I'm sure that if PHP had been more mature when/. was created - it would have been considered. If PHP of today were available when Taco was considering it - I'm sure that it would be a different beast today.
But consider the number of man hours that are in the slash code... it works... it does what they want... and it's in a language that they know well. There's no reason to ever change it.
The only thing I can do is stop buying music - which will hurt the artists I like - and listen to it on the radio. Neither truly feeding the flames, nor the coffers of the RIAA.
While I miss arcades - I just can't bring myself to shell out $1-$2 to play a game for a few minutes... when I can turn around and buy the exact same game for a console or my PC... for 20-30 times as much - but play it as much as I like with friends/family.
I do miss the arcade... and have even dreamed of opening a small MAME cabinet arcade... not that I have the resources at hand... but I can dream.;)
Seriously. Wireless or wired ethernet... why add in the complexity of the DSL hardware?
Unless you absolutely need to use the existing copper or something - in which case a DSL solution would work nicely......but since you're able to run wire - go with 100Mbps ethernet to each unit... and if you have to control access do it with a patch panel...;)
...security goes out the window. (no puns actually intended).
The almighty dollar means more than anything to a corporation after all. Laws, security, morals - whatever - have nothing to do with how a corporation acts, unless it will affect profit.
I got an EB giftcard back in October... that I've saved just for this game... not that I wasn't tempted by other games... but I really wanted this one... and I try to limit my game spending.:)
I have written a web-application (game) in PHP... and a friend who is a java snob (he feels no other language is worthwhile any more... and I have to listen to it...:P) constantly is saying thing like "well in java - that problem doesn't exist because [insert long winded arrogance]", or "loose types are a short path to hell - and that's where you're headed with PHP" and "PHP isn't a real language anyway - no one would use it at an enterprise level"...
Pointing out that Yahoo is now using it as their default language - and that Rasmus (author of PHP) actually was hired by Yahoo as a result is simply dismissed as bad judgement on their part.
It's like arguing religion or politics...:P
So I just sit back and listen to the tirade - and try not to egg him on...
It's not unusual to see credit checks as part of a security clearance check... as people with great debt are often more likely to sell information or be otherwise comprimised by the offer of money.
However, I don't know what the law says about it with respect to general employment. Check with a lawyer before you do anything to rash (either way) if it really concerns you.
...writing in cursive, and still do.
Printing - no problem... fast and even readable by others.
Mind you, for my age group - I was an early adopter of the keyboard... and could type 120 wpm in high-school...
Heh... look at the comment below ours...
...whenever they announce the release of free software distributions (or large applications).
That would be a nice value added service.

Very few articles make me angry. This one did.
RIAA _is_ a bully. Someone needs to stop them.

What Network games are available for the PS2?
I guess my real question might be - are there any network games for the PS2 that make buying the network adapter worthwhile?

I thought the DMCA was about copyright control circumvention?
What, are they claiming that a dumpster is copyright control?
You ascribe more long-term vision and wisdom to a corporation than I am willing to myself.
So they can drop their monthly fees???
Last time I checked - they were a 'for profit' business... monthly fees + selling of data = more profit ~= happier shareholders.
You'd actually want more people trying to download it at the same time... because that provides many more upload sites at the same time.
Bittorrent is a really clever technology... I was able to download RedHat 9.0 in minutes rather than hours when it was made available.
There's two ways to use it right now...
1. like a vcr - no advanced features (the way I use it)
2. hacking it - and uploading guide data from zap2it.com...
Half a dozen of my friends have them - and use them one of the two ways above...
You can buy they from ebay quite easily - I found mine at an electronic liquidator for $75 CAD.
Apparently Star Choice has the license for the technology in Canada - so Tivo is contractually prevented from rolling it out in Canada...

...play it at BlackNova.Net ;)
...and I didn't even submit the story...

You could buy that much for just one penny!
Of course, you'd continue to get (and be expected to pay for) CDs for as long as you own your car...
It's not the reviewer's link... it's slashdot's.
Imagine a business trying to make money of their content...
...he's a pepper... wouldn't you like to be a pepper too?

Sorry - I use a couple of different ad companies right now... and that can sometimes happen...
It's not me directly...
