The first iphone was shit, no video camera, no picturemail, no internal expandable memory card slot, no switchable battery, etc, even the iphone 3g in 2008 didn't have
most of that. The one thing it did have was a touch screen that actully worked close to a
psychical keyboard and a OS that worked. Us a windows mobile phone for 10 minutes then a
iphone for 10, you go, hey, thats so much better!
The OS will make or break
a internet tablet and I'm sorry but android is a long way from being good enough
This is everquest they surveyed. It's bee known for at lest 5 years a lot of housewifes play EQ and EQ2. EQ has for a long time been the last bastion of hardcore social MMO gaming, like the MMO's of the 90s (yes they did exist). I'm not surprised the people who play a lot on EQ2 are female, the males would have moved on to the shiny new but less social games.
I would wager a survey of WoW would be the much less so, along with The Lord of the Rings Online, Lineage II, Age of Conan,
Final Fantasy XI, Dark age of Camelot, Aion, etc. With maybe Eve being split a little more evenly for hardcore players.
Film is analog and doesn't have resolutions. Number of lines are only there by the choice and availability of technology used to scan them for dvd's and tv. Watching a 35mm print in a theater does not have 'lines'
It's widely agreed 35mm prints have more 'information' then any digital format. When you see a lot of movies you can intently tell when the projector is a digital and when it's film, Digital is always a lesser quality picture.
True. However predicting current events is much more accurate, if still imprecise, then inferring the result of single event from 5 million years go. Especially when we can see if our predictions come true.
hm, It's fun to think about, but any single advent 5 million years ago as such as this is sufficiency complex enough to render any proof impossible. They are basing this speed of months on mountain stream modals. Even if the Math was prefect, the result is fundamentally flawed.
Are you serious? How do you create a 'open stranded'? IEEE Is as viable a entity to do so as any. For example the Linux community or the FOSS community can't create a stranded for dirt. For hardware it's even worse. They want anyone to be able to change or add to any part of it if any person thinks it might be a improvement. The whole point of such a hardware/firmware stranded is so
Joe Smith can buy a router and know it will work with his NIC and give the best speeds supported. I don't really get want you mean by open standard, open and standard don't really go together. You have to get some hardware vendors behind you or a group with some weight to endorse a standard or anyone will just come up with their own 6 months later and try to obsolete yours.
DLC is as easy to get around as CD in drive locks, game serials,
online activation (spore), etc. It's already happening, just wait awhile if you haven't heard about it yet, the DLC is out
there for free too.
The only thing that's hard to get around when pirating is online multiplayer on official servers.
I own some Nvidia 3d active shutter glasses, and we are still a long way from 3d being good enough to be worth it. By the time the tech makes the leaps to make it HOW YOU ACTUALLY perceive things, I bet they will have 3d TV's/ full color holograms, no need for glasses. You are always aware of the cone watching 3d. They can bring things out of the screen but the closer the objects get to you on z axis , the narrow the y axis.
Scenes never look like real life. They look like a 3d movie. 85% of the time you are aware 'this is a effect'
I've seen the latest 3d movies in the theaters the 3dfanboys have hardon's for, and they are not any better. Children care about this, because they
don't know better. It also makes movie watching just a little too active. In real life your eyes would foucs differently on a object close up, but here everything is the same
distance from you, the distance to the screen. Making watching 3d a little,...active. I suppose you would get used to it thou. When they can make watching a movie look like watching a play, I'll start caring
Some people find it meditative, it can just be a way to relax and not think for a 20 minute break. As this any worse then watching that tivo'd simpsons repeat episode again? I also know a lot of people get accounts because their friends want them to because you need certain number of friends to get certain items, but the friends while havng a farm, never actually use it
there are lots of reasons you can't use company/school equipment for non company tasks besides money. Anyone who's had a real job would know this. You always want to reduce you attack surface, or risk. If it's not part of your/the companies job you don't do it. They don't have time to review every software project for legal concerns, and why should they bother even one hour of lawyer time on it anyways? Even if it's painfully clear there is no legal concern, it doesn't matter, the law can be tricky, and the default answer is always to restrict. Man have people gotten fat and soft! I know of someone that got fired back whenever for using the copier to copy a 10 page personal document. But you say, 'thats like less then 2 pennies worth of ink and paper!' You think it matters? Also there is the assumption that if you did this, what else have you copied or will copy? You know they audit the copies mileage meter on copiers, if the office next to yours has 10% less copies in the same time frame, they are going to ask you why and to cut your copying.
Do not, -do -not tell me the SETI did not cost the school money in electricity , whether it was $100, or $100,000. Any tech person could tell you it did. If just one, just one PSU or part burned out, so much the worse. "Well I didn't know that would happen" boss "well you shouldn't have been doing it in the first place". Grow up people. Running a business is hard, and the boss sees this and goes "wtf, your playing with my money" 'My Money'. A school is if anything worse because it's public funds.
Eufloria is another one of those wayyyy over hyped indie games that is supposedly elegant, but actually is just rather simple. I found the gameplay shallow and the art design produced a big 'eh' from me. It's kind of sad, the best indie games are the ones that are/not/ polished, or have outdated graphics but still mange something special. But all the indie games people feel comfortable talking about is the ones with rounded edges but still less fun then what's on the cover of gaming weekly.
It's like people want to support non-main stream developers (there are tons of them) but are afraid if they suggest that horror mind bender with 2001 graphics people will no be open to it.
tis true. The mini laptop thin client is a device in search of a purpose. If I just want to read email and listen to mp3s and web surf, I can do that on a blackberry or HTC Win Mobile fine. I have 16gig microsd card in mine. Anything beyond that and I might as well get a real laptop. They are taking things away without adding anything. [Don't believe for one second it will be virus or bug free]. A normal winxp netbook goes anywhere a Chrome OS netbook goes and does x10 more.
if Apple ever came out with that rumored tablet/slate, that would be the device to get if you really just want a locked down device that feels like a oversized smartphone. Come to think of it, all you'd really need is small screen with a behind the back docking for your iphone or other smartphone and you'd have a great netbook.
"OS effectively turns a netbook into a thin client. All applications will be web apps, all data will be stored in the cloud and the operating system will be booted from Flash - no hard disks will be supported."::frowny face::
"it's very simple to use, there's nothing to maintain. It should just work."
HA HA, oh wow.
"All user data will be stored in the cloud, with the operating system only using local flash memory for caching data such as settings."
Why? I have good internet but it doesn't have 100% uptime or no lag. So every personal photo will be uploaded? and if I want to edit it, re downloaded or at least a snap shot of it? Will the editing happen in the cloud, meaning lag before I see every crop and color adjustment? or will it download and have my low grade cpu do all the processing then reupload it every time? not to mention God help you if you have a porn collection like 99.9% of guys with computers I know. so all my legally bought and ripped dvds will have to be uploaded to a cloud? Then streamed back to me?
"If your cloud is down it affects any computer you're on," he said. "I'd like to see a comparison of the cloud with what you have today. I think the cloud will compare very, very favorably."
Ok now you are just lying through your teeth or are just really dumb [marketing]. I can work or play for hours without my internet plugged in, thank you. Also my laptop does the same in or out of wi-fi.
I. Powerful GPUs are known to perform extremely well on password cracking, and PS3s certainly have them.
Just a note, the PS3s GPU isn't so powerful, based off the nvidia G70 and was, rumor has it, tacked on late in hardware development. The 8 Cell powerpc cpu core's with one dedicated to aspects of the OS and security, and one is a spare to improve production yields. Leaving 6, is where the ps3 gets the bulk of it's processing power.
"...emails. IRC topics also benefit from url shorteners. "
yes, but those are all fast access, short type, places where you use net speak to type as fast as you can. Like GP said, thy should only be used to share links the person sharing knows the full url already. Anything that is going to persist longer then a day should have the direct link. You don't bookmark redirects or put then on static web pages. Also email doesn't really benefit from a redirect link. You can always hide it in a html tag if you think it will confuse people
It is down right good. The colors used have a life and brightness to them so often lacking in games. It's the first game in a long time where I turn the sound up because the music and the battle explosions sound awesome. It seems almost everyone is voiced and the voice acting is not bad. The story is good and the diolog is good. The game play is fun and engaging. It's does everything well, and somethings amazing.
this is true, and anyone who has researched the medical information in the field, not the popular information, knows that. There are many reasons, such as ones parent said. Another is you can scale up weight/resistive training. You jog for an hour, all you can do is jog faster. Only so fast you can run before you tear up your knees, and it becomes a sport that you train elsewhere for. Weight training however, in the same hour, you can slowly add weight every week and be burning a lot more per hour. It also increases your resting metabolic weight because you have more muscle mass. After 6 months you'll be doing a lot more in your one hour 3 times a week thing someone who only jogs, or only does other aerobics. But you say, everything I read says aerobics burn more calories? No, not really, anaerobic exercise is much more effective but you can only to it for very short periods. The popularity of aerobic exercise is based on biased math.
regarding TFA, 12 weeks is nothing if you haven't been training at all before, it takes that much time just to get to the point where you can do sustained intense stuff if you are out of shape, and to turn your set point around. That's what sucks about exercise, very little instant gratification if you are doing it right. Talk to me after 6 months of a increasing more intense work out, talk to me after a year. If you lose it too fast, you are going to being losing muscle as well as fat and that will make it much harder to keep off
I can't open TFA, [Slashdotted?] but based on your link it doesn't seem so bad. Finger Memory works just as well on a mouse as a keyboard and once you learn buttons, I think it could be useful. Have a button to close program in 1 click, I suggest a alt+f4 style so you are still prompted to save if relevant. Lots of stuff I do daily I don't keep my other hand on the keyboard consistently. Copy, Paste, select all, would also be good all around fuctions. I"m sure if you use a certain apps you can think of more. skip to next song? so you don't have to tab to the mp3 player or stop clicking through web sites.
Just because it hasn't been done successfully doesn't mean it can't be
or the controlling doctrine, case law, etc. 'People Should be secure their persons, houses, papers and effects' IS the 4th amendment. It's been a part of common law for 500 years. A email is just a electronic letter, once again, a email is just a electronic letter, and they have no more right to it on am ISP server then they do reading letters at the post office.
It's official, the Nobel Peace Prize has Jumped the shark.
For the record I'm strongly democrat. This is basically supposed to be the highest international honer you could ever earn. Hillary Clinton would have been a better choice, not a good one, but better. At least she has some done real leg work in the awards statement ""to the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses.".
Heck, why not give it to Bill for his past efforts in the former soviet block

no one ever said that about color. You might be thinking of the switch to wide screen formant
there have been several models of TV that can actually display 120 hz
99.9% of HDTV's on the market do not do 120 hz
