  6. BBC News on Another Plane Down in New York · · Score: 1, Redundant

An American Airlines flight on its way to John F Kennedy airport has crashed in New York.
At least four buildings in the Rockaway Beach area of the city's borough of Queens are on fire.

It is not known why the aircraft crashed or how many people were on board, or in the buildings now ablaze.

New York Mayor Rudolph Guiliani is on his way to the crash site and has called a level one alert.

There is no indication at the moment that the crash is anything other than an accident.

The weather was crystal clear when the plane - thought to be a Boeing 767 - went down.

Both towers of the World Trade Center in New York were destroyed on 11 September after 767s were flown into them.

All three airports serving New York - JFK, Newark and La Guardia - are now closed.

The Dow index dropped 200 points on hearing the news.

  11. Learning for itself on Cyc System Prepares to Take Over World · · Score: 2

At the moment it seems that all of the knowledge in Cyc has to be entered in by hand, reviewed by a technical board, etc.

IMHO for something like this to really take off, once they have taught it enough to be able to have a basic understanding of the world they should teach it various methods for discerning 'the truth' (mainly how to decide if a source is trustworthy). Then they can give it a fast internet connection, let it browse for awhile, and hopefully if should have learnt alot!

Consider it the equivalent of bringing up children: it is when they can read for themselves they really start learning.

Stealth aircarft can already be detected just by turning down the radar sensitivity and looking for anything with the radar signiture of a bird travelling way faster than it should.

The reason it still has some use though is most radar seeking misiles/automatic warning system don't do this. They just look for large radar signitures, not fast moving ones. Also it is alot easier to hit a large target than a small one.
