it was confusing enough when java 1.2 was marketed as "java 2," and we subsequently saw java 2 1.3 and java 2 1.4. But java 2 5.0? That's just rediculous.:)
that's like flaming gcc for conforming to the ANSI standard... The C# language definition is an ECMA standard.
Read the actual blog post, it has nothing to do with getting microsoft's permission to develop Mono. All it says is Miguel doesn't think forking Mono away from the ECMA standard is a good idea.
... will will have maybe 512MB of storage, and that's at the high end. So they're useful for the plug-the-mp3-player-into-your-computer-and-grab-so me-tunes-before-going-for-a-jog style of portable music, but not for the here's-my-music-collection-plus-my-home-directory style a hard-disk based player gives you.
Unfortunately without VMWaare's fancy graphics drivers that don't work when the guest OS is DOS it was too slow to play the old game I was interested in (MOO 1).
(But, DOSBox worked once I played with frameskip!)
I think it's cool that we have these options today.
either it's not coming out in 2005, or these are way higher than the actual specs. One or the other.
In 2005, 3.5 GHz G5-equivalents ALONE will be going for more than the $300 presumed price of a new console. Add in the price of a high-end graphics card and MS will lose money hand over fist.
I can see them being willing to lose $100 per unit but $300? No way.
that "when the price dropped relative to when the game was introduced" would be the more interesting question, which the author does not address (though he does list this in "possible improvements).
I got FFVII and a PS1 memory card to go with it, only to find out that FF7 is the Most. Overrated. Game. Ever. I guess the graphics must have been good for the time, because the plotting and characters are nothing to write home about.
(I didn't have a PS1 since I was a diehard PC gamer until I got married.)
BeOS's only real chance came before their egotistical CEO turned down apple's offer of more than they were worth. Apple went with NeXT, and Be went... nowhere.

oops.
I'm cheering for the Mono guys but I don't see how they can avoid being also-rans in the compatibility race.

when I saw the screenshots, I thought I'd died and gone to hell, what with seeing CDE in use in 2004.

then you should shell out a couple hundred bucks for VMWare.

when you close the BT instance that was downloading/uploading a file, that's it, you're done uploading.
With WW you keep uploading as long as it's in your Temporary Internet Files or wherever WW put it.
riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight... :)
man, when you think that with just a little more effort they could have come up with an acronym for BIONIC... :(

you need female game designers; coders, whether male or female, just do what they're told for the most part.
he says he overclocked a 1.42 GHz g4 to 1.5 GHz.
who the hell cares?
takes TMMM as an endorsement of everything XP. That's not what I took home from it...
:)
I guess eye of the beholder and all that.
"When I was your age"
:)
go purchase it legally from itunes or something
the guy whose auction you linked has a couple dozen magazine subscriptions for sale, all 2-4 year, all under $10. I don't get it. What's the catch?
no, I'm not planning to bid. :)
holy crap, if you don't know what the word means don't bother replying.
Actually, I seem to remember that Linus's wife is some kind of Finnish martial arts champion. :)
