sudo allows a permitted user to execute a command as the superuser or another user, as
specified in the sudoers file.
I have never used UAC which seems to be what the patent is about, but it seems to me that the process described lowers the security of the system. As usual, Microsoft puts ease of use ahead of security.
But to elevate his or her rights to perform a task, the user will often need to find or remember an administrator account name. This may be disruptive; a user may need to call someone to figure out the name, find some scrap of paper somewhere on which the user wrote it down some time ago, and the like.
No, but using the TOR network may.
The Norwegian govt - well, one party in it - wants to implement the EU directive on storing communication information, and they will, with the support of the conservatives. So we're trying to make the conservatives wake up.
This is/., I didn't read TFA - but the summary reminded me of this book by John Brunner. IIRC he suggested that a (hypothetical) pheromone would help people cope with the stress of overpopulation, dropping the US murder rate to very low levels, among other effects...
... and someday, it will be able to excise growths in the pre-cancer stage.
My two brothers have been cured of colonic cancer, maybe it's my turn next.
So I did the right thing, then? Earlier this year I visited family in Toronto, Ontario, and flew Icelandair via Reykjavik to avoid connecting in Boston.
The last time I visited the US was in the late 1990s, quite pleasant to arrive in Orlando. Some day I'd like to drive Route 1 along the Florida coast - it was nice. But I'm not visiting again until the state of emergency has been lifted. And you know what I'm talking about.
Absolutely. Or as my wife and I did, living in Oslo, flew Icelandair to Toronto with a layover in Reykjavik, including a visit to the Blue Lagoon on our way out. No problem getting into Toronto, visiting family.
We actually lived in the US for a little over a year, many years ago - left the DC area a few months before Richard M. Nixon did - and someday we'd like to visit again, but not as long as the US has, in effect, a state of emergency.
:-)
I think the phrase was used in Mad Magazine, *mumble* years ago, and referred to the Confederated States, not Quebec. Oh, and I live somewhere in Europe.
A commenter on Boing Boing notes:
Just thought it was worth pointing out for the non Canadians here that Olivia Chow is married to Jack Layton, the leader of the federal NDP. The MP Mr. Willaert claims is openly departing from party policy is, in fact, married to the party's leader.
In the spirit of disclosure, I am a member of the Ontario NDP.
The EULA for the Danish version of Vista Business says, "... contact the supplier or installer for information about how to get a refund or a credit note. Could it be clearer?
Let me translate from Danish the actual wording from P-H Kamp's screenshot:
"By taking the software in use you accept these conditions. If you cannot accept the conditions, you do not have the right to use the software. Instead, contact the supplier or who installed the software for information about how to get a refund for the paid amount or a credit note."
The whole EULA is attached to P-H's article as a 12-page PDF and is about the software, not the combination of software and hardware.
I myself have been lucky enough to find netshops willing to sell laptops with Norwegian keyboards WITHOUT an OS, laptops that are OK for my use. As a developer, Poul-Henning Kamp probably has other requirements beyond a national keyboard - that can't be met by those few vendors that dare sell 'naked' laptops.
As a Norwegian I am embarassed by those of my countrymen that routinely describe "Leif Eiriksson" and "Snorre Sturlason" - Snorri was his name, and he was Sturluson - as Norwegians. They were both so Icelandic, although Leifur went to Greenland along with his father and might also be called a Greenlander,,, Snorri's writings are very important to us, too important to want to claim him for our own - especially since he was murdered by order of the then King of Norway. Wet ops even then. Sorry, Iceland.
At the bottom of the/. page for this story, the quip of the day reads:
You can always tell the people that are forging the new frontier. They're the ones with arrows sticking out of their backs.
That "censoring" is so ridiculously easy to get around that it doesn't count as censorship - more like a warning that the site you're looking for probably contains child pornography. I certainly don't envy the people who are maintaining the list!

That's a very small agency under the Ministry of Government Administration and Reform.
To quote the press release:
ODF (ISO/IEC 26300) is to be used to publish documents to which the user should be able to make changes after downloading, e.g. public forms to be filled out by the user. This format is also made obligatory.
I didn't dig much, but all I could find was either html or pdf.
There's a hearing document out mandating open standard formats for communication between local governments as well. And more on topic: Under a previous, non-Labour government, Microsoft tried to get schools to subscribe to a Windows-only system where MS was going to get paid for every computer in the school - including Macs and Linux machines. The government put its foot down and each school district now negotiates for itself.
Actually, burping livestock ...
And almost everyone who says "but it's been hotter before" miss this crucial point. Thank you.
Look, dude, there are other countries on Earth than the US and Afghanistan, even if they aren't mentioned on Fox News.

Sorry - Microsoft has a VERY long and dirty history of bakstabbing, cheating and crushing every entity that trusted them.
I got a message today that the company I work for has been made a Microsoft Gold Partner. Suddenly I am even happier that I'll retire in 3 months ...

Go there and look for the Seashell product.

It clearly advertises GNU/Linux as an option.
