    Here (Eugene Oregon) we have a place called Next Step. They recycle electronic stuff.
    Usable is repaired and sold, usable parts salvaged, toxic stuff stripped out, remainder recycled.
    Look for a similar place near you.

    Exactly. You have control. I have used slack for years to run a dual homed host. Iptables, BIND and SNORT and away you go .
    It takes some set up , and some care in the set up but maintenance is nil.

    I left one ISP somewhat perplexed when he tried to convert me to PPOE. I found an ISP in Portland OR (DSL only)that will provide bridge mode and we linked up.

    You seem to have a little sympathy for Yahoo. I used to but, no longer. They did it to themselves.
    Other wise, yes , the combo of MSFT and yahoo is likely to be a "drain on resources". And it's going to be MSFT's . Oh joy Oh Joy.

    Now if MSFT would buy AOL all would be well with the world.
    Maybe they could diversify, maybe buy a airline, or Kmart ....

    MSFT blows big bucks (may even has to borrow money). Yahoo share holders get bailed out, MSFT distracted by a tarbay for years to come.
    It just doesn't get much better than this.

    I might even have to buy some Yahoo stock just to vote YES YES YES.

    When we had to watch Portland (OR) channels (the only ones) we used stacked 12 element Yagis, for 100 - 120 miles.

    And sometimes a fuzzy picture from KOMO in Seattle 250 miles. (the hill we were on helped a lot)

    Likely the same storm we had in the Willamette Valley. two Dish network dishes and 90cm for "other" came thru OK. I expected no less. The trick is to not mount them on top of the house. Dishes do not need to be high like a TV antennae. They need only a clear view of a portion of the sky
