The first time I ever heard about dongles was when the Sinclair QL computer was released in 1984. Since the operating system ended up being larger than originally planned, the early versions had an extra system-ROM cartridge in a dongle at the back.
I am in New Zealand, but there are books in the library that I work at about the "Battle of the Eureka Stockade" more formally known as the Eureka Rebellion. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...
I remember reading about 20 years ago that there was a one-man company that was doing that in New Zealand. From memory it was in Lyttelton; the machine that cut the grooves on the blank records would do them two at a time. I did a quick Google search to try and find the company and managed to find two companies in NZ that use special lathes to cut grooves on blank records.
I have a small connection to this story. One of the co-founders of the company was the internet entrepreneur and space-nut Mark Stevens who changed his name to Mark Rocket. He was one of our tenants and a neighbour to us. I still remember him feeding left-over food to our hens. CEO Peter Beck set up Rocket Lab in 2006 with funding from rocket-mad angel investor Mark Rocket who became a 50% owner until he exited in 2011. Mark Rocket is booked to fly into sub-orbital space with Virgin Galactic and was the first New Zealander to book a flight.
Having recently upgraded to VDSL broadband, I was browsing Youtube a few days ago and typed in "Heaven is a place on Earth". The music video by Belinda Carlisle is rather creepy with masked women in dark uniforms holding illuminated world globes and moving in unison. In the comments section were many comments about the "San Junipero" episode of the "Black Mirror" series. Intrigued, I watched some clips on Youtube about it yesterday. The episode ends with the song playing in the background as the lesbian lovers are reunited again and presumably live happily ever after for all eternity in a virtual reality.
Do you envision batteries being able to run a sophisticated smart watch for at least a week? I would gladly buy such a smart watch if it wasn't overly large and expensive.
In New Zealand, police Taser guns are fitted with a camera that starts recording video as soon as the Taser is switched on. Footage of some incidents has led to police being criticised for their excessive and illegal use of Tasers.

All of the cellphones that our family has are "feature" phones and all of them have an FM receiver. On my latest phone I can listen to the radio without using headphones, so they are not absolutely necessary.

Yes, we do, except that in New Zealand the emergency phone number is not 911, but 111. Dialing 911 will work though, since a lot of people like tourists and NZ children who watched USA TV programs were calling 911, even after they had been reminded of the different number. As a result, the phone companies programmed their systems to accept 911 calls and divert them to 111.
Haven't many companies just finished transitioning to Windows 7 from Windows XP? Now Microsoft is asking them, in short order, to change yet again, to Windows 10.
My understanding of the docking systems is that the old APAS system relied on a heavy vehicle like the approximately 100-ton space shuttle using its momentum to force the docking mechanism to function. The new spacecraft being planned are much smaller and lighter and it would put a big strain on them to apply so much force, plus their docking system would have to be made more robust and hence heavier.

Don't they normally want virgins? I understand that there are a lot of them to be found at computer centers.
Kivis? It's Kiwis actually.

Oops, replying to my own post, a quick search found a more-detailed article on Wikipedia about MOOSE: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...
Sounds like you read about the General Electric MOOSE and the Douglas Paracone.

There is an old saying: The heretic is the person who has nearly the same belief than you.
Your post reminds me of this:
I was walking across a bridge one day, and I saw a man standing on the edge, about to jump off. I immediately ran over and said "Stop! Don't do it!"
"Why shouldn't I?" he said.
I said, "Well, there's so much to live for!"
"Like what?"
"Well ... are you religious or atheist?"
"Religious."
"Me too! Are you Christian or Jewish?"
"Christian."
"Me too! Are you Catholic or Protestant?"
"Protestant."
"Me too! Are you Episcopalian or Baptist?"
"Baptist."
"Wow! Me too! Are you Baptist Church of God or Baptist Church of the Lord?"
"Baptist Church of God."
"Me too! Are you Original Baptist Church of God, or are you Reformed Baptist Church of God?"
"Reformed Baptist Church of God."
"Me too! Are you Reformed Baptist Church of God, reformation of 1879, or Reformed Baptist Church of God, reformation of 1915?"
"Reformed Baptist Church of God, reformation of 1915!"
To which I said, "Die, heretic scum!" and pushed him off.
