  1. One step closer to the one-button computer! on Multimodal, Multitouch Gaming Gaining Traction · · Score: 1

So I've owned an iTouch and a Macbook pro for about a year now, and I've gotta say, I'm *very* impressed with the touch capability and quality that these have. The responsiveness of the iTouch is great, which I'm sure everyone knows, but the multi-touchpad on the macbook pro is phenomenal to me. I don't know how I ever lived without that thing. It makes scrolling down pages, 'right clicking', going back or forward between pages, and tabbing to other programs a lot faster and a lot smoother. I never thought the biggest redeeming quality of a macbook would be the touchpad, but I'm just too impressed by that.

... Maybe this multitouch, multimodal crap will make things even simpler, smoother, intuitive and faster than the current UI of a laptop or hand held device. I can do a lot more with one finger than I could before (anyone think of the 'one button' mac thing on reuters? :P ).

Not to mention, I also saw some windows laptops were coming out with multitouch pads... I'm very excited about those.

By all means, comply with his wishes, but that wasn't what I was responding to. If I recall, someone wants Google to teach mister Rupert a lesson, and "kill all links to his website so we can no longer find any of his companies online." That's a tad more extreme.

You're absolutely right; however, teaching a lesson to the old bag by killing all the links to his websites seems a bit abusive of the massive power that Google has. That could be the beginning of a new evil company. Don't worry, I have faith that Google will pull through. :)

While researches are still speculating, they believe this may be due to the average slashdotter's lack of experience.

  11. Re:Just an interesting tidbit in determining gende on How To Prove Someone Is Female? · · Score: 1

That isn't even slightly true. People's ring and their index fingers are generally the same length, and any variation has nothing to do with gender.

Hell, even if it did, it would just be due to hormones, and if you want to know what hormones were flowing around a person's body during their development, an easier method is to pull their pants down.

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/695142.stm

While it may not be true 100% of the time, this study has shown otherwise. There is a difference, and there are correlations that actually show a difference in gay and lesbian finger sizes.

Now, that's not to say that finger size is the end all way to look at gender... I just said it was an interesting tidbit. I suppose it could even be used as a factor, because it's a tad rare to have a surgery to shorten your fingers.

  15. Star Trek Online taking the right steps? on Experimental Video Game Evolves Its Own Content · · Score: 1

I think there are a few MMOs taking the right steps, and I suppose EVE has always been a good example. But the MMO that has most recently caught my eye is Star Trek Online (STO). They want to try to make space feel infinite, but with limited development time, that's impossible. They've come up with this 'procedurally' generated content thing that looks like it might do the job. I'm not sure how much you can influence the actual world, but I think the game generates planets and star systems as players 'discover' them. And I'm pretty sure they stay that way for all players. You go down, explore the planet, discover a new race (which gets put into the game's database), and influence them as you please.

The potential STO has is mind blowing; however, the game hasn't been released yet (it will be soon, I think), so I'll wait to drool over it for now.
