  1. Re:Pomp and circumstance on Toyota Unveils Violin-Playing Robot · · Score: 1

    pomp (pmp)
    n.
1 Dignified or magnificent display; splendor.
2 Vain or ostentatious display. See synonyms at display.

    circumstance (sûr'km-stns')

Seems like the perfect song for unveiling a useless vanity project such as this.

While I don't really like how animals are treated in large scale farms, I don't think vegetarianism is really the answer. People need a little bit of respect for the things they put in their bodies. Maybe eat a little less meat and buy from local farmers who raise and slaughter their own livestock. It is probably a little bit better for you, and actually has taste (especially chicken).

  7. Re:Other way around...? on Why Apple Should Acquire Adobe · · Score: 1

What they would gain is true platform independence. Well, the only way I could think of them gaining true platform independence would be for adobe to buy something like parallels and sell applications as virtual machines that run inside whatever host OS. As long as the VM allowed for drag and drop and cut and paste between the host and VM applications, it would be a lot easier than creating a whole new desktop environment. Also, people could use the web browser and ancillary programs of their choosing.

  10. Re:Finally! on Steve Jobs Announces iPhone SDK · · Score: 1

Love him or hate him, one thing Jobs knows how to do is build anticipation, and manage publicity. He'll take bad press for a while simply so that he can sit on some announcement to greatest spin effect. Yeah. Prior to today's announcement, I had been thinking for a while that there was some sort of SDK in the works.

Adding features like this after the initial "iPhone Killers" have been released keeps other manufacturers from being able to really target the iPhone. Also, I feel that a real polished SDK of the same quality as Xcode might just take that long, especially with the coming release of Leopard. This, as well as other features which I'm sure will be added in the future also allow Apple ways to make the phone a better seller if it didn't sell as well as expected initially.

The only problem I see is when the hardware itself gets updated. If future models are much different from the current ones, it will probably irk a few folks if they can't run new apps on the 1st gen hardware.
