I just watched the video, and aparrently what's known as a "computer show" has been renamed to a "Tech Circus". I'm sorry, but the presence of people dressed up in ridiculous suits, jugglers, and a square-shouldered man in drag does not make an event a 'circus'. Almost everything displayed in the video is openly available retail at many stores.
A pretty amateurish video, for a pretty amateurish event. A good 30 second was devoted to people playing Unreal Tournament 2003 - how incredible. Narration of some sort would have definately made this a lot more interesting. At many stages it's unclear whether the robots are remote or ai-controlled.
One thing that was very cool was a robot climbing up a wall and what looked like looking for holes to put something into. (again, some sort of narration would be great)
I must say, I am a bit surprised to see this on Slashdot. Then again, Slashdot never really ceases to surprise me.:)
And additionally, don't cut and paste what somebody else has written. We need as many well written, unique critiques of the law submitted as we can muster. If you're not so great with language, then get someone to draft it for you, but don't just sit on slashdot and do nothing.
It is interesting that we see people going to jail for 5+ years for 'computer crime', whilst the average sentence for violent crime in the USA is 2 years.
I informed you of your mistake for your benefit. I don't use private messages.
Perhaps you might gain some sort of personal satisfaction from publicly correcting someone in a demeaning way, but I do not. My message was clear and concise, and free of any kind of emotional subtext.
I thought closing quotation marks on a paragraph were left off only if the quote was to continue in the next paragraph.
It would certainly be difficult to read a conversation without that convention, for example:
"Hello," said Mildred.
"Hi," I said.
"You're probably wondering why I came here today, well it's because I have something very important to say to you.
"I'm interested in starting up a trout farm with lended funds, and I need you to garuntee the lease."
"Aha."
See what I mean? With the current convention as I am aware, it's clear that Mildred is saying both the third and fourth paragraphs. Were there a trailing " on the third paragraph, it would imply that I was saying the fourth.
I mean, it's not like it's a trivial grammatical error. A word with a completely different meaning was substituted for one which sounded the same.
Incidentally, the reasoning behind placing the period outside of the quotes was because of coding habits. (it makes a lot more sense to do it that way from a straight logic point of view, imo)
Actually, the nature of the semi-independant p2p system (consisting of nodes and supernodes) prevents any one user from searching every user on the system. Not only that, but the more leeches you're surrounded by, the less chance you'll have of finding anything interesting.
Why a network like this should be used for anything other than porn is beyond me - any other media is pretty dubious as far as encode quality goes, and there's nothing rare enough that's accessible to warrant the sacrifice.
Err, in what way is being inside a car a 'safe environment'? There's a much higher chance of injury/death while travelling inside a car than skydiving.
Fractions are fucking trivial. The reason why so many people in the USA have such trouble with fractions is because of the imperial system.
Kids trying to learn basic measurements are forced to learn fractions at too early an age, and thus draw false conclusions and learn to recognise patterns instead of actually comprehending the principles.
Here in Australia (and in many other countries, I'm told) people have much fewer problems with fractions because we don't have to learn them until we're capable of comprehending them fully.
Perhaps you should do some research, or even read Slashdot more often. In a Slashdot Interview, Walker mentioned his meeting John Carmack, etc.
Personally, I'd trust myself with Carmack's work over this Walker guy's any day. Carmack is methodical, intelligent, observant, and based on the news archive at Armadillo very careful.
Why? Because morbidly obese people are really unsightly.

Here here to that.

You are correct. But:
It is irrelevant what the intended use for the chip is. If it contains any Microsoft code then it's not legally saleable. That's the bottom line.
When was the last time you saw a Slashdot editor correct anything?
One of the image links on that page is broken.

Uh, I'm not having a hard time. You attacked me because I posted one line informing you of your mistake.
Talk about insecurity, sheesh.

I was actually helping the guy who obviously hadn't realised that he had the two words confused. Otherwise he'd never know the difference.
I thinking you mean "deluding" (as in "delusion"), not "diluting".
Packages like djbdns and qmail make service configuration trivial, as it should be.
Last time I checked you need to devote some serious time and brain power to properly setting up sendmail.
I just mirrored a snapshot of the slashdot frontpage, and ran it through the w3c validator with interesting results.
To reiterate, bad slashdot!

[#bandwidth] Channel is full
haha.

Maybe now some of us who don't have hours a day to waste levelling-up can begin to enjoy MMORPG's.
Those who are complaining should really think about why they're upset, and realise that it's because they have an elitist attitude.
Seems to work perfectly for me. (I just installed 1.1 then)

David you idiot. Carmack wrote the Quake-C and other ingame code for Quake, Quake2, and Quake3, including the rocket physics.
I personally think that it would be retarded to add player movement to rocket movement, and it would remove a lot of the fun from the games.

Well I wouldn't be much of a fucking "Mac fanatic" if I didn't own any Macs, would I?
(yet another reason for reading at -1)
