G+ is to the internet, what Yellowstone Park was to the U.S. in 1872. A beautiful landscape where people could meet, relax and enjoy the serenity.
Recently I used this example to tell friends about G+ and compared FB to an amusement park akin Disneyland where you had to pay $45 to enter the park, $5 for a coke, $15 for a picture of you and about $200 for lunch for you, your wife and 2 kids.
On the other hand, you have G+ that is not being built to hijack your information, sell you targeted items based on your 'likes and dislikes' or anything of the sort. It is truly a social network.
Whether that makes it a cathedral or a bazaar, I don't know. What I do know is that I left FB and I'm not looking back.
Social sites were called channels.. it wasn't a single entity that controlled everything, it wasn't monetized. It was called IRC.. the difference until mIRC came around was that you had to do everything through a command line.. which for the most part kept the dummies out of my social networks, +++ATH0 took care of the rest.:)

How To Hire a Hacker

Being a 'hacker' who can find solutions to problems most mortals deem impossible, I can tell you that the approach taken by the article is just plain and simply *WRONG*.
If you seriously want someone who thinks out of the box and can figure out complex problems, there really are just a few simple steps to take into consideration:
1) Realize you WILL be hiring someone smarter than you 2) Be okay with it since it will make you look smarter! 3) Allow them to do their job! Don't impose on them stupid ass schedules that require them to attend stupid ass meetings all the freaking time! Light bulb moments don't come on schedules, they come when you allow them to spend their own good time figuring out YOUR problem. 4) DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE TRY TO MICROMANAGE!!!!!! 5) Understand they are not after your job.. they just want to do THE job you hired them to do.. so chill out, give them raises and plain and simple, keep them happy!
They have been doing business pretty much the same exact way for the past 100 years, suddenly technology takes a giant leap forward and it's "OMG!?!? We don't know how to make things more profitable so let's put down those who have figured out how to make money!"
Adaptation has allowed species throughout the planet survive. In their case, I guess they're about to be extinct. Change is coming, beware!
When I first read the header I thought "oh yeah, the ethics of getting something for free and then charging for it's sale", but as I read the entire story/question, I have to agree with the majority of people; you are within your rights to charge for it.
If the average iPhone user was capable of installing their own apps, then yes, you would be in violation of the GPL regardless of how little you charge. However, this is not the case. People cannot just download your source and install it themselves. As you mentioned, there are charges involved with being an iPhone App developer and it's one thing to develop software for free, and quite another to not only develop it, but also incur extra charges for its delivery.
I have no idea who the original developer was or why he feels betrayed, but in my opinion you guys are going about it the right way.
A perfect example to use for your "re-packaging fees" would be RedHat. They've been selling Linux for quite many years. At first there weren't many improvements they included, but as the company has grown, they have contributed quite a bit for the development of not only their distribution, but Linux in general.
I'm glad to hear Australia and the UK have enough money to be throwing around for NOTHING.. I'm sure these devices are going to be as secure as Larry's database.. "you can't break it, you can't break in".. ya.. a huh..
I don't know why you guys are making such a big deal about this because "The fundamentals of our economy are strong."

Teaching it to want something is not a detriment, because then it can be taught right from wrong.
Take today's youth for example, most parents today allow their kids to do whatever, no reprimand. What are they being taught? That they can do whatever they want and there are no consequences. Why not take the basics of good and bad and teach those to a machine?

Unless someone can figure out how to make a program want something.
If you take the lower life forms into consideration, you can teach a dog to sit, lay down and roll over.. what do they want? Positive encouragement, a rub on the belly or even a treat.
But how do you teach a program to want something?
Word of caution though, don't make the mistake made in so many movies.. don't teach the program to want more information..;)
I spoke to my dad's psychic and she said that the last guy is a moron. My dad's psychic also said that she saw my post get a score of +5 Funny. I also talked to my dad's proctologist and he said the 2nd guy is an anal retentive troll.

I was thinking the same thing.. so according to MADD, it is quite OK and sensible to beat someone with a bat, shoot them, run them over and steal some cars, as long as you are sober.
Emerald City, Oz. - It was announced today that Darl McBride, President and CEO, The SCO Group has conceded his defeat regarding the Copyright Infringement case against IBM a few years ago and will file for Chapter 11 protection. Mr. McBride was quoted as saying "Chapter 11 reorganization provides the Company with an opportunity to protect its assets during this time while focusing on building our future plans."
When asked about these future plans, Mr. McBride announced his intention to sue every single internet user, based on the fact that the Internet became as popular as it did due to traffic running on products that were based on SCO intellectual property. "I personally was the creator of these tubes and filed for a patent back in 1956". Mr. McBride became irritated when this reporter informed him that the Internet did not in fact run through tubes, rather through optical lines and copper cables. "Where have you been? You must have missed my good friend Ted Stevens describing how the internet was a series of Tubes, just stick to what you know, which is... ah.. whatever it is you reporters do.."

You know.. even though due to the fact that millions of morons misuse the word Preventative, and this caused this word to get added to the Webster Dictionary with a comment of "see Preventive" doesn't mean it's a real word.. Next time think to yourself, "am I anal retentative?" and you'll figure out the right spelling of the word.. hopefully...
Try being a little more attentative in class will ya!

And while it is long winded, I think the original post just reflects what many feel but are afraid to say.
The video is extremely powerful and Rodrigo should be applauded for sacrificing his life to better maybe not only his country, but the world.

I haven't read the article, but I can almost guess what this secure XP consists of..
DOS 3.2
DosShell
And yes, I know I'm dating myself on that one, but my EDLIN is not working so I gotta go DEBUG A:\slashdot.exe.
There's absolutely NO WAY that ANYONE can hack into a US Government satellite or computer system.

Linux in 4 years will be able to be hacked by a 2 year old because security vulnerabilities are a myth.

I think the renaming of the FS is in order. After all, we don't want to be reminded of these events for as long as we use it..
I vote for OJFS since we all know OJ is innocent..
