At least major ISPs are recognizing that trojans and spammers are a major issue. I wish more ISPs would maintain a blacklist of trojaned and spamming computers, that takes some of the hassle up farther upstream, so it isn't wasting my bandwidth when I recieve a crap load of spam, or trojan attacks (Code Red comes to mind).
This is a heaven sent, and more ISPs should follow suit.
I remember the good ol' days of rocket launching, always a blast; Estes was awesome back in the day. Have any of you seen the movie October Sky, that was an excellent film.
Anyways, they had all kinds of scale rockets, and planes, nowhere near this detail though, but fun none the less.
Ouch. . . Sports reference on/. how scary is that. I'm curious to the number of people out there that get this reference, I also like the Tennessee Oilers, but that is just me.
Yay!!! Yet another device that is going to revolutionize the world!! First the Segway, now Nintendo is releasing another world halting device!! I can barely contain myself to all the devices that are completely reshaping my world!!
Yeah, you're preaching to the choir there brother, I'm a DJ, so I like to make copies of all my cds anyways, because they are such an investment to me. But I use Cool Edit Pro in windows (I have no sound card in either of my linux boxen, they are both servers), but normalizing the audio in both Cool Edit Pro, and Easy CD-DA extractor, all normalizing really does for either of these programs is checks the current levels on each of the songs and makes them more "normal". Normalizing doesn't raise the songs db in either one of these programs. In Cool Edit Pro, I have to bump up the songs amplitude like as much as 30 db, especially for that Pepper album I mentioned.
I'm still curious as to why Volcom did such an awful job on mastering that CD (whether they did it themselves, or outsourced it), but I feel like I could have mastered that CD better.
While louder isn't always better, I must say, if an album is mastered at too low of a volume level it drives me nuts.
Say for instance there is an album where it has about a 33% lower volume level than all my other CDs, when being played in my cd changer, when the next CD comes on, your ears are blown out because now this CD is about 33% higher volume than the previous.
The worst CD mastering I've run into in recent times, is Pepper's album "Give'n It". It's volume has got to be close to 50% less than the average CD.
I know it isn't required by the FCC for licensing (as I stated in my post, I don't know morse) yet I have my FCC HAM license. There are certain priviledges you receive if you do pass the code test. But yes FCC does seem to be slowly phasing it out, however I don't think they ever will get rid of it completely.
I can't really see this as the next wave in computer usage. Being a HAM (unskilled at morse as it be), I like to see people still using Morse code to communicate, however, I really don't see this as being a huge wave. Although, who knows? Maybe it will teach more and more people (hopefully the younger generation) an appreciation for morse, and might get more people as licensed HAMs.
I really hate using Ni-Cad batteries, they develop a memory on them, only allowing you to charge them up a less substantial amount over time. Even chargers that try and erase the ni-cads memory (completely discharges them before charging) degrade the battery quality.
As far as other sorts of rechargables, I have had great experiences with Li-Ion batteries for my digital camera and other various things.
This has got to be the biggest troll/flaimbait posting ever
Red Hat in itself isn't an operating system, it is a distribution of linux. The licensing is what keeps Microsoft from stealing code from linux and putting it into their own operating system and selling it. MS-DOS didn't originally have a TCP/IP stack, in fact Microsoft didn't really introduce networking features until Windows 3.11 for Workgroups. If you don't understand the importance of the linux shell, bash is one of the many, then maybe you should reconsider using linux. There are a shitload of games out there available for linux, and there are comparable Office software, and somewhat-comparable internet browsing software.
This news is not new. It has been known that for record sales and MP3 sales, that the artists generally pull in a very low percentage of the income made.
Just ask the good majority of music artists out there, that they make more money from their touring rather than their actual record sales (in this case MP3 sales).
This is how its going to be until the artists and the labels reform their relationship, but I have a strong feeling that this is not going to be happening any time soon. This sort of news always gets people wishing that the media industry was different, and gains a lot of sympathy for the talented artists out there.
That might be true, if they weren't venturing into any other computer market other than graphics. Considering they got one of the hottest chipsets (nForce 2) for AMD CPUs right now, I don't see them going completely downhill in all their computer markets.
First of all, what does this Lexan material do after 48 hours? Does it desinigrate? What if the disc doesn't last the full 48 hours, are they liable for the remaining time on the disc?
I'm also curious to the cost of these discs, and wondering if they will provide a viable option for production companies to record on.
Finally, I just have issues with the usefulness of a self-destructing DVD, I know it would be nice for trials of software and stuff, but honestly, I can't see them being that useful.
I'm not really into conspiracy theories, and generally not very paranoid; but this really makes you think of what "Big Brother" or anyone for that matter can do to track people.
I wonder what all the future applications of this device will be? I wonder if in the future they will require known convicted felons to wear these? Just think about all the scary applications such devices can be put to.
Which brings up a question; Should Religion be a question on a national census form?
If people are getting offended by the race question on the U.S. census form, I can just imagine the number of people that are going to get pissed off by a religion question.
I'm going to tell my children stories of Steven Cohen and his values of perseverence.
I also wonder if someone (other than the courts) can evaluate the sex.com websites value ($65 million is what the courts ruled, don't know if that includes any other charges with it). But I can only imagine the money sex.com could bring in.

Due to the impending lawsuit from Levi Strauss & Co. (tm), IBM has decided to name the machine the alternative: "Joshua".
It will also be able to play simple games such as tic-tac-toe
< Insert other goofy "War Games" similarities here >

In a sick, sick, way I find it humorous on how they actually brag or boast about how they decreased the reboot time of the computer.
Sounds sort of scary to me the such a critical component needs to be rebooted at all, boy, I'm glad I'm not a test-pilot.

Where is the high tech device to keep you from losing your wallet? "I Lost My Wallet in El Segundo" [www.atcq.com]

I can just imagine the whole religion recruitment process.
1) Do you have a girlfriend?
2) Besides having a girlfriend, do you ever have sex?
3) Do members of the opposite sex dare speak with you?
If you answer No to these questions, you should join our church, The Church of the Jedi!

I'd build a giant robot to crush your little 3.5" floppy bots. I'd build a bot out of one of those old Iomega Bernoulli drives.
I will crush all your tiny bots!!
This would be the perfect addition to my cardboard house, made of a cardboard box that once contained a refridgerator!
Which reminds me of an awesome idea. Maybe they should create a console based pachinko game!
Yay!! Imagine the fun!!
You mean we can't count on spoilers being posted in everybody's post on Slashdot anymore?
So what do you call it when they "land" in the water?
