If the employee spends 2-3 hours on a personal project in the middle of the day, puts in 11 hours total and records 8 hours of work, not necessarily a problem. This *can* lead to other issues, like fielding an unusual amount of personal calls throughout the day.
If they are spending 20-30% of company time on a personal project (time), that is a problem. Emphasis on company time versus personal time. No matter what the scenario is, it fits when described as company vs personal. Working from home, I split company time up into 3 larger slices - mostly to fit around the morning and afternoon kid dropoff/pickup.
systemd has not taken over everything in the Linux OS yet?
Glad to see Gentoo is still in the running, if you are building a small fast lightweight OS, Gentoo is a good. I avoid using it on my desktop since recompiling X for an update is painful.....
I called out Google as eventually becoming an ISP and media provider, making your Internet provider and cable provider unneeded. One service to rule them all.
They will also become a cell provider - only primarily using WiFi. Google Fi is a step in that direction. I was surprised when they bought Motorola Mobile and then sold them, I expected them to manufacture handsets in house. I imagine they took some intellectual property and then sold it off, opting instead for other companies to compete for their business in the Nexus line.
Some bored dude/dudette from Russia that was going to lose a bet if they did not hack the DNC or RNC site.
Is World War 3 going to be started because Jimmy launched a model rocket in his backyard? Sure it landed in the middle of the Kremlin or on the White House lawn, but lets not jump to costly conclusions.
Reeks of lone wolf like Guccifer 1.0 but I guess we will see.
Where are the warnings on it you are being recorded? When was the last time you hugged a mall cop? This thing should have warnings on it you are being recorded up close and personal.
This wonderful bit of technology is one more step towards getting the next generation comfortable to being watched all the time.
And to tie it to Sandy Hook? Seriously? Just like the TSA, this is an improper response to a security problem in that context.
Couple this with the other news about the government not needing warrants for 'public' camera streams and we have a recipe for some real control of the populace.
We are sliding down that slippery slope at a good pace now. Ugh.
In my case, I am a contractor ready to bail because my government sponsor, who is in a big role in a branch of military cybersecurity, is not motivated nor interested in anything that might take effort. Gotta protect his funding line and rice bowl.......
The lack of leadership combined with the bureaucracy has made me lose any faith that things will improve. I work with some people every now and then that are awesome, dedicated and motivated, but like me, they get tired of 'the fight' and take a job outside of the.gov space, getting paid and with about 30% of the responsibility.
Terms of Service (TOS) and people agreeing to give all their info up is going to do us in, as someone mentioned above about Orwell envisioned government oppression doing it, but it is actually people *giving up freedom* that is a much more devious thing. Gradual and it feels good to have all this convenience and security...... a warm blanket that someday may smother you......
We tossed this idea around in the office before. Stuck in traffic but can't see ahead? Launch the tethered drone - just straight up and high enough to see what is ahead. Power is no problem as it is tethered, and you can get high quality video. With the right design, maybe handle speeds of > 5mph as it goes into 'kite mode'.
Side question - I have opted out since Day 1. 98% of the time when I opt out, they take me through a little side gate and I skip the scanner AND the metal detector. Have you had the same experience? I am OK with the metal detector but have not had to do it since the opt out for scanner option is there.
Sorry I have no answers for your questions, but also interested in the replies you get here.

Except maybe commissioned work?
[ **] A start job is running for kernel-4.11-release (1.2 day / 7 days)
My lurking for a decade is going to pay off? :-)

How awesome will this be when it gets hijacked for service in an IoT botnet?
What could possibly go wrong?
Yeah I used to believe in that do no evil thing - now I am off GMail etc
1984 probably still an accurate prediction, just a few decades off

They will not allow you to use your own DNS settings on your router, so they are collecting that data.
One reason why I switched to cable.
I miss the latency though..... DSL was 5ms and cable is around 20 ms in my area. Great for FPS games.
Systemd-logind must be restarted every ~1000 SSH logins to prevent a ~25s delay

I am sure putting all the eggs in one basket will be fine, in the long run
Word on the street- DefCon is cancelled

Been using Ubuntu Mate with Bluetooth for my keyboard since I got it months ago.
In other 'news' - Windows 10 can be downloaded for free.......
So I guess I am screwed. But there is hope for everyone else.
Ugh.
No mention of the great train project in California?
That will be a budget buster for sure. especially by the time all the bonds and loans are paid off......
And the Bay Bridge is falling apart!

Cool! Now, where is the link to his statement?
"The FBI should be given the method to crack iPhones" - Abraham Lincoln

Thanks
They did not 'act so fast' if they were already in the air, in an area close by...........
Meaning, they don't sit around waiting, they are already scooping up calls all the time.
Does Shodan HQ keep logs over time? :-)
Does everything really need to be connected to the Internet?
Let's through money at it, instead of fixing even the most basic compliance issues the .gov space can't seem to get.
Wish they spent the money on OPM..........
I remember when the technician in this article was being called out as paranoid and many did not believe it.
Unfortunately too true.
