Frankly, I really don't care what is allowed today and what is illegal the next day or vice versa. The record industry is confused, I know. But it's not my fucking problem. If they can't speak with one voice and come out every day with a new law/copyright/drm/ or whatever, I just don't care anymore. I share my stuff now without regret. They have proven to be clueless and it's not my job to follow every press release to have a semiidea of what is legal or illegal today. Now sue me for rebuying my LPs in the 90s as CDs and not doing the same with your DRM-ridden songs last year that you are now reselling as DRMfree MP3s. You can have your LedZeppelin Revivals, I have my LedZeppelin records and everything you produce today is rubbish anyway.

I have been preaching this for years. Glad raises the topic.
Actually, a year ago I wrote a song inspired by some concept art from the 70s:

Here it is, for your convenience, hope you like it. :)

    ARTIFICIAL SUMMER BREEZE (BERNAL SPHERE)

Have you heard the news my dear?
Were moving in our Bernal Sphere
I read the brochure, it was clear
the futures here within a year.

    I bought a semidetatched place
close to the zero G estates.
well work on earths first SPS
a giant maser, whod have guessed?

    REFRAIN:
We will wake up every morning
    under our acacia tree
    life looks just like california
    at the end of history
A Bernal Sphere, a Bernal Sphere,
    a Bernal Sphere, my dear!
    Ohhh...Were moving in...

Our kids will attend junior high
    first generation born in sky
    everyone will life in peace
    in artificial summer breeze

    Happy hour 24
    everything you dream and more
    interstellar travel tickets
    outdoor family spacewalk picnics

    REFRAIN:
We will wake up every morning
    under our acacia tree
    life looks just like california
    at the end of history
A Bernal Sphere, a Bernal Sphere,
    a Bernal Sphere, my dear!
    Ohhh...Were moving in...

                    ---

    BRIDGE:
Well go jogging on the riverside
    breakfast on our own terrace
    floating high above the earth
well go and surf the skies.

    REPRISE:
Come take my hand and have no fear
our future is the Bernal Sphere
but then again on second look
just sketches from a 70s book.

I think its a mixture of the DRM/format lock-in, regular market saturation and growing competition. 24. Re:Not a developer on COWS Ajax - Ajax Evolved · · Score: 1

That question is so completely insulting to a developer -- it so trivializes their attempt to do something smart and useful for you -- that if you asked that question, developer morale would immediately plummet. If you have ever asked such a question in the past, you need to know that your company has lost productivity because of it. Even if it never resulted in a missed deadline. Once you insult your developers, they're not going to want to work hard for you. They're going to stop caring. Do something smart and get insulted? OK, stop trying to be smart. If you've ever had to limit your scope or drop features or push out a deadline or worse, and such a thing happened after you asked such a question, now you know why. If you've ever released something that was buggier than people expected, or more difficult to refactor than the developers expected, you can probably bet that a member of your team was insulted and stopped caring.

Ok, please understand, I didnt ask this question as I am a sysad myself and work a lot with devs and use a lot of GNU stuff wich gets most of my work done for me. BUT, the managers in my company often asked questions like this. I hate this kind of questions myself, but I just knew that they would ask it if theyd hear about this, so I included it. I am not a manager nor a dev. But a systema administrator and I know both kinds of people. Personally I am a strong supporter of the bottom up approach and libraries or ideas like CowAJAX are part of this. Just for clarification! :)
