And did you read the "encrypted" text below the commentary (greek letters) on the Unix side: As part of the kernel evolution towards modular naming, the functions malloc and mfree are being renamed to rmalloc and rmfree. Compatibility will be maintained by the following asembler code: (also see mfree/rmfree below)
There is not even C code following. So SCO copied the commentary and than put something else in the file.
If they want to charge a fee they will have to tell us what they are charging for. Then we either see that the stuff belongs to them and remove it from the kernel or see that it doesn`t. In either case no payment necessary.
Some people seem too stupid to get the difference between copyright infringement and theft. Theft is physically taking something from somebody and leaving them without that stolen object. Copyright is an artificial measure to create a monopoly in order to further the creation of content. If you infringe on that right you may or may not decrease the probability of the artist (well usually not the artist) to profit from his or her creation (some argue that p2p increases the probabilty). This is completely different to theft and seems to be counterintuative to many people.
of this analysis and you realize that this Professor has either never read the GPL or did not understand it (probably on purpose). He talks about how the GPL requires you to distribute software for free. All other concerns are about liability which creates the same problems for proprietary software with their more than restrictive EULA.
This obviously an elaborate piece of FUD funded by a proprietary software association headed by Microsoft.
Wouldn't SCO employees be better advised to write their resumees, instead of protesting. They probably will have to get new jobs soon. Not that they seem busy doing anything else. And it doesn't matter whether SCO wins or loses. They seem to be an IP (not that they ever created any) only company now and would probably not need many employees, except for lawyers.
It's in the article. I also remember some discussion here in Germany that was just about the problem of those games or programs that are transmitted electronically. This also includes licensing of software purchased abroad and such.
And yes, the shipper should add a customs declaration. I also had to do this when I lived in Japan and sent my stuff back home. You always have to declare the contents of your package. If the declaration is missing, you have to go to your local customs office and identify the conetents and their value. I think in Germany shipments up to a value of 25 Euros don't get taxed. So a single DVD or book is no problem. But when I got my Zaurus C700 I had to go to customs and explain to them what it was and how much it cost.
Some shops, especially DVD vendors, try to do their customers a favor and write something like "modell airplane 10$" on the bill, but that seems to work less and less since customs now knows most of those tricks.
Another problem is the increased attempts of European DVD manufacturers to make importing DVDs as hard as possible. They argue that since US DVDs are not rated in Europe they can't be importated in order to protect the children. In truth, they just want to ensure that they get to sell their often inferior and more expensive products.
This new taxation only concers eletronically transmitted goods. Like an MP3 file or a program. There is no change for physical goods, like books, DVDs or Computers. Those are still taxed when they come through customs. Since non-physical, i.e. transmitted via the net, goods don`t go through customs, they have to find another way to tax it.
According to the injuction that uninvention got from the German courts, if SCO repeat or continue to make their unproven allegations that Linux contains their IP, they can be fined up to 250,000 Euros. So, who is going to make them say it in the conference call?:-)
when he confuses copyright infringement with burglary and theft. This is an alarming show of incompetence by this attorney general. His incompetence in IT matters could have been excused, but seems to be on the same level.

how can they prove that they did not take the linux code and incorporate into their code. The dates and times of code inclusion into linux are pretty well documented, but how can you do that with closed source.
Have a look at this link for help with the P series. Powermanagement is done by longrun. You only need ACPI for suspend which doesn`t work for me yet (I have a Loox T93C the Japanese version of the Lifebook P2120). Longrun handles the processor states. ACPI works for detecting lid close, power button and battery status.
Actually, I was talking about drivers for 805.11g or 805.11a, especially for Cardbus cards. The wusb12 is only 805.11b and usb, which is not very desirable for a notebook or subnotebook. The majority of 805.11g cards use the arm based intersil chipset and they don't give out any information about it. On the other hand intersil offers OEMs an 805.11b/g AP reference platform on a Linux basis.
drivers. Drivers like the ones that Intersil seems to have for their Linux WLAN APs, but won't give any information to Linux wlan driver authors.

punished. The draft text of the law states that circumvention for private use is not allowed, but cannot be punished. It also states that you have the right to make a private copy. It doesn't say you have the right to a private copy. Private use means that you can give a copy to people you have immediate private contact, i.e. friends and family.
An X-Box mod chip is not an illegal copyright circumvention devices. It's an access restriction circumvention device. It gives you access to your X-Box hardware. What you do after that is your responsibility not the vendor's of the chip. He must have had a bad lawyer. He could only be guilty if he included part of MS X-Box ROM on the chip. That would have been a copyright violation. There is no DMCA violation here.
Then set the locale to English and modify the fonts as described at this site . This gives you English Menues and English and Japanese input and gets rid of any mojibake in the Japanese applications. The Zaurus has the same handwriting recognition as all its predecessors which is the best I have ever seen for Kana, Kanji and various alphabets all at the same time.
Considering that you can get the SL-C700 for about 55000 yen in Japan and for $569 at conics.net and switching to English is just editing one file dynamism seems abit steep in their pricing. I am waiting for my shipment from conics right now. In Euros it's even cheaper:).
is adding DES hardware support, which can be used for all kinds of stuff, but doesn't mean that they built in TCPA (see also this article. I think the DES hardware can be very useful, especially for brute forcing keys;).
Ok, so like p2p2p2p2p2p2... -> p2m But when you already have the possibility for multicast, why not just add something to that, to ensure transmission in case of lost packages, like asking a host closer to the sender if it has the required data.

It has no display, so it is not at all like OQO.
BTW, the display shortage is the only thing that is still delaying the OQO launch.

conics will probably ship them. Just ask them.
There is no restriction on the user under the GPL only on the (re)distributer.
