amoral
Not admitting of moral distinctions or judgments; neither moral nor immoral.
Lacking moral sensibility; not caring about right and wrong.
immoral \Im*mor"al\, a. Not moral; inconsistent with rectitude, purity, or good morals; contrary to conscience or the divine law; wicked; unjust; dishonest; vicious; licentious; as, an immoral man; an immoral deed.
Immoral would be the word to use, they did care about morals, hence the "public image", the did care about "right and wrong" they just wanted to do the wrong thing to make money.
Whenever one of these stories come up you seem to get two different responses - the first is "who needs a degree, they are just bits of paper" the second is "Ha, all you dot commers are just a bunch of script copiers who are now finding it hard"
I have a degree, it comes in useful, it allows you to put letters after your name and looks good on your CV. And I would actually say they were the best 3 years of my life, and I would have no hesitation recommending University to anyone. Although a Degree with no experience is a pain, job experience with a degree will put, maybe, 20% onto your salary.
But if university is not an option have a look here where if your are good enough I suppose you could qualify with a BSc in 2 years, and then go on to an MSc.
Also have a look at the BCS as their qualifications are to degree standard (although you would have *BCS after your name instead).
1) Because they think it's good
2) Someone else thinks its good, and they want to be seen in the same light.
I haven't seen 50% of the top 10, I have seen Godfather, Godfather 2, Citizen Kane, Star Wars, & LoTR.
But it gets me eevry time *why* is Citizen Kane considered an all time top 10? Have the people who voted for it actually seen it? I bought it because of the hype... boy was I dissapointed - the words "extremely" and "boring" come to mind.
Sorry for being a philistine, but it seem to me people vote for "old" films because they think they should, because they are supposed to be classics.
And if you reply to this also I want a synopsis that explains why Citizen Kane is good and why I am wrong, just so I can be shown the error of my ways.
Lets use an example of why I think things are going wrong.
Supplier A "gives" software away and sells support.
When times are good customers pay for the support, well because they can afford it. When times are bad, people cut overheads, one overhead that could be ripe for major trimming is outside IT support. Now if a customer buys a new PC, or needs the software upgraded then they can do it themselves. Supplier A loses out on the support contract, because its argued they are not needed.
Supplier B sells software and support
Supplier B charges people for the software & for support. When times are good people will be convinced to pay for both, when they are bad they cut support. Now if someone buys a new PC, or needs the software upgraded they have to pay Supplier B not only for the software, but also for the cost of installing/updateing the software.
"Because earning money is the definition and meaning of life of a private corporation..."
How true, all a company cares about is its shareholders. If it can get away with something, it generally will. (what was the name of that Ford car with the fuel tank at the back that kept exploding? The decided it would be cheaper to take the litigation costs than fix it, so they didn't)
The only glaring example I can see the reverse of is Volvo. Did you know they developed and patented the 3 point seat belt, then gave everyone royalty free rights to use it. I wonder if they would do the same now they are owned by ford?
I did read when the tax forms came online they didn't work properly - you could fill everything in online and submit it.
But at the other end it was printed out and added to all the manual tax returns to be inputed by some data entry clerk.
One word - *doh*
I think it has been fixed now (just to be slashdotty I believe the system was developed by... no I won't say it but GUESSWHO)

I suppose if you were starting a business the you would need much more than the fuzzy stuff here.
1. Its a DVD player, that plugs into your TV.
2. Its a MP3 Ripper and Player that can plug into your sound system - Hmmm, maybe a "pro" version that allows burning .
3. You also get to play all old MAME games.
(4 if you really wanted too, you could turn it into a computer with a Kboard+Mouse+Printer etc)
Costwise would you need so much power?
Distribution, well I suppose you would have to look at independant games/electronics retailers, or maybe the "Gadget Shop" type places.
Target demographic? Probably 23+ (people who remember Hypersports & have a bit of spare cash).

I wonder if it would work as a home entertainment system?
DVD player, MP3 Ripper/Player, MAME Game box. I suppose you could write some sort of "Menu" interface so you an control everything via a game pad.
I wonder how much it would cost to make, and how much you could get away with selling it for.
> The term "Queen" is an honorary title, most likely kept for the sake of tradition.
Hmmm, maybe, but no effort was made to explain why. All it would have taken was a comment about traditions.
> In some cultures right here, a person is considered an adult at 12.
I doubt you would find a 12 year old elected to be in charge of a country, let alone a planet.
> Shhhhh..... Writer's error.
Considering how much they spent on the film.... it should definately be kept quite.
> Suspension of disbelief. It's something we do when we watch movies.
Yes I know, but thats not really what I meant. The story isn't being consistant within itself, I mean c'mon I accept the flying spaceships, the lightsabres, lightspeed travel and all the other stuff, but on the one hand to say the Sith are secrative and then choose someone who just sticks out like a saw thumb. It seems we are being asked not only to suspend out disbelief for the film, but also to ignore the story it tells.
> Geeze, you overanalyze too much, you know?
Maybe your right, but in the end it only my opinion - I thought the podrace was fun to watch and had great graphics, it just didn't gel with the story. Maybe I just like things to be consistent. Maybe I am disapointed that George Lucas couldn't produce what I wanted.
Ah, you've really put me in my place. I now know where I have gone wrong.
* Don't offer an opinion unless you can do better.
* Don't complain about something *you* think is "alright" else it is just whinging.
* Don't complain, don't offer an opinion, especially on a forum, because well, you should get on with your life.
Thank you for your input, it was much appreciated and your advice will be followed.
From what I have read and seen of the prequels I have been pretty much dissapointed in the way the story seems to be going.
Bad things about the Phantom Menace
* Why was a Queen elected? The very fact that she is a Queen makes election, well stupid.
* Why was a 16 year old elected as "Head of Goverment?"
* Whats this mediclorine crap?
* Why was Anakins acting so, whats the word I am looking for... shit?
* The Trade federation, I wouldn't ask them to go and get me a pint of milk let alone capture a planet.
* Why was R2D2 given a "special commendation" when all the other droids were referred as "We're losing doids..."
* What was the rubbish about Anakin not having a father?
* why did his mother let him race, risking life and limb for strangers - yet she wouldn't let him go to bed late.
* Why was Anakin too old, yet Luke was, what, 18-22 when yoda started training him.
* Why does Ben Konobi seem a bit of a wimp?
* What's with the stupid braids?
* Darth Maul - what the hell was all that makeup all about, surely if you were trying to lie low (which is what I assume the sith do) why be so bloody obvious with black makeup and horns.
* Jar Jar Binks - erm, yea.
* Pod Race - great graphics, but WHY!
* Jugan Qui (or whatever) he looked like a tramp, not a bloody Jedi Knight.
Good things About the Phantom Menace
* Light sabres actually being used (Like through the blast doors)
* The senates power struggles
* Senator Palpatine
* Senator Palpatines "We'll be watching you" comment to Anakin.
Bad things about the Clone Wars
* Crap Name
* Ben Konobi looks like a tramp with a beard.
* Stupid Braids in Anakins hair
Good Things about the Clone Wars
* No Jar-Jar?
What I hope for is a damn good story as why Anakin is drawn to the darkside - his friends turing on him, maybe the Jedi council manipulated into betraying him, the Emporer convincing him that he has the Galaxys interest at heart etc etc. An actual choice, rather than using a promise to justify somthing. ("Yes master I will train him"... gets Obi Wan right off the hook)
I know in Europe there is a "Moral Right" that goes along with copyright, which can be signed away - basically it includes the right to be the named Author(s) of a piece of work.
If the same is "Moral Rights" are available in the US then surely it becomes a case of simple copyright infringement, rather than a GPL infringement?
(If you look in any recently published UK book you will usually see 'The moral right of the Author has been asserted')
I believe its a very short-sighted policy to think that we must keep our oil costs down at any cost
You do realise that OPEC keeps oil prices artificially high - its all to do with supply and demand you see. If the price drops too much, OPEC countries don't make thier money so they restrict the production of oil.
But they ain't stupid, they know if prices go too high people will look at alternate fuels and fuel sources.
They also know that if prices are too high it can effect the economies of thier buyers, reducing demand and therefore pushing the prices down.
If you came up with an alternative to oil that was cheap, efficent and clean who do you think would buy your politicians, buy your backers and make life difficult as possible for you?
The Geheimschreiber T-52a+b that Beurling cracked was not the same as the Lorenz Schlusselzusatz or "Enigma" which the British concentrated on.

And then remakably daft thinking for selling it off, imagine, we could all be running LyonsOS sugar coated edition, or NiceStep.
Could you imagine if we had kept Pounds, shillings and pence and tried to change it now.
I wonder what the Suns headline would be? "decirubbish" followed up by "We don't need no fangled eurocratic decimalisation here!"
Strange to think, One and two shilling were still legal tendar about 10/12 years ago - as 10 and 5 pence pieces.
I've got a Goodmans one (came with a carkit too - my car is old and crap) it only cost £50, what maybe $75, although probably cheaper.
Only things are it doesn't do CD/RW discs, makes some "popping" noises now and again, but otherwise pretty much okay.

And that will make it ready for the desktop?
You will probably find that TVs are banned in Afganastan, so I assume "DVDs" would also be banned.
Probably, the penalty is beheading. But at least it would be for (supposed) religous reasons and not the protection of some companies profits.
