHING like a midwest girl. Try looking at crap for weeks, and then cruise into Iowa (they jsut keep getting better as you go north) As see a suburban pull up with the hott mom and her 3 beautiful blonde daughters with nice butts and nice racks. thats why i live in northern US. And im sure Canada has the same thing, but they're fuzzy
Question 1: Yes, Facetious
Question 2: Yes, American (Minnesotan)
I was trying to be a good slashdotter by making references about another article (cant find link, about oldest rocks found).
But damn, you caught me. mod +1 for effort? screw it, im gonna go kill a tree, my karma is shot.
Trees are only most effective in their early days, as soon as they hit a certain time in their life (half their age?) they stop being productive at filtering CO2. This is another good reason for clear cutting forests, so new plant life can grow. more on the subject, I think i seen this machine on the science channel the other night, and it looked like a steam engine. They ran it off a generator, and i think it had a 30:1 effectiancy rate (it removed 30 times more co2 than the generator it ran off of produced). And for some reason, they did the test in the middle of a stadium. It was really interesting. Now, we need to see cities (LA!) putting these things on roof tops.
But then again, i down think 'we' are causing global warming, i think its the earth, its a cycle that been going on for thousands of years (earth = 6k years old, right?), there we times when earth had alot more co2 then it does now, there will be a time when it has alot less than now.
My boss has been lying to me!
j/k.. listen, As Being An American, and Student, And work in the IT world, I value Open Source as a tool for information. I see OSS As a way to compete with Proprietary Software.
If it wasnt for things like *nix, what would Windows be? It would be crap. IE would suck alot more than it does, and MS wouldnt have any competition.
Also, I see it as a way to give back and submit my ideas to an organization that has given to me.
If i dont like MS MediaPlayer, there is nothing i can do about it (except get someone elses).
But with OSS, If i dont like something Xine did, I could create a fix and submit it. Although It might not make it to Release, Itll make me happy.
The Bottom line is... Well there is no Damn bottom line!: There are the people that work with IT, and use software as available. And there are the hobbiest programmers, that although work in IT, Also build programs and use OSS as a way to Propogate their skills and share software in a valued way that they receive.
I think this article is pointed more towards those that dont give back because they cant. Where Im sure Over half (50%) of people that use OpenSource Attempt to give back to the better good by either monetary contributions or code, And I dont think these people differ too much from continent to continent. Whats does India see in this arguement Versus UK and US?
Just Rmeber that our 4dimenstions 3d+time, might only exist in our universe. Ever looked into String Theory?.
Most likely everything they are saying today is way different than what it actually is. But to be able to comprehend what might be out there, and to think of new ways it can be imagined, Is to me, a huge step in our advancement.
To me, this bubble is merely a little 'pop!' that happened as the big bang accured. Although it happened very quick, we were caught in this bubble, where inside brought on these 4 dimensions and this split second of time outside, happened for billions of years inside.
Somewhere on Slashdot there was a story about universes appearing in the corner of your office. I think this isn't far from the truth, since space-time is all relative. One might appear and disappear in our dimensions, but might exists for a long time in theirs.
One more thing.... shit i forgot, Ill post it later
I like the idea of taking a dimension away.. Like Z.. So everything is the same size now matter how far or close it is.
Also, since we've found this 'dark matter' I wonder if it accounts for the socks gone missing in my dryer
I got suspened in 7th grade for saying everyone from a certain town, was inbread. The teacher happened to live in that town and had me suspended. Years later (junior year of HS?) another teacher of mine repeated what i said earlier.
It all comes down to who you are and who has power above you.
I do believe what I said was inappropriate to say, and that it was slander, and is something that should NOT be tolerated in schools.
As a minor, your not a full-blown citizen yet, and do have parental authorities (teachers, principal, parents) that are responsible for your actions, and hence need to take actions when necessary.
BTW: the town is inbread. i believe the whole population is cousins, and sibings, and they all have bad hygiene.
oooo, GL accelerated Web Pages.. sounds good.
Its cool to see OpenGL becoming 'open'. Now my hopes are (since the previous has just been fulfilled!) is for openGL to take DirectX's market share.
And as for the 3d accel'd web pages:
slashdot - your page looks like shit in IE 5.5 (i think this is becuase 5.5 has 3d acceration.. if you buy the glasses)
-Cheers, and good luck openGL
This is true. The commercial is about as corny as anything else out there. Its nothing special, but i dont see it as bad.
I think the seinfeld commercial was way better though...
hmm, lets see here:

Im not sure why they are so worried about people using their logos and name. normally, If you 'fork' a develpment, you dont call it the same thing.
Coming soon! YAFFBNNS (Yaff - bins)
Yet Another FireFox But Not Named So.
There, put that in your EULA and smoke it.
So then It comes back to the original argument of us paying twice for something we paid for originally.
i still believe the ladder is the most profitable. If we were to sell the patents, and get some money off them, as to making them public domain, and not getting anything from them, but yet having to pay for them again.
It makes no sense to be public domain.
free to the public means no one will make money off it. That means it is public domain, no one can charge for it, and it will be free knowledge. I say, sell the patents, make some more money and get those damn shuttles in the air.
Then your cows will learn howto call out, and be pranking you at 3 oclock in the morning ..
"MOOO!, Where my damn food at, MOOO!!"
so .. was that a fat joke?
