The problem is if you went through the effort to do compile the stats, you still couldn't add it to the wikipedia article because it would be 'original research'. I think wikipedia needs to deal with this somehow. I've got two complementary ideas:
1) For trivial things (like pop-culture), allow original research.
2) Have an area on wikipedia, where people can essentially make detailed 'blog-like' postings, where they can put their original research. This only works for 'original research' which is essentially compiling statistics.
I'll be happy if they just get the off-line co-op working decently. Halo 1 & 2 had horrible co-op support. IIRC, in Halo 1, you had to beat a level single handedly before you could play it co-op, and there was no way to save progress in a co-op mission. Halo 2 was slightly better in that you didn't have to beat the level in single player mode first, but you still couldn't save progress in co-op, so if you didn't finish a mission, you had to start over the next time you sat down.

many of her edits to articles related to the bombing were permanently removed from the database in an attempt to conceal her identity. AFAIK, the only way to permanently remove edits from the database is if you had some sort of admin privileges. If there is evidence of this happening doesn't this imply a cover up by some one high up at wikipedia?
The GP probably meant Manhattan when they said NYC. If you look at the detailed report, you'll see that in Manhattan the obesity rate is 8-15%. That is well below the national average.
It's just disk space - why not let it stay. I have seen several articles disappear that I thought were worthwhile (the one on slashdot culture was great, and is gone).
So then the real story here is that Wii sales plummeted. 381800 Wiis (up 13%) in 5 weeks = 76360 sales/week 337876 in the previous 4 weeks = 84469 sales/week
A drop of almost 10%. Although still better than any one else, XBOX360 sales increased over the same time period. I wonder if this trend will continue.
In any case, maybe some of the people who haven't been able to get a Wii will finally have more luck.
I hear people complain all the time that NPR is liberally biased. I'm curious if you can point to an example or two where you found this to be true. In my experience the only bias I've noticed on NPR news (not commentary - which itself is rare) is in story selection. NPR is much more likely to do a story about the plight of the poor or international issues than most other news sources. Is that what you are talking about?
From what I have seen NPR (like PBS) is more of a 'just the facts' organization, so there is little bias.
NPR around here is two stations - one plays classical/jazz and one is news. The news station plays lots of interesting music, either in reviews, new pieces, or just as an intro/outro to something. I've heard everything from Fish, Cake, TMBG, Soul Coughing, etc. Especially the intro/outro music. Anything that's kind of different they'll take a 20-30sec clip of and use.
Go to Target (or similar) and get a pre-paid phone. They run as cheap as $20, and the cheap ones don't have a camera or anything. This might not work if the cell phone is going to be here primary phone, because the rates would be to high. We bought ours when there was a sale and for about $85 we got a nokia phone & $115 worth of t-mobile minutes @ 10 cents a minute. The minutes expire after a year, but supposedly if you buy a $15 recharge card they will extend them for another year.
I just recently got back from a trip, where one day my CF card failed in the middle of the day. I had been making backups each night of my photos, so luckily I only lost the photos from the first half of that day. But it got me thinking - the way cameras work now, unless you backup after every picture (a time consuming and unrealistic idea), you are always going to be at risk of losing your photos from a CF corruption.
I thought of two possible solutions:
1) Have a camera that holds two CF cards. This was a DSLR camera (meaning a fairly large body), and CF cards are small and cheap, so why not have a camera that takes two cards, and writes in parallel to both of them?
2) Have a wireless connection that after each pic, sends the data to an off camera storage. If you can do this wireless, it seems it should be trivial to have redundant off camera storage that are both served wirelessly. I don't know if this new technology quite gets you to that point, but it's a step in the right direction.
I agree gerrymandering is a problem, but I think there is an even more fundamental solution. We need something like instant run off voting (or actually any kind of multi-voting system). People are too afraid of 'throwing away their vote', so they vote for the 'least evil' of the two major candidates. Some kind of multi-voting system would (I think) make 3rd parties more viable, and help to destroy the entrenched political problems.
I don't know about getting all the various column details you want, but you can definitely drop to a dos shell and do something like c:>dir > foo.txt .
The plasma membranes of the sperm and oocyte then fuse, and the sperm nucleus is engulfed by the oocyte's cytoplasm. This fusion induces the cortical reaction, wherin granules in the oocyte secrete enzymes into the extracellular space beneath the zona pellucida. These enzymes destroy the sperm receptors on the zona pellucida, preventing any other sperm from binding to and entering the egg.
Hey, how about little warning next time! Some of us are reading this at work - I hope my boss didn't happen to walk by when I had that pulled up.

I thought slashdotters hated Monsanto! Or is that just on weekends? Come on people lets see some consistency here.

excellent summary of the heart of the matter.
I saw Moore claim that they also sent in an an unknown person who posed as a Cuban citizen, and got the exact same treatment.

don't worry. By posting in this discussion, you've undone all moderations in this discussion.
wow - kinda sucks that fark.com gets such a nice reference for their culture/in-jokes, but the slashdot one on wikipedia is always getting removed.

WooHoo! Ah best game ever. I still have dreams of skiing/jetting over a hill and planting a spinfuser in some unsuspecting enemy face.
