Mod parent up! Apple may have money to throw at this issue, but they do NOT have the time. They might have if they have developed this for a few more years in secret, but now that it's out, they're boned.

  3. Wait, What? on Apple CEO Tim Cook Apologizes For Maps App, Recommends Alternatives · · Score: 2, Insightful

I thought the whole No Google Maps on iOS was a plan, didn't they use their app for 5 minutes, and realize the HUGE outcry when they removed it? Further, due to the massive amounts of money (which apple has in spades) and time (which apple doesn't have at this point) what can they hope to do to fix it? And why didn't they pull the plug before it got to release state? Somebody really dropped the ball, or lied out of their ass during the status meetings. I'm wondering when the firings will start.

Sorry, but I've been on unemployment from time to time while working my ass off to find a new job. I have yet to see an unemployment check that came within a 1/4 of what most of the people reading Slashdot get paid. That also goes for most "middle" class jobs. You get laid-off from Wendy's then you might sit around on your ass, otherwise, you're going to be eating into your savings and trying like heck to find your next job before you lose the house/car/wife.

  8. Re:for artists? on David Lowery On the Ethics of Music Piracy · · Score: 1

Actually the argument has been going on since the beginning of the printing press, if not earlier. In the 1900s the argument was all about the copyright the song writer held over his sheet music, which was easily copied and re-printed by rival companies, depriving the artist of royalties. I suspect that there might have been arguments between various bards as they plied their trade over people overhearing and repeating their songs, who knows?

It's nice to see somebody standing up to Monsanto. Never has one company been so close to totally controlling the food supply for the entire planet. Their abusive practices with farmers both home and abroad have been well documented, and yet our elected leaders turn a blind eye.

There's a difference in the markets. Cars are a tool, and essentially one tool is like any other. So it's to their benefit to provide you with a place to dispose of your unwanted (but still useful) car. Games are very different (or there would be lawsuits :) ), you can use multiple games at the same time, and you don't need one to function in society. A better analogy would be the car makers maintaining the used motorcycle, and scooter markets.
