Indeed, DRM and copyright extensions are corporate copyright holders continuous refusal to give the public their part of the copyright agreement, i.e. no fair use and eventual public domain of the material after a short period of protection.

It actually could be a fair exchange of resources instead of ads, I use some of yours when visiting your site and "consuming" your work and I give some back by doing some "work" for you. If what I provide is a reasonable use of my resources, I would have no problem with it as long as it is legal.

We should demand "recording" LEDs indicating when cell phone cameras are on, and the same for Google Glass.

Or even better, have the feature only available after the user have used a vuvuzela for 5 minutes and it must be used during the recording as well. :p

  6. Looks to me ... on Ender's Game Trailer Released · · Score: 2

Looks to me (based on this trailer alone) that the book got hammered and bashed to fit into the current Hollywood "sci-fi" form factor, lots of shiny graphics/scenery and some fractions of elements from the book (similar to I robot).

Children trained as soldiers? The film Soldier already did that very well, and I got a feeling it is closer to the book than the Ender's Game film will ever be.

Should I say calculators are useless or stupid, just because I don't need them for that use case?

Your comparison of the calculator and the Google gadget is flawed, as one is made for a specific purpose (calculator) and the other have additional benefits (which I hope work out for those in needed of them). It would be more prudent to compare the calculators additional purposes. For instance the calculator can be used as a dildo, but like the Google gadget, doing so in public will make you look like a freak.

The problem is not the gadget in itself, but the way it works and who controls the data, and how it affects everybody around the user whether they like it or not. It is an invasion of peoples lives on a massive scale.

  14. Bashing onwards on Sony DVR Useless After Rovi Stops TV Guide OnScreen · · Score: 5, Informative

Is this meant to be another bash SONY because they are "evil" "article"?

Before you head down that line, note that:

    - Rovi (corporation) used to be called Macrovision.
    - This is for a (free?) Over The Air service.
    - No link to the Rovi announcement or their reasoning.
    - Affects any device and service relying on Rovi and their data.

It seems to me this is just another move to get people onto cable where media companies can exert more control over content (and the people watching) and rake in more money.
