"Moore is not a caring guy, if he was he woudln't be making any $$$ here."
Caring people by definition don't make money? Since when? And what idiot moderated you up? Say what you will about Moore, but at least try to make sence with what you do say.
I think that what the government is saying is that people usually do not own mineral rights. Or airspace rights. Or, so it seems, unlimited radio reception and decryption rights.
It's a shitty state of affairs. And I have a feeling that no matter who gets elected, these kinds of things will not change.
See what happens when a few employees at a restaurant chain sing "Happy Birthday" to a customer or two... If the RIAA finds out, that restaurant will immediately get a bill for royalties and/or a lawsuit. Face it, they own our culture already, and charge us to use it.
Actually you do. If you read the F. article, Montsanto wasn't awarded a penny in damages. So where's the profit? Seems like a pretty toothless ruling to me.
Why do you think it cost you 30 Euro to buy the printer in the first place... Their gardener hoses off the printers, and puts them back in a box, and ships it back to the stores.
I'd do that, if I were them.

"3. Feminism is a good thing though! It's anti-male-ism, reverse discrimination, and political correctness that are hurting us."
I think the problem is, that feminism has become indistinguishable from anti-male-ism, reverse discrimination, and political correctness. If you remove those qualities from what feminism is today, you'll find there's very little left.
I'd still buy it. I don't give a crap about laptop battery life, because I always treat laptops as portable desktop units, and I've always got a plug handy. The last time my battery in my laptop went below 90% was when the power went out.
This think kicks ass. I just wish it was better than 1024x768.
Nah, that was just the morning. The sun's out now, and it's decently warm out. (For September that is.) Like they say, "If you don't like the weather in Edmonton... Wait 5 minutes."
I have one complaint about the MX500. (Don't get me wrong, I love it.) When using my old cordless variety, I could re-map the thumb button to just about any key or key combo I wanted. (This kicks ass in AutoCAD.) For some stupid reason, I can't do this for my MX500.
Sure, they let you chose any F key, or some Windows functions, etc... But they won't let you do custom key or key combos any more. At least, I can't figure out how find those options. Does anyone know any way to get an MX500 to do this?
I had that problem with my old logitech cordless optical variety. It drove me nuts. My MX500 doesn't do that, even though the wheel looks similar superficially. The only time I was able to get my old cordless to stop doing that was when I stripped my mouse down to it's parts and cleaned every part of the roller assembly. But alas, my girlfriend owns 4 cats, so fairly soon, some hair again gummed it up.
If you say your MX500 is doing that, then I would be quite surprised. My MX500 survives quite a beating, heavy daily use, and a not so clean environment, and I havn't had to do any maintenance yet.
Ownership of culture. That's what it boils down to. American culture is owned by corps. It's taken to the extreme. Hell you can't even sing "Happy Birthday" to someone at work unless you pay the RIAA a royalty.
A people's culture is a lot like food and water. And there's a huge cartel that owns most of American culture. And they keep changing the laws, so they will keep owning it forever.
"Then clue me in, oh enlightened one. You have obviously attained a level of understanding of the true nature of our political reality far beyond my own."
I think the only part of my understanding that's past yours, is recognizing what doesn't work to change the big issues. (Letter writing.) Beyond that, I havn't a clue, other than some suggestions that would be more of a stab in the dark rather than educated opinion.
But knowing what the viable alternatives are is hardly a prerequisite for noticing that letter writing has little or no effect.
I don't have all the answers. I just know what doesn't work.
They have everything to do with your congressman. Each one is involved in a system that has very little to do with the opinions of the masses. Some, like Bill Gates or Saddam Hussein or your congressman PROCLAIM to have support of the masses, but in fact it's more of a coercive relationship in one way or another. Sure your congressman got elected by the people, but it was the corps who get to chose the slate.
Writing letters to these kind of people has absolutely no effect. If you're lucky, some might pretend to listen to you, or even pretend to improve things (windows update patch, ineffectual law, etc..) but in reality nothing changes because people at large are not in the loop, and never will be.
Call me a cynic and tell me to go away.
Or accept the truth, and then start doing things differently, to effect REAL change. Hint: Letters ain't it.
"Here is a simple fact: Corporations do not vote, citizens do."
Adding to that fact, the only thing corporations do is ensure that their choice of candidate gets bucketloads of money to get the word out, while their opponents remain dirt poor. Money trumps.
"If you are a U.S. citizen, get involved. Write your congressperson and tell him or her it's time to turn copyright protections back into what they were designed to be:"
Ok while you're at it, write Kim Jong Il, and ask him to stop making nuclear weapons. Then, you can write your local Mafia, and ask them to stop extorting people and promoting the drug trade. Then write Saddam Hussein, and ask him to give himself up, so that there can be peace in Iraq. And while you're at it, why not write Bill Gates a letter, and explain to him why he should give windows a GPL licence.
Why would geeks fear winter? It's not like most of us would miss the outdoor summer sports for half the year.
Wait.. did I say that winter in Edmonton is half the year? Oh my...

Would I really have to wait weeks? ;-))
Did UNIVAC's mother need stitches?
Seriously, do we really need to anthropomorphize machines this much? It was popular to do in the fifties and sixties, but aren't we over that by now?

Are you sure they left pr0n out of the semPRON?

Easy... for a laptop, just put your PEM device near your P4 chip.
Where are you from? Any high school student should know that.
"Freedom = downloading and not paying for stuff?"
Yes. Kind of like free radio.
I'm sure your country will eventually outlaw that too.
That's because when you get to choose only between the Republicans and the Democrats, in reality, you have no choice at all.
It's about time Americans stopped calling themselves a democracy.

Feminism has become its own worst enemy.
