ooh I remember the System 7 days well.. dragging the text clipping "secret about box" to the desktop activated a hidden brickout game, or an interactive flag blowing in the wind in front of the Cupertino HQ..
OS X sucks. face it. It was a nice idea and it just doesn't work. I hope apple isn't taking extra steps to prevent it (via hardware), but rather stopping development of OS 9 drivers for the new hardware (I imagine new powerbooks will be among the first affected by this), and maybe make the Startup Disk control panel in X not recognize OS < 10, which would allow someone smart who still wanted to try to boot into 9 to be able to.
This seems like an irresponsible use of internet bandwidth. Yeah so this might be convenient or whatever, but I think we should save our traffic for other things, like reloading slashdot every 13 seconds
and for the first time scientists can get the feel of what lies outside the solar system.
they probably won't be getting too much. To my understanding, Voyager is currently in a minimal power usage mode and is not able to send back much data. I also believe the nuclear generator onboard is set to run out of fuel in 2020 or some time around then.
of course, this is still rumored material. although apple rumors often turn out being true to some extent, I've heard that 17" are likely but not much about 19" displays.
Well obviously the remote is not IR, and that wasn't even what the quote said.
Considering cards are generally installed in the back of the computer, it's kind of nice to not have to turn the thing around or put it close to a reflective wall in order to have an IR sensor pick it up.
Also nice not to require an external IR sensor to be mounted on the front of the computer either.
this posting was just a big plot by the slashdot editors to bankrupt apple. I see how it is, post the comment page and then all these windows and linux users will go and tell apple what they're doing that they like and what they don't like and then apple will make all the necessary changes and gain a greater chunk of the market...
this was really posted so that hundreds of thousands of readers would submit comments to apple... bad comments and good. the point is that apple is going to need to hire so many people just to read it all that machine prices will skyrocket and never sell another model!!
If the Linux version ships with source (or even if it doesn't), it would be really neat to modify this for measuring different things.
I would love to have one of these on my router box to represent bandwidth utilization. Maybe even have individual ones on different sides of bridges, all calibrated to show what portion of the network is using percentages of bandwidth.
With these gauges, fit with some kind of fluorescent backlight, the server closet would look pretty leet at night.
you're worried about security involved in leaving a key to your car in it... probably buried and bolted in under mounds of metal under the hood or someplace, when the reception of a certain radio signal will start the thing?
Even better... satellite dish connected to DVB card - lets you record the MPEG2 directly, no analog stage:)
There may not be an analog stage at your end, but chances are they don't pipe raw digital output from their CD player into their broadcasting equipment, so I'd bet it's analog for a short bit when they play it.
The problem with NPR podcasts is that you can't call in live and participate.
This is one of the most compelling things about live radio!

are there any such hidden eggs in OS X?
I've always used user@host.com but lately it seems validators are disallowing this option.

What a better way to show our Americanism than by removing one of the things that distinguishes America: competitive commercial advertising
OSDN should be shoving ads in our faces otherwise they're just contributing to a breakdown of American values.

oh what a bunch of crap.
apple isn't going to tweak the hardware just to prevent people from booting into classic. it's not that kind of company.
silly pudge, I'll bet he just wanted to make use of that OS 9 category he made for this article =P
cancel the summit and hold it via wireless video conferencing
I had a feeling today was April 1!
But seriously, those requirements make Windows look like GNU utilities. What kind of market do they expect to be able to attract?

As was mentioned, the first time this video was posted here, the day it was released, one of the Besides, how is that part of the video news?
Nothing says white trash like having a multimilliondollar russian space shuttle rusting on your lawn!
don't you mean red trash?
offtopic? it was written in the damn writeup. if it's offtopic in the article it's in response to then where the hell is it on topic?
once a week is enough promoting of apple.slashdot.org. those who care about/use it know about it and have it first in their slashboxes.

besides being OS X native, photoshop 7's text engine is gonna have spell check! whoo hoo!
<offtopic> just love the aqua-like slashdot logo on apple.slashdot.org</offtopic>
I can't believe our fearless leader would make such an error...

I guess I'll have to wait for the manual.
Or you can just check http://www.apple.com/pr/ right after the keynote tomorrow.

Any idea if 802.11g is going to be limited in operating radius compared to b?
