I seem to remember (I'm thinking of the DOS version here) that there was a "high" graphics setting and a "low" graphics setting. In the "low" setting things were much more pixelated, but it ran much faster on lower end machines, like my 486sx.
I did something similar to this when I lived in the dorms in college to avoid their weird and draconian anti-filesharing policies. They were pretty pissed off when they saw a large (but not excessive) amount of traffic flowing to my port, but couldn't figure out what it was.
You seem to be suggesting that, regardless of one's personal feelings and aspirations, they should only move under certain circumstances and not others.
Sorry, I guess I kind of misread your post. I wasn't talking about moving from town A to town B, I was talking about unfavorable circumstances in which someone may elect to *flee* their country. Of course people move all over the place for a variety of reasons, I'm certainly not saying that's wrong, but the context of the discussion was Americans expatriating because they're "annoyed" with the current government. I was simply saying that as long as you have the ability to change your government, like the GP post said, expatriating would probably only make the problem worse.
If you don't agree with your country's government, yet still retain your basic freedoms, a comparativley high standard of living and the ability to peacefully organize and change your government, then it's probably a good idea to stick around. Even having one of these things is a good reason to stay.
If you're living in a country where you get sent to a gulag for wearing shirts that are too flashy, have to live in fear of being massacred by some warlord, or are starving to death because your crops are diseased and have failed, then getting out of dodge would seem to be a prudent option.
The only real question is why it wasn't decommissioned in the 70's (when ICBMs and subs made getting there from London unlikely) and turned into something else instead of waiting til now.
I'm guessing that they would have sent the Prime Minister and Friends to this bunker during all of the chest-beating that would likely precede a nuclear war with the Soviet Union.
Do you think the ten commandants were recently put up in court houses?
Actually, yes, they were. Most of the Ten Commandments monuments that you see in courthouses were actually donated in the 1950's to promote the film The Ten Commandments with Charleton Heston.
That's odd. My Asus P2B-DS has been running pretty much nonstop since I got it in 1998-1999, as have a couple of other Asus boards I have. Comperable boards from Abit and others that I've had have died long ago (has anyone else noticed that capacitors tend to pop on Abit boards?). I'm kind of out of the loop when it comes to newer hardware, (my newest system is around 2-3 years old) so maybe things have changed recently, but I've really never had a bad experience with Asus boards.
If not for the forces he needed in the West to counter the Allies, Hitler most likely would have taken Moscow. So much, then for the Soviet army. In other words, no American presence in the war, no Soviet presence. Hitler wins.
While I despise the current trend of attempting to downplay the US's role in World War II, you really should take another look at a timeline of the War in Europe. The German advance on Moscow was halted in mid 1941, and the decisive battle of Stalingrad, which all but ended the German offensive, took place well before the invasion of Italy or the D-Day landings.
I think that he may have been talking about Korean Pop music. At least I hope that he was - every single asian drink that I have ever tasted has made me want to vomit. Like this one time I had this weird-ass asian pop that was made out of grass or crabs or ghosts or something. It must have been made in some commie country because it had no markings on the can other than PEOPLES CRAB GRASS JELLY DRINK or whatever, and it this disgusting yet profoundly bland flavor. Also, all my loser anime otaku friends drink this crap called 'Pocari Sweat'. I don't know what the fuck 'Pocari' means in Japanese, but after drinking that crap I would guess that it means 'jockstrap' or 'old gym sock' or something. Eww. Then again, now that I think about it, Asian pop music really isn't much better than their drinks.
Yeah, but then you'll wind up spending a couple hundred years duking it out with the Human Hive, the Believers, the University of Planet and all those other weird-ass factions. Not to mention all of the drone riots and mind-worm attacks. I think I'll just stick around here and watch the Apocolypse, thank you very much.
It sure sounded like fawning over all the "free" stuff the Euro's get. Just so you're aware that there is no free lunch...
It wasn't, and I am. I'm afraid that you're just suffering from the all too common Reactionary Conservative Syndrome.
Again, France is the only other one I know first hand, but they are still subject to French taxation when working out of the country, just like we were subject to US taxes when living as ex-pats...
If you're working abroad you only need to pay US taxes if you make the equivalent of > $70,000 USD a year. I believe France and most other European countries have a simmilar system in place. If you're working in India for an Indian company, you are definatley not making that much money.
So fucking what? I wasn't comparing the two systems and implying that the European system is better, I was simply stating that it will be easier for Europeans to pull something like this off.
In any event, I doubt that Europeans working abroad are going to be paying those "confiscatory tax rates" that you keep talking about, anyway, so it just works out that much better for them.
Most european countries have substantial socialist components to thier governments. This means that when these people quit working they'll have
-Free healthcare -It won't be nearly as expensive (in most cases) for their children to attend university in europe -In some countries, they'll be given a pension to live off of when they retire
In the U.S., things are a bit different. You have a retirement fund that you need to plug money into. You need to save for your kid's college education. You need health insurance. Now, you might be able to live quite well in India if work there, but the salary that you get is so small compared to what you recieve if you worked in the U.S., that you really won't be able to provide money for any of these things. I dunno, it might be a good experience for a couple of years, but as an American, I wouldn't plan on sticking around if I did it.
A report published in The Lancet Medical Journal (although the link seems to be down at the moment) authored by researchers from John Hopkins University, Columbia University, and some University in Bagdhad. Even if the numbers are half of that, its pretty disturbing.
4096 is a multiple of 2 you dumb ass
they don't want titles like "Wii fap to tentacle rape hentai" and "Wii subway groping" to come out.

It's actually really simple.
If you don't agree with your country's government, yet still retain your basic freedoms, a comparativley high standard of living and the ability to peacefully organize and change your government, then it's probably a good idea to stick around. That's a bit rich, coming from the country which RE-ELECTED the man responsible for Guantanamo Bay.
Right. But if you replace "High School" with "University" then I believe that the comparison becomes far more accurate.

This thread makes me want to order take-out.

Fuck the cute little doggies. I'm all about having an anime catgirl that calls me "Goshujin-sama" and does all the cooking and cleaning.
