  1. Does it require insane amounts of extra hardware? on Windows 7 RTM Reviewed & Benchmarked · · Score: 0

The question that I have is this - Does it require insane amounts of extra hardware to be fast and good. One huge honking problem with Vista was its huge memory requirements. I mean I did not think XP needed so much more memory than what I had before. I removed Windows ME and put XP on my desktop and it worked fine then. But Vista was soo slow, it doubled all the hardware requirements. I felt like Microsoft had a deal with RAM manufacturers or something. My question is Windows 7 a good OS only if you throw so much more extra or does it work fine with hardware you would expect on most systems ?

exactly, what the internet has done and what these assholes like Diller dont understand is that it has made delivering content to the public easy. Therefore, a lot more people can get involved in things like news, videos etc. For example earlier we used to get out news via select newspapers. Now I not only have access to many more online news sites but also blogs articles etc. Stuff are free on the internet because there are multiple versions of the same thing present everywhere. I say let them start charging. I remember at some point Yahoo had similar ideas and that did not go down too well with people. Also, even if they can somehow gather everyone together and try to go for subscription style services, this process is particularly hard on the companies who start first because people will definitely switch towards free sites in the beginning until they realize everything is pay only.

Do they offer secure access with this ?

Is there something more fundamental here? From the study, if it is true that ejaculation is better if the man finds the woman attractive and/or is highly turned on and it is more likely that the man is more turned on with a new girl (assumption ofcourse) than the same boring spouse that he sleeps with every night, does this mean that man was fundamentally a creature of instinct than commitment and that for better reproduction he should mate with more females than be married to one or something like that ?

  11. end of an era on Rapidshare Ordered To Filter Content · · Score: 0

I have used rapidshare quite a bit. I liked it because most of the stuff on there was clean. It was easy to download. There is actually a website rapidlibrary or something that you can use to search for stuff on rapidshare and you will not believe the kind of stuff thats on there and by that I mean everything you can think of, someone has uploaded it on rapidshare, especially ebooks, music and movies. I guess this means an end to the free downloading era for me. I am little skeptical about getting stuff off from torrents because of the viruses/malware either on the torrent files or on the sites that hosts these torrents. Anyway, I also know of other sites that will popup, however, usually such sites have lots of annoying flash/porn ads on it.

  12. A different solution on Where Does a Geek Find a Social Life? · · Score: 0

My solution is kinda different from most solutions that have been offered here, most of them being try to meet someone online. I think a small problem here is the fact that you are unsocial. Maybe you could change that a bit. A good way to be social could be joining some class - tennis? salsa? I dont know how old or how inclined you are to these things, but these are places where you meet other people and develop friendships and relationships outside of work. I used to go to a lot of parties right after I had submitted a paper to a conference, it took me sometime to become "normal", but then I realized, as a geek, we have the best to offer to women - we are often the most practical, pretty rational, well settled and according to latest research most loving guys. So keep this in mind and go spend some time in the regular world and you can meet other like minded people and develop a relationship if you want one.

India also has the worst terms with all of its neighbors :- China, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh. With all the force you have mentioned, the problem of illegal immigration, supplying ammo and drugs across borders is huge in India. My point is that maybe we could supply money to these forces to modernize the BSF than use satellites to track terrorist activity, because it is not unknown to us as to when and where the terrorists come from. Its just lack of resources and corruption that is creating the problem of infiltration.

You are missing out the point. The IPhones of tommorow will not be what they are today. They will boast more computing power than a multiprocessor. Well, you can always take your laptop to the lab, connect it to an available ethernet port or simply wireless and study there. You dont need a computer lab. By the way, when people get laptops, it is so that they carry them around, especially to school. Computer labs will definitely be obsolete. What instead what will remain are interfaces. I am sure at some point, Iphones will replace laptops. Then we may end up with "labs" that have only keyboards and monitors or heck places where I can display an optical keyboard to work with. Collaboration can be done with the help of video conferencing.

Not true. What you are saying is only true from the software side of things. You are assuming that fine-grained locks always cause contention. Again -> It depends on the architecture. You can have the same lock scheme perform poorly on one machine and perform amazingly good on another. Removing python GIL will definitely lead to better performance. This is a great candidate for transactional memory.
