I didn't say the Pippin was profitable, the Newton was.
As for the numbers, Amelio quotes a lot of them (which can be had in the SEC filings) - and he turned that company around. Jobs just cashed in on his work.
That $150 million was offered to Amelio when he was CEO. The catch was that IE come bundled with MacOS.. Amelio said no way - he wanted a guarantee of timely ports of MS Office instead of the cash, Gates said no.. So it stayed at a stalemate.
When Jobs did his usual dirty underhanded crap and got Amelio ousted (killing off Pippin and the Newton (one of their ONLY profitable divisions at the time!) as soon as he got in the door), he immediately grabbed that cash, even though by that time they didn't need it.
In this case, if you pay with Paypal, and they don't care, you go above their heads and chargeback.
That's right, pay with a credit card and charge the fucker back. Paypal can't do a damn thing about it, which is of course why they much prefer you to pay with your bank account these days.
What would have saved it is Jobs not cancelling it.. You know that at the time he cancelled the Newton, it was one of the only decently profitable divisions of Apple?
Yes, except that it did.. Mandrake was installed and working fine.. Install SP3, reboot to mandrake, and the partition was clobbered.. Insert the Mandrake install disks, the former mandrake partitions are now showing as fat32 - ergo, Win2k silently formatted them.
I will have to give it a shot soon.. And also, I do not ever use FAT32, I use NTFS as well, on the windows side.
Maybe some of you linux gods around here can help me out..
I installed Mandrake 9 RC3 last week, and here's what happenned..
Install Win2k on first partition..
Install Mandrake on second partition.. No problem, Mandrake works.
Update Win2k to SP3 - Win2k silently formats the Mandrake partitions fat32.
Scream in frustration.
REinstall Mandrake. Works fine.
Booting into Win2k is painful, Windows basically seizes up whenever you open Explorer, I assume because it's trying to access the extfs3 (?) partitions, and has no idea what they are. It doesn't format em this time, but unfortunately my Win2k setup is useless.
Relucantly format the Mandrake partitions, problem goes away.
Now - is this deliberate, or is there some workarounds I am missing?
Actually, from what I understand your point about laser lethality is incorrect.. Hole a human with a laser and they will almost certainly die instantly from all of the water in that area heating up to extremely high temperature, and then exiting the body in a nice jet of steam. Dead dude.
Yep, I like the characters. They're not military caricatures like they were in (early) TNG.. They're not hams like TOS.. They seem real, genuine.. What's not to like? Sure, Hoshi is a little whiney.. But Trip and Malcolm are great. And the captain has a good mix of annoying self-righteousness and childlike enthusiasm.
Damn, I hope you've backed up.. I hate to think of losing my 23 gig mp3 collection, have to rerip everything.. Can't imagine losing 80gigs PLUS the photos.. Shudder.
It's not as bad in the theatres where I am now, but I've seen it VERY bad in bigger centres.
It not only pisses me off, it makes me want to get a gun and have a chat with the theatre manager.
The worst ones are of course the brand new megaplexes that are sprouting up.. It wasn't uncommon to see 4 or 5 commercials before the trailers in the last one I used to frequent. Insane!
I played the HELL out of IC (Infinity Complex), and my ability to own was only limited by my 1200 baud modem (I was occasionally beaten by equally skillfull 2400 baud players). I LOVED that game.
I also played Kyrandia, although didn't like it as much, and Galactic Empires was way better than TW2002 from what I remember of it.
There was also another one where you started with a planet, you could build industry on it, and ICBMs and nuke or ally with the other planets.
Another one was a "vietnam" kind of jungle combat game, where you started with a kind of shitty rifle and crept through the jungle (stealth was an issue) killing the other players.. When you killed them you got some money to upgrade your weapons.. Great game.
Ah, the Major BBS days, some awesome games on those things. I spent way too much money, back when I didn't have it.
However, having been a programmer for around 17 years now, and professional for 10, I didn't know that. The kind of programmer that could easily crank out that one is one with a good background in math, which I contend that most programmers don't have or need.
Hell, I've even written 3d engines from scratch and I didn't know that.. I studied the calculus I needed for the engine and did it.
That maybe more than 10 people post here?
That maybe the people that are now cheering on Eolas are not the same people that boo software patents?
That maybe your post is redudant as hell?

Sounds good.
Make it so.

My source? Gil Amelio.
On the firing line: my 500 days at Apple by Gil Amelio
Very interesting read. Very. I knew Jobs was scum before, this book clinched it.

That's pretty much a direct translation from polite legalese to English.

That was possibly the best, most helpful reply I have ever read on Slashdot.
Kudos to you sir.

Jobs is a fucking nutjob.

I think the bushes and pipe thing would be much more effective than any script kiddying.. Just think of the headlines:
Another spammer found beaten to a bloody pulp behind his house! This makes the 10th such spammer death in less than a month.
Ah I dream of such a day.
It's better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a drunk then to open it (and blow) and remove all doubt.

When you get to the end of the (3rd?) season just before they get to Earth.. Stop watching it. Run away. Seriously.
You remember when your friend told you that "when you think AI is over, stop watching"? - this is worse.

You're forgetting another solution:
Start sniping hollywood executives. That's right, study them, follow their movements, and use that high powered rifle for good.

If humans ever got around to doing it.
I know MANY webmasters still waiting for the sites to be reviewed, months later.
