    Totalitarian governments could give a shit if outsiders criticize them. What they'd like to prevent (or at least make very difficult) is their own citizens doing so.

    I think it already is. At least it seems to be losing its cachet among teeners, tweeners and college-age kids. I doubt Facebook and its advertisers care much though, as "old people" are a much more lucrative potential market.

    I really don't think that's it. The more likely culprit is the fact that it's not enough to just do the task. You have to have meetings about it, endless meetings where each layer of management gets to show how indispensable it is by commenting and quibbling about every detail. You also have to complete documentation and timekeeping tasks, which usually have the sole purpose of giving upper management pretty charts and spreadsheets to look at. With all that, it's a wonder that anything ever gets done.

    Why are you laying this at the President's feet? The bill is sponsored by Susan Collins, a Republican, and Joe Lieberman, independent (and former Democrat in name only). Obama has done plenty that I disagree with, but he's not responsible for everything that's wrong in Washington.

    I haven't tried Office 2010 yet, but when I switched from Office 2003 to 2007, I learned to enjoy the 5-7 second lag when Excel or Word loads. It's kind of a forced mini-break.
