  1. Not a developer on COWS Ajax - Ajax Evolved · · Score: 4, Insightful

But if a dev in my team would ask this to implement I would ask a few questions:
    - Does it work if the embedded page is offline?
    - Does it slow down if the embedded page is under heavy load from somebody else?
    - Does it break if some standard/lib/implementation/EULA changes?
    - Can we customize it to our GUI?
    - In the example given, how does it play with browserspellcheckers like the one coming in FF2.0?
    - Why are we paying you if all you do is reuse thirdparty code wich doesnt belong to the company?

You get the idea. Not saying its a bad idea but I have my concerns and so would a lot of managers/devs. At least the ones I have the pleasure to work with.

Ever since I rolled out an LDAPed Samba domain for a customer I was wondering why this is not beeing used for more stuff?
Its relatively eay to setup and quite stable. This in combination with PAM should be the once and for all way of authentication.
If you have a directory like this you can add virtually everything to it, be it intranet pages, mailserver authentication, hell even an inhouse Jabber client for employees. This should be unified and used much more often.

The management is a blast with the ability to choose whatever LDAP-Frontend you might wanna use and worstcase you can go back to browserbased or console. Its really flexible, elegant and in a Unix style a tool for the job.

Who can enlighten me why this is still rather a niche? are Unixadmins simply too used to the passwd/shadow style auth?
Oh yeah: In case you are going to set it up stay the hell away from BerkeleyDB 4.3.
It can have some nasty surprises. :) Been there...

I honestly feel for you. A friend of mine who was playing Everquest looked and behaved the same way until he got kicked out of the university, got kicked out of his flat by his roommates, had hair to the shoulders (not because it was cool but because there was no money/time/incentive to trim it) ate raw sugar if anything at all, smoked cigarettes made of newspapers and old tobacco from the roommates ashtrays etc...

Shall I go on?? He was about the smartest person I ever knew and now he is working as a facility manager in a small appartment building.
Its a fucking tragedy. If you want my advice break it to your brother that he either quits playing or should no longer rely on you helping him out. Its like alcoholics. As long as you help them out of their mess they wont change their behaviour pattern...

Personally I cant afford playing these games although I would love to because of this exact problem.

Yes, I will get this box too. The point is, I never got warm with my PS2, since whenever I tried to play a game usually the tutorial alone was so damn boring I didn't actually bother to play thru. (Namely I played: Metal Gear solid 2 (terribly boring ), Silent Hill 2 (no athmosphere whatsoever), Devil may cry (repetitive), Final Fantasy X (I never got across the tut), Tecken tag tournament (the only fun one))

One could argue that I am the short attention span type, but I am definetly not. I play videogames for 25 years now and I really LOVED the classic adventures and even fell for shooters such as QII or Wolfenstein. My last addiction was Neverwinternights, and a korean MMORPG called DarkAges. Both were really catchy and quite time consuming. In contradiction to the PS2 games that felt too straight and uninspired for me.

When I first read about the new Wii controller I wasn't sure wether it was such a bright idea but the more I think and read about it more it seems to be a good implementation for quite a lot of gamesettings. I really hope that they stick with their sane pricing policy. This could fill a gap in the console section that could sit nicely with my gaming habits.

Personally if I was going to choose I'd vote for e-mail spam just to get rid of this total waste of ressources.
There should be a LAW against this, and against buying from spammers, reallife or virtual.

An additional plus: you can take shortcuts through parks and industrial sites where no car can get through wich cuts the distance even further.
